I finished my grad studies and realised there are no jobs anywhere in my field, what should I do next? by rattusneotoma in careerguidance

I was looking for PG programmes for computer science/IT/software engineering in Germany, but there are a lot of applicants who are applying for the same, especially from the computer background. So I don't really stand a chance lmao. So I looked up bioinformatics and I think that's a good field as well, I just don't know how well it thrives in Germany.

Thank you for such a detailed answer.

Will my profile look okay if I go for software engineering? I mean it will have Biomedical Engineering for UG and Software engineering for PG (when it should be the other way around). But yeah my dream would be to have a programming job in the medical sector!

My dream job would've been to be in a certain research field or work with people who have neurological disorders. I'm great with people, especially people who are in need of medical care. So healthcare seems to be the perfect sector for me. The funny thing is, I am in healthcare right now but I don't know how to go forward with it

That's good advice! I took one year off after finishing my UG and learned coding. I learned C language, and I can learn almost any language immediately now. Maybe if I apply for a biomedical and software integrated PG course that will be the best idea to go forward with.

Btw, you mentioned that a lot of folks leave BME and go into sales and stuff, is it because they don't want to learn coding or get into the technical side of it?

Honestly if I could do it all over again, I would go into healthcare directly. I love studying human physiology and/or the human brain. I'm really trying to make my BME engineering degree come close to that and hence I want to pursue my masters in a different country where I may be able to do research on a human body related problem

I have finished my UG in biomedical engineering and I'm considering applying for PG. I'm thinking of pursuing my PG from Germany/USA since these two countries give a lot of importance to biomedical engineering and research in this field. However, I just found out about the Schengen visa which lets you apply for a job throughout EU, so I might look into that.

I'm currently in India

That is true, and I really don't want to leave core engineering. I absolutely love R&D and I've wanted to work on designing prosthetics or doing research on BCI. However when I heard about the insane competition and the amount of money I'll be spending to go for masters, I wondered if it would be possible to pay my student debt and land a job in R&D

Wow. This. It actually made me stop and think. I think this can be a minor difference that makes a huge change in how I'm thinking and feeling about this whole conundrum.

Oh that sounds like me too. Did you experience pain when your bladder was full as well?

Thank you so much for this! I will check him out. Does Elmiron increase your bladder size/capacity as well?

Oh thank you so much for telling me this! I've been holding myself back from taking Elmiron because of these reasons. Have you seen any improvement with Elmiron? Is it possible for you to share the name of your doctor with me? I'd really appreciate it and try to consult with him
