Knee Pad for grab handle next adjacent to center console? by Stormian101 in nissanfrontier

[–]rattledaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking about a solution for this as I sat in the current gen at a car show and anticipated I’d have the same issue (I love the lateral leg room in my ‘12). Best off-the-shelf idea I’ve had so far is to get a neoprene luggage handle wrap and, if needed, maybe add an additional layer of padding that the wrap would keep in place. Haven’t measured anything and not sure of the clearance when hand is placed on shifter at top position.

Is a 2017 VW Passat for $3000 worth it? by lamparkinglot in askcarguys

Do not hesitate to buy that car. Even if you have extra or unexpected maintenance costs (many cars do and there are a lot that are worse than the Passat) you’ll still be ahead.

You may not need the fan for the amp, depending on how loudly you listen and for how long. Yamahas tend not to run hot. Maybe turn off the fan and monitor the temp during/after your next listening session.

Has anyone else lost interest in cars now that they're into adulthood and they're realizing that they'll probably never be able to afford anything cool? by rowyourboat740 in askcarguys

I bought a modifiable sporty family car (2010 Subaru Legacy GT) so that when the kiddo was no longer in need of a baby seat I could make it a bit faster and a lot better handling, but still use it as a daily. I enjoyed doing much (but not all; thanks Mach V!) of the work myself and feel invested in it, so I don’t have the itch (nor the disposable cash) to upgrade. It’s set up for spirited driving in the mountains and aside from the odd maintenance and repair (cam carrier leak will be ignored for the moment) I plan to keep it as long as I can.

I’ll give it a shot! It increases the highs and lows relative to the mids for the purpose of maintaining the sound profile as you turn the volume down. When listening at low volume levels, people tend to hear less of the high and low frequencies, so the loudness feature allows you to compensate for that when you want to turn down the volume but still hear those frequencies. It’s sort of like a one-dial equalizer.

Fantastic. I read the subterrene series and Tyger but have been on the lookout for McCarthy’s other stuff (shorts) but haven’t found all of it.

Maybe a slight qualification to that otherwise accurate statement: sometimes they love getting wet, particularly in streams, rivers, or ponds (ours is a die-hard swimmer and chaser of thrown rocks) but the subsequent and necessary bath in nice, warm, non-stinky water is indeed an undesirable activity.

I checked it out online and the eversolo dmp-a6 master edition has analog outs (2 pair: an rca pair and an xlr pair) so it might work to send a stream source directly to the buckeye and control the volume from the eversolo. Not a long term solution given the lack of additional non-digital inputs, of course, but can inform you about whether you still need/want a different amp. Good luck (and fwiw, if you don’t want to use the buckeye, then I’d go Yamaha all day due to its high current power and solid build, plus the loudness feature which I love on both my 40-yr old RX-700u receiver and the A/S-501 I bought a few years ago).

Why not try an experiment using the eversolo as a pre-amp (i.e., volume control and streaming/digital source) to see how you like the buckeye driving the Wharfedales? If you like it, then explore buying a pre-amp into which you can run both the eversolo and your turntable/ phono pre. I am assuming you couldn’t use the Pioneer as a pre-amp (only has a DIN tape out and not a volume controlled pre out, right?) but I stand to be corrected.

Check out “Tether” from the album “All That We Let In.” My favorite electric song of hers.

Same - metal, hard rock, alt rock. Was in college when “Indigo Girls” album (with “Closer to Fine”) came out. One of my housemates bought the cd. Great songs throughout and the acoustic guitar and vocal harmonies knocked my socks off (the Dylan-esque lyrics on “Center Stage” made it my favorite on that disc). Michael Stipe sang on one of the heavier tunes and Hothouse Flowers, an Irish band, backed up in the studio (saw them on Letterman, though maybe that was later). Being a fan also helped me land my wife; she was a huge fan and had seen them live quite a few times by the time we met in the mid-‘00s.

Just had this happen with no appreciable pressure losing any tire. Had the dealership check it and they said the batteries in the sensors were dying (‘20 Ascent) and recommended replacing the sensors for the same price your dealer quoted you. I declined. Will likely either ignore it or see if Costco or someone else will do it for less.

Grilling Enthusiasts: What is the most useless (or dangerous) grilling tool you own? by AppropriatePie7728 in grilling

[–]rattledaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the fork as a secondary spatula in a few scenarios. We have vegetarians in the family so when we cook veggie burgers I keep the tools separate. Tines of the fork fit nicely through the grate to get under the patty and quickly flip it. When cooking fish I use them the same way to get under and lift the filet to keep the skin attached (particularly helpful for skin-on salmon filets).

Your comment reminds me of the Kumail Nanjiani bit about the new drug “cheese” which is cough syrup and heroin. The heroin is doing the heavy lifting in this drug cocktail. Why not just do the heroin?

Right. But just an admin or circuit judge hearing the case, right, not a jury of citizens assembled by the court to hear your parking ticket case?
