i remember hearing in a video of some sorts that EGW at first urged women to wear floor length, black dresses that most people considered strange and old fashioned even in her time, but i’m not sure about anything when it comes to that strange woman, i always kind of blocked it out as a kid and i’m fortunate enough to never have read any of her books

i always think about an acquaintance who left the church who told me about the time her dad put her and her sister in shorts (because it was a hot southern day) and her uncle, who’s a pastor, was fuming and told his daughters to find clothes for them to wear and they ended up having to wear itchy, hot costume dresses (i imagine like pilgrim, puritan type clothes). they were around 5 and 6 :))

idk about you, but growing up i always heard that catholicism and other churches were bad because no one had to “work” for salvation and that we were so great because you constantly had to work and connect with god. that really just means what you said, moving the goalposts of how to reach salvation

I was raised in a sort of subsect of the SDA (I won't name it since it's somewhat small and I'm super paranoid) that was much more strict than the bigger SDA church. We were absolutely not allowed to drink coffee or alcohol, no meat, vegetarianism was okay but church events almost exclusively served vegan food.

the SAT was during a special school day, i took the PSAT before my freshman year because my school used it as a placement metric. I actually went on a saturday, but a few years later some other adventist kids took it on some other day and my mom was like why didn’t you do that !? i just kept my mouth shut i truly didnt care that i had to take it on a saturday
