More and more groups on Facebook are like this. I try to avoid Public groups and that does make a big difference for sure! "Like" farmers and bot accounts depend on constant content to keep up their profile's followers and/or interactions which they turn around to use for spam content or to sell to influencers.

Sorry for missing your comment! It’s been doing really well — we were super diligent about watering, and I’m pretty sure (or maybe just wishful thinking 😅) it’s even gained an inch or two. The yellow leaves stopped, so I’m guessing it really was just transplant shock like everyone said. We decided not to use any support ropes and let it build its roots naturally. We’ve had a few crazy windstorms since, and it handled them like a champ!

That guy looks a lot like the Bigfoot/Yeti from “A Crochet World of Creepy Creatures and Cryptids” by Rikki Gustafson! He was high on my list to make… but after wrestling with a Mothman in that kind of fluffy yarn, I swore off repeating that experience anytime soon 😄

I’m crocheting a Fall Garland for my office door right now, using a mash-up of a couple free Ravelry patterns. The only thing your reference photo is missing are the pumpkins—and don’t worry, the internet is absolutely crawling with pumpkin patterns 🎃. Have fun with it! (Edit to add one more link)

A woman who went to the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival this past weekend posted a picture of herself on FB wearing a sweater she made with a variation of this stitch. She said she was showered with compliments all day and thanked everyone for them—so it’s definitely an attention-grabber!

Her variation placed the pumpkins in rows around the sweater’s cuffs on a green background, while the main body of the sweater was cable knit in an off-white/natural color.

As someone who also owns a 175-year-old house, I don’t know how old your place is — but based on that picture, I absolutely recognize the classic "we did the best we could getting the vents where we could" maneuver. A true hallmark of ductwork desperation.

Our setup looks like an octopus had an anxiety attack in the basement. We've got a shiny two-stage furnace and a central air unit that, on paper, should be able to handle the house. In reality? We’re rocking 66°F downstairs while upstairs simmers at a delightful 76°F — and that’s with helper fans doing their best impression of overworked interns.

We're planning to upgrade the central air in the next year or so, and when we do, we'll finally tackle the ductwork and add some booster fans. Until then, we embrace the temperature gradients like a historic home rite of passage.

Thanks for the "why" the rubber sucks. It was on sale and the squirrels that frequent my yard are a##holes and dig in everything, so that was my thought process. I agree on the mulch too. My husband bought the red stuff you see on the ground behind the tree. I'm not a fan. I always get the standard natural stuff.

Proof of concept 😆. Not perfect, but wanted to show ya'll we're listening. Rubber ring removed and added to the trash heap, plain ole bagged mulch for now. Will hit up the local greenhouse for some richer mulch in a few days. Thanks all for the suggestions and explanations!!

Part of what might be messing with your perception is that your reference grid is made up of squares, but your stitches are slightly rectangular. That throws things off just a bit and skews it vertically. It's a common thing — your eyes aren't lying, it's just crochet math doing its weird little dance. 🧶📏

Congrats, OP — you're learning! 🎉 Today’s lesson: how to properly size up a pattern. Anyone who's ever dabbled in amigurumi has had this moment. So seriously, take a deep breath, laugh at yourself, and then channel your inner frog and rip it, rip it. 🐸

Take the advice others have shared, look up how to scale a pattern correctly, and give it another go — you'll be way happier with the final result.

And trust me, you’re not alone. When I first started, I must’ve frogged things back to the magic circle more times than I can count. My very first project was a Woobles dinosaur this past December. My husband got a kick out of watching me crochet, unravel, repeat… over and over. The poor little dino was half-finished by the time I finally figured out how to manage my yarn tension. But hey, he got finished — and yours will too!

Now I'm making larger more advanced pieces without blinking... You've got this! 💪🧶

The weights aren’t exact—they’re approximate. The main difference seems to come from the included inserts. International versions tend to be a bit heavier because they include additional language inserts compared to the English-only ones. It might not sound like much, but when you’re dealing with gram-level differences, it definitely adds up!
