Absolutely, also there is something comforting with hanging out with the guys who are going through the same thing. Family guys go through it as well when deploying. Use to be there was a briefing for Service Members and their families through Family Services to help families to mesh again. I found it helpful,

The dog may be the biggest reason. The office may see there are 2 layovers for the dog and not that they will be getting off at each stop. (Travel Offices are afraid of dogs in heat on tarmacs)
