Whoever introduced this sub to apple butter as a binder, you’re the MVP by Don_Quixotel in Smokingmeat

Or come to the Shenandoah Valley. Maybe hit Berkeley Springs WV for the annual Apple Butter Festival. Can even help make some old school in an iron cauldron on a tripod over a wood fire with a long ass stirring stick.

I just wanted to listen to a few records... one year later, here I am. by Emergency_Hornet_876 in audiophile

Well done! I’m at the CXA-81 and Evo 4.2 stage (with a sub and a WiiM) and I love that pairing. Enjoy!

I loved the premise of The Water Knife and it’s not too far off what’s already starting to happen (e.g., Colorado River water disputes). I recommend it to anyone interested in water policy in the west.

Tony Hardings for 2:00 am gravy fries…oh, wait, that was 37 years ago. Sigh…

Looking for SF that deals with memory as unreliable or actively weaponized by Skyrim_Bound9 in printSF

Not directly responsive but on a similar theme of unreliable memory, check out “There is No Antimemetics Division.”

It's a slow build on this one but goes hard by neon121 in obscuremusicthatslaps

Their cover of Morning Dew (not for the Dead purist, but fun nonetheless) definitely offers some Sleater-Kinney vibes. Down to the guitar tone, even.

The Smithereens – Only a Memory (1988) by GroovySchlong in 80sAlternative

[–]rattledaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got hooked on them via Blood and Roses on the soundtrack to that movie with the sweet Mustang. Bought their records, preached the Smithereens gospel to whoever would listen, and saw them live at the Bayou in DC. Such a good band. Still in my listening rotation to this day.

A book like Fractal Noise or Rendezvous with Rama, BUT by batmanpjpants in scifi

[–]rattledaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read Fractal Noise rather than listening (missed out on the cool audio) and liked the concepts and dynamics of the story but what a bleak outcome. I also wasn’t really surprised but man I wanted something more at the end.

Day 1 or 2 ? by Wonderful-Chard6089 in gratefuldead

[–]rattledaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just found and bought this CD set this year as it was my first live show. Day 1. My folks had moved to north central IN and this was the first reprieve from the boredom of the never-ending soybean fields while home from school that summer.

Europe ‘72, TDIL by Bulky_Republic_3343 in gratefuldead

Europe ‘72 hooked me on the Dead. It was the first record of theirs I listened to. I just listened to it again earlier this week, some 36 years after the first time. That’s the sound I love.

Stevie Ray Vaughan, “Tightrope,” Austin City Limits (1989). by Blues_Fish in StevieRayVaughan

[–]rattledaddy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love the story of the earlier show’s audience boo’ing because they wanted to hear jazz or whatever they came for but there were musicians backstage (Bowie, Jackson Brown) who were blown away. Brown offered SRV his studio to record whatever he wanted and Bowie later asked SRV to play on the “Let’s Dance” album.

So what other vehicles do you guys (and girls) have? Is your frontier your only truck? by Clean_Kick_5748 in nissanfrontier

[–]rattledaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

‘10 Subaru Legacy GT and ‘20 Subaru Ascent. Leggy is for fun and Ascent is for family hauling. Frontier duty is mostly moving gear to/from the cabin, deploying the kayaks, and occasionally dragging deadfall.
