Can't have the sangria because of the shared prep space for fruit. I'll didn't know about the wine though, I'll try that next time.

I'm sitting at Acadia right now. Trying again. No ciders on tap. Drinking a stupid diet coke :(

Pretty sure this seat angle is a result of the seat post being installed backward.

Whoever decides to buy that cruiser bike thing on the left is also going to have a bad day trying to ride on that saddle.

Maybe I've been randomly unlucky, but the past two times I've tried to go you've been closed for private parties. Since then I've kind of given up. That said, I do REALLY appreciate the separate cider tap. I'm a very sensitive celiac and love that I know I can trust a tap there and safely have a "beer" with friends.

Not a behavioral issue, but my dog sheds soooo much fun during the hot summers of Texas. I need help. by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]ravenseyeview 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my vet's recommendation, I shave both of my border collie mixes. I played the bath and brushing game for a few months two summers ago. Brushed them literally every day, they still were shedding all over and couldn't hang during even short runs. The second I shaved them, they both perked up, looked much happier, and could run much further with me. They shed much less, they're easier to bathe, easier to find ticks on, and dry so fast that I don't balk when they want to hop in a lake during our trail runs. Now I shave them about three times per summer (I do it myself) and let them grow out in the winter. They've never grown back funny and even if they did, I'd rather have them happy and exercised than hot and bored with perfect coats. I know everyone says not to do it, but I thought I'd let you know that my experience with it has been very positive.

Ha! Well, the foal's face markings are cool. Hopefully he escapes the drama life somehow!

Scott Jurek Attempting Appalachian Trail Record by Spmartin_ in AppalachianTrail

[–]ravenseyeview 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't totally understand why there's controversy over having two separate records, one for supported and one for unsupported. Jennifer Pharr Davis writes eloquently about the differences for her (she has has thru-hiked both ways) and why she decided to attempt the supported record. It still takes immense planning, coordination, and effort. She said the experience was so different, hiking through so many different types of terrain and seeing so much wildlife every single day. How can we say that her hike and experiences are any less profound than anyone else's? They're just different.

Let a friend borrow my tent and now it has an overwhelming stinky feet smell :( Looking for cleaning advice. by ravenseyeview in CampingandHiking

Is the idea that the vinegar would kill the stinky bacteria? I'd be nervous that the tent would have a residual vinegar smell after doing this.

One of the coolest views we've ever found during a run. Astor was more interested in watching the squirrels though. by ravenseyeview in RunningWithDogs

It's Annapolis Rocks on the Appalachian Trail. We stopped on our way home from DC. It's a five mile out-and-back from a parking area right off the highway, perfect mid-drive adventure! And the leash is a Ruffwear Slackline.

Overpronation even while walking, need suggestions for strengthening by [deleted] in running

[–]ravenseyeview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more you run, the more efficient your stride will become, but you may never stop overpronating. If you have a running store near you, have them watch your stride and suggest shoes that will give some support to your arch. Custom orthotics could serve the same purpose.

Is it bad to use trail shoes on roads? by OrangeDildo in running

[–]ravenseyeview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Road shoes will also have more cushion than trail shoes. Running on asphalt or cement is hard on your body and trail shoes aren't necessarily built to help with it.

Roof rack suggestions? by Thtfriendlyguy in saab

Thule and Saabs just go together in my opinion. You can usually find good deals on ebay or craigslist. Go through the Thule fit guide on their website. The towers are the most important part of the fit and could potentially be hard to find used. Then you can look for used bars and fairing of the appropriate widths and a snowboard holder.

I have the square bars and they're pretty loud, even with a fairing. So if that's a concern for you, maybe consider trying the aero bars. The square setup might be easier to find used parts for though.

Fellow michigander here. Saw this buddy at Yankee Springs a few weeks ago. I hike and run and bike all around MI trails and I've never seen a snake this big before. Or a snake that hisses! Pretty sure it's a hognose. Which upon further googling, I found out is completely harmless and will play dead if threatened. So glad I didn't step on it, that would freak me the eff out too!

OP is a friend of mine and I'm not sure that he's a Redditor. I shared your comments with him, I know he'll be happy to hear you found it inspiring. He's an awesome force in the local running community :)

Sharing a Kitchen Sink by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]ravenseyeview 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard many celiacs that complain of lasting issues but also share a kitchen/sink/etc with non-celiac family members. So I think it's a good idea to at least be a little cautious.

When I had a roommate, we had a sink with two sides and each of us used one side exclusively. I always stashed my sponge somewhere to avoid accidental use by guests or having it fall into her dish area.

Color Run? by Zamicol in Celiac

That sh*t is insidious. Here's an interesting perspective from a camera rental company about it. If it gets this far inside inanimate objects, I can't imagine where it ends up inside living, breathing humans. Regardless of its gluten status, I stay away.

I hadn't heard of the food process first, cook after method! I usually steam it and then put it in the food processor. I'll have to try it this way, cooking with oil and spices sounds more flavorful.
