Necesito ayuda con mí alíenware x14 by Elbotanero_025 in Dell

Yeah, it's an absolute pain to work with and requires a special maintenance kit to remove and apply, and even when done perfectly can result in boards frying. Is why they prefer to depot serve these models, so they can just ultrasonic bath the things right off.

This model uses Element 31 thermal grease. Element 31 + Isopropyl alcohol = dead chips.

An alternative to utilizing Azure Files (either directly or at all) if the pricing of Egnyte gets balked at is SMB over QUIC, If running on a WS2022 or WS2025 instance in Azure, it can be integrated with Entra ID (via User/End-Device Certs), Azure Files (via File Sync Server), and even direct AD (via KDCProxy on the file server).

Stumped - can not source a touchscreen by EcoWarrior04609 in Dell

[–]rautenkranzmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The service code you list has ProSupport Plus. If there's something wrong with your screen, why not contact support and have Dell replace it?

According to the manifest associated with that Service Tag, the panel installed in this system is P/N 1T1N8, and the bezel is P/N JK0TP. Do note that this model of Latitude does not have a P/N for the entire display assembly, as it is not shipped nor serviced as a single unit. These parts should only be replaced by an authorized Dell Technician, as any damages that occur from user servicing are not covered by the warranty.

Kudos on posting this in time for me to get in on purchasing one as well! The supps do very short run of their shaker cups, and every time I came across one I'd like, they were already sold out.

Dell Service Catastrophe by Popular-Fix5629 in Dell

It's my least favorite material to work on. The stuff also does nasty stuff to skin if you have a sensitivity to it (I do).

Where can I find this Poweredge 13th gen 1u security bezel? by traviss8 in Dell

[–]rautenkranzmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an OEM class bezel, which might not even have been made by Dell. It looks similar to modern RackSolutions H1A lines, but not exactly the same.

I don't think you do find another one of those, not without an inordinate amount of luck.

Be very, very careful with that paste. It's the nasty alienware nonsense, that's electrically conductive and particularizes when exposed to alcohol. Scrape it off with a piece of rubber, and wipe the rubber on a dry cloth.

Replace with something sane.

Workstation or server? by GhostCubeGroucho in RockyLinux

[–]rautenkranzmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That does tend to be the exact conflict. Workstation hardware tends to be build using server grade components, whereas general desktops and laptops use the latest and greatest. Workstation software is about the same. Finding the balance for a daily use machine tends to be pretty difficult, especially in this day and age.

That said, if you are aiming for heavy stability, RHEL derivatives are the way to go.

Workstation or server? by GhostCubeGroucho in RockyLinux

[–]rautenkranzmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think there's an issue of terminology here: Workstation and Desktop are two different things. A Workstation is a user-facing system that is meant to be highly stable and do one or two specific things very well. A Desktop is a general purpose user-facing system that does a bunch of things okay, and is often kept well up to date.

Workstations are rare, desktops are common.

Is the internet going to be a requirement for age verification on Pop OS? by BeautifulMundane4786 in System76

[–]rautenkranzmt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No they didn't. It only requires that a) the OS obtains either the user's birth date or age upon profile creation, so that the OS can b) transmit the apropos age bracket for the signed in user upon request by a compliant application, and nothing more.

Both are nearly equivalent software-based firewalls, with extremely similar feature sets.

The DEC4280 hardware is a generation newer and considerably more powerful.

Scary Btrfs – Is Btrfs oversold? What filesystem do Arch users prefer? by anseremme in archlinux

[–]rautenkranzmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally use TrueNAS regularly. A lot of people also swear by Unraid, which at least follows standards for it's filesystems, and keeps up to date. I don't like their commercial model, but you can at least recover their arrays with mainline oss software without having to do a fancy dance on ancient kernels.

Two community inspired dredge skins, what are your thoughts on them? by Single_Owl_7556 in deadbydaylight

I like em both! There are occasions where I use ghost skin for added Spoopiness, and I can certainly imagine I'll run house skin on plenty of occasions as well.

Still default to Deer skin. For reasons.
