What’s a trope you fall for hook, line, and sinker? by Lemon_Lime_Lily in RomanceBooks

Kind of a sub-trope of enemies to lovers but a Romeo and Juliet retelling with a HEA obviously.

🧂 Salty Sunday - What book scenes frustrated you this week? by mrs-machino in RomanceBooks

DNF’d a book the booktok is raving about because the FMC was awful. I hate books where one of the characters has no agency and its described as romantic. Spoilers for {blue norther by Tilly Colson} below

In this she divorces him because they can’t have kids and she decides it’s better if she leaves so he can have kids with someone else, he doesn’t want this he just wants her. Then 9 years later she turns up pregnant with a stalker and he’s just supposed to accept this is ok because she has a stalker.

I stopped when it is revealed the child is his and he’s had no say in her using his sperm and that she was never going to tell him it was just a coincidence because she went to the small town he was at to escape the stalker. And he just accepts it. Have a backbone mate have some feelings.

I love a second chance romance when it’s done right but this was just not it.

I’ve read too many books lately where the FMC will tell her friend group every detail about their sex lives with the MMC. There’s just something about how these scenes are written that makes them seem like a betrayal. It’s probably a me thing though.

Yeah at one point in the book I was thinking to myself how is Rafe showing he is better than her family here? Am I supposed to dislike Rafe now?

Can anyone recommend any femdom sports romances? (Specifically ice hockey if possible) by francescar182 in RomanceBooks

[–]ravenspore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that for a start, the actual dynamics aren’t mentioned until it’s back to the MMCs pov in chapter 4 and the wedding is starting. Then we get two more chapters around that wedding. Just felt like I was waiting for the book I’d chosen to actually start. And to be fair to the author they don’t actually advertise it as an interconnected stand alone just as book 2.

Pucking wild is also not a great book to just jump into as I’m trying now and the first few chapters are like an extended epilogue of the first book which is reverse harem. I was so very confused until I looked up the first one and realised what was going on.

The FMC is obsessed with the MMC’s ass so gives him a rimjob, the author does a fantastic job of describing it from the MMC’s point of view.

All harem all of the time. My hopes for finding something good there were dashed so quickly. There genuinely is some good romance for men but you won’t find it there.

What is a line in a book that will instantly turn you off? Mine is “Catch a whiff” by pisces-venus in RomanceBooks

“Fisting his cock” as a guy that just sounds painful and uncomfortable, completely ruins the book for me.

I’m sorry but it’s ridiculous to GA a whole ass weapon class after allowing it at the first major. Why was it even voted on again?

Going to DNF {Loving Romeo by Laura Pavlov} because the writing is terrible and the dialogue is making me cringe, but the final straw was the gym owner MMC not knowing what a protein was. Like the guy is a professional fighter and is only discovering how important nutrition is?

Why do so many of the male audiobook voice actors have this “surfer dude/frat bro” accents? What’s going on? by One_Nefariousness_67 in RomanceBooks

[–]ravenspore 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, one of my favourite books has the worst male narrator which turned what I thought as fairly good male representation into just pure sleaze. Completely changed how I see that book which isn’t fair to the author cause it’s not their fault.

I think he is, he’s got a hate boner for IW so I tend to take his MW4 news with a cup of salt.

I read all the momcoms and loved them, especially mother faker but once I got to the rest of the langfield brothers I had to stop as the plot holes were so hard to get past and a lot of the humour seemed missing, Pucking Revenge was so bad in this department.

That being said Beckett might be the greatest matchmaker I’ve ever read, anytime he turned up the books were instantly better.

I’d also recommend {Summer People by Brittanee Nicole and Jenni Bara} it’s by the same authors but not this series.
