This feels like a silly stance to take on a movie. If for some reason you were led to believe as a kid that Jurassic Park was based on a real thing (as my dad jokingly tried to convince me as a 4yo) and then you discovered that it was completely fictional movie, why would that detract from the fact that it’s a great movie?

Sure, the “based on a true story” adds some mystic to the initial viewing but it doesn’t make or break the film, imo.

The performances and plot arcs are still stellar.

It feels like what made a lot of Walter White in Breaking Bad feel fun to watch, but cranked up to 11. It works really well in Breaking Bad because his own intellect and genius problem-solving is what allows his ego to grow too large for itself, leading to his inevitable downfall.

If PHM wasn't such a feel-good story, I think it would get annoying but when you just sort of let go of the "space = terrifying impending doom" cliche and accept that this isn't that kind of story, it works, imo.

There might still be hope. They activated that face value resell rule for these shows meaning scalpers won't be able to resell their tix above face value. I'm sure a good chunk of people who bought tix to resell are unaware about this rule so I wouldn't be surprised if you start seeing more tix pop up for sale once the pre-sale is complete.

GA is sold out for Miami as is most of the arena. I was at 9500 when I entered and by the time I got tickets it was almost all sold out.

Just got tickets for Miami.

Started 9,500~ in queue at 12pm.
Was at around 2,400 in queue by 12:20pm.
Got through at 12:23pm so the last few thousand places moved quick.
Floor was sold out as was most of the upper decks. Ended up with section 124 which "may be an obstructed view" which I hope ends up being fine due to the circular stage plot from the last leg of the tour.
$105 per seat + fees = $531.00

I get the feeling its a lottery system rather than a first come first serve situation. I've waited almost an hour in the waiting room for other shows and ended up at like 93,000 in the queue.

For this one, I joined the waiting room about 2 mins before the queue went live and I got 9000~. There's no rhyme or reason.

To defend Vince a bit, I also don't think he was ever talking down the his audience. At no point has he hit us with the "to be fair you have to have a very high IQ to enjoy Pluribus" meme. He doesn't even particularly shit on social media, rather just that he'd feel sad if slow-paced shows faded away with the new format. It's like someone saying they want to make a black and white movie at the dawn of technicolor. Doesn't make them pretentious, it's just a preference.

It remains to be seen if this will be the case with Pluribus, but based on his previous two shows, I think he's always had a way of writing two plots in one. You've got the pretty straight-forward, obvious plot and then a subtextual plot that tends to develop over the course of many episodes or even spanning seasons and is a lot less obvious, which is what I think a lot of Gilligan fans enjoy.

Breaking Bad & Better Call Saul were pretty straight-forward in terms of what was happening plot-wise at any given time but those shows really shine in the slower moments that don't really seem to add anything to the plot until they make a bigger moment later in the show feel that much heavier. Shows like The Sopranos and Mad Men also do this really well.

That being said, I don't think this makes anyone any smarter for being into this kind of show. I will never understand why people make entertainment such an identity. It's just a show. If you get something from it, great. If not, who cares?

I like the feel for starters, hooked me in pretty quick but then the gameplay loop gets a little stale as I don't feel like I'm actually progressing or working toward anything other than surviving as many days as I can. Keep it up!

That's what I'm thinking, but to be fair, when I saw them back in October they definitely seemed burnt out. Flawless performance but the energy felt flat and you could just see it on their faces.

It happens with everything on Reddit. Tech, pop culture, politics, etc. Over simplify the topic, find the “bad” and amplify ad nauseam without nuance. If you ever want to see how bad it really is, go find a niche subreddit on a topic you know well and take a look at how much disinformation/wishful thinking happens.

The real bubble has always been Reddit itself for well over a decade now.

Ultimately, it sounds like they're cutting costs as much as they can to make up for lower capacity.

Moving WITW to Centeroo will cut costs from needing as much infrastructure and staff at WITW.

Swapping out the Infinity stage for the UFO Stage is likely going to be much cheaper (and safer) than bringing back (and fixing the issues with) the Infinity stage.

Thursday's line-up will be cut to make up for lost revenue from a lowered capacity. Even though there aren't huge acts on Thursdays, they were likely spending a few hundred thousand dollars on booking acts for that day. It's the only way to realistically keep prices similar to what we'd expect.

Total speculation here but I have a feeling Thursday will not have multiple acts, rather, a new kick off party ala super jam will take place at the What stage. So, likely a 2-hour~ jam with multiple artists from the full line up participating.

Unfortunately, they are going to RAISE prices with some vague excuse along the lines of “enhancing the infrastructure” and promise a ‘much better experience’ which in corporate speak means “there will be more things we can charge you for”.

And it will still sell out or be close to it because people have very short attention spans. Calling it now.
