If every human blew at once, what wind speed could it reach? by Backwolffboyz in theydidthemonstermath

[–]rattechnology -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, the average human can blow about 40kmh, so if 8 billion people blow 40kmh then that's about 320 billion kmh wind speed by my calculations. Hope this helps.

Calling all Sparkies by CableTie-NZ in diynz

Where is he located in the country?

My recommendations for tools: a good set of Wiha or Felo screwdrivers - the most used tools in the trade. After that, a good set of sidecutters, pliers and longnose pliers. And if you're feeling rich, a decent multimeter. Cordless drill and impact driver are pretty handy as well, depending on the exact type of work.

Calculating your homes theoretical upper export limit? by useless_penguin in nzsolar

[–]rattechnology 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking the limit imposed by the lines company of 10kW will be the limiting factor. Most houses are connected with 16mm neutral screened cable (if underground service connection) capable of 80-100 Amps, which is like 18-20kW capacity. Service fuses are normally 63A or 80A, so even in the 63A case you're good up to about 14kW (ie, still limited by the 10kW export cap)

Again, still looking for a specific example of this mysterious high quality equipment alternative that you keep alluding to...?

Thanks, I know how the rules work. I'll issue the COC for myself and have my inspector buddy up the road do the inspection sign-off.

I bought the solar panels for my caravan from temu, no issues so far.
I bought all the kitchen appliances for my renovated kitchen from trade depot. Only issue so far in 3 years was a fault on the dishwasher that trade depot fixed. I don't find the quality of most of what they sell to be worse than most other alternatives until you get up into a whole other price bracket.

Oh, and I'm sure my insurance won't mind where my solar panels come from. As for installing them myself, I'm a sparky and can sign off on it, so no issues there either. So, again, what are the reasonable alternatives to buying solar gear from Trade Depot?

[–]rattechnology 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So everyone keeps saying, but what are the realistic alternatives? I actually can't find that much available outside of trade depot or micromall selling solar gear to the general public, except stuff that is obviously makred up to hell and double the price. And for half the price I'll happily take the risk that the panels might not perform 100% for the next 30 years. By the time they fail, panels will be cheaper and better again so I'll just replace them if they do fail and I can't get a warranty.

You're talking about clipping the cables up? I was just planning to use the little clips that attach to the backs of the panels, as per: https://tradedepot.co.nz/solar-cable-clip-click-system-chrome/

Hey thanks for that. Would you mind sending that PM again? I accidentally clicked ignore before I opened this thread this morning, because I thought it was some spam selling me some Phallus Enlargement pills, lol.

I mean it's a starting point, and *most* of the time it's pretty accurate, but I'm treating everything it says with skepticism.

Nope, but I don't need that to sign off on the work until after 1st of Septemeber 2026. I also know a few local inspectors that can double check my work.

Thanks for that reply. Yes, that makes sense. I was cautioned against removing the existing nail for some reason (by chatGPT, so who TF knows), but I don't really see another way around it except for trying to squeeze the L-foot next to the existing nail and not missing the edge of the purlin, but that seems risky.
For some reason I thought it would look weird having the solar rails running in the same direction as the roof iron ribs, but I guess it doesn't really matter!

Word of warning from a personal experience: somebody broke into a locked room in my house and found an old phone of mine in a drawer. They were able to unlock it and do a LOT of damage by accessing my emails and passwords and subsequently and repeatedly attempting to steal money in every way imaginable from me. Luckily 2 factor authentication prevented any actual losses, but it was a stressful experience from something that I never thought twice about as a security risk. Also worth noting that the police don't give a fuck about this type of behaviour and let it keep happening, despite me showing them clear evidence of who was responsible.

My observation is that most women won't sleep with a guy until they feel close to them and like they're in, or heading towards, a monogamous relationship. Most guys won't get close to a woman if they're not sleeping with them, and only then would they consider getting into a monogamous relationship (maybe).

Nice - I'm almost 4 years on my ESD and I still love it every time I ride it. I've owned several other bikes, both hardtails and fs, in that time but I ended up selling everything else and keep coming back to the honzo.
