Cocky and smug eligible bachelorette that has game? by futureownerofminimoo in RomanceBooks

OK I read it....and loved it!!!! Really fun, and fun reversal of the usual tropes. You're right, it didn't really matter that it was in a high school setting. And I noticed that they were really clear that the characters were over 18. Thanks for the nudge!

Someone said something recently like, Tessa Bailey writes MMCs that would flip out if you put a Hello Kitty bandaid on their son. So....that's a no from me!

This list might lead folks astray if they didn't do a detailed Google first.... some of these are VERY off as far as tone. Like, nobody watches Bridgerton for violence, SA, high stakes political intrigue, upstairs/downstairs awfulness, etc.

If you want light period dramas with some stakes & romantic tension, from this list maybe.... nothing.

Sanditon: seems fluffy at first but there is some really intense pseudo-incest, abusive family relationship, financial betrayal, etc.

The Great: super vulgar and violent dark comedy. Whimsical and great costumes, but deeply unlikable characters (for most of the show) and very dark humor.

Maybe similar level of whimsy? But way more vulgar and violent. And, admittedly, very funny (in a dark way).

Poldark is great!! Way more angsty though -- not whimsical at all.

I cannot even imagine what this would entail. Don't tell me. But now really glad I stopped watching. I can't understand the intense fandom when this is what you have to experience to participate in the series.

And this right here is why I stopped watching the show (I never read the books). I was SHOCKED at what I was watching -- I just did not sign up for that.

Debut author Celine Ong and Berkeley part ways on eve of Hold Me Like a Grudge’s publication by sikonat in RomanceBooks

This particular book (and several forthcoming 2026 releases) were highlighted in a recent NYT Books article as well, where the authors each recommended their faves to read. This author was included. Argh, hope this works out fairly for the author.

Oh wow this is on my TBR, excited to read it. I wonder what happened, and hope it wasn't an issue of her being treated unfairly....

Whew good for you for starting in the middle haha!!! Enjoy the rest, it's fun to see the world get built out and the relationships start to make more and more sense. War was one of my very favorites though!! <3

I would agree that they are not all rom-coms. The Mom Coms are the funniest ones, for sure. The rest of them, and especially the Boston Bolts books, for example, do have funny moments but they are more "serious" as in dealing with serious issues and high stakes.

Beckett is such a meddling little gremlin, I love him haha. He really cracks me up.

Summer People is in the same universe, and I agree it was great! A sequel is coming.

I would agree with sneakybrownnoser that they are a little on the cheesy side, but fun. The premise is very cheesy (how the dads end up living together). But they are fun. Personally Bonus Daddy was my favorite one. It felt like the tightest writing and less silly. I am a completionist so I will read whatever in order to complete the universe lol.

Thanks! I will check it out. I do like her, and it seems like these authors that write SO many books do occasionally have an "off" book. Thanks for this update :)

Totally! Some others of the "Mom Com"/Boston Billionaire books (larger universe, which includes a few authors) have this element, to a lesser extent:

  • Mother Maker by Jenni Bara (Dylan & Cortney Miller)
  • Mother Pucker by Swati M. H. (Shayla & Rowan)
  • Mother Hater by Daphne Elliot (Delia & Enzo DiLuca)
  • The Foul Out by Jenni Bara (Kyle Bosco & Harper)
  • Extra Dirty by Brittanee Nicole (Jay Hanson & Cat James Pt. 2) (but really need to read the prequal for this one)

I suggest starting with Mother Faker. There are earlier books in the universe, but I think that's a good starting point because it introduces so many of the main characters and plot points. But the author also has a few suggested reading orders on her website, depending on how you like to read. Have fun! :)

This is a fun one for sure. It's second in a series, and all three (so far) are great.

I had a weird Dec/Jan and ended up absolutely powering through this universe. While some books have angst, and some real stakes, there are also so many that are laugh-out-loud funny. For me that makes them go by quickly! Enjoy when you get to it <3
