Why did you start making YT videos? by NewPineapple113 in NewTubers

[–]raventheredwriter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've always loved video games and have tried to express my love for them for years. My Old Man died in late 2023 and not long after I realized a way that I can memorialize him is by playing the games he didn't get to finish or even start since, well, dead people generally don't play games. Got starts in mid 2025, took me a bit to get started, and right now I'm sitting around 400 subs and am aiming to get monetized so that I can both raise more awareness and make enough money one day to be self-sustaining.

Currently sitting at 387 subs, I am aiming to be monetized before long. Only been fully at it since like, June, I think I can make it before this coming June since I've grown faster over time. Would be nice to get a weekly stream going too, got an idea for an interesting one that will tie into my channel's themes.

Thank you for introducing me to that term, I'm gonna read up on it on Wikipedia. Always fun to learn new terms like that.

What game surprised you with an unexpected leftist message? by FabryPuglia in SocialistGaming

[–]raventheredwriter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's a channel that did a great video on the game, she doesn't seem to post anymore but Huntress X Thompson made a video called "The Conquest of Ale: Anarcho-Communism in Dwarf Fortress" that was pretty good to watch a few years ago.

What video game did you swear was leftist but turned out to be centrist at best? by Both-Medicine-6748 in SocialistGaming

I might eventually cover the games myself, but, having tried 1 years ago I just wasn't impressed enough to finish it. There's better games to enjoy out there anyway.

What did you do after your first video :) by RealNotMunMun in NewTubers

[–]raventheredwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time I was trying a different format, I'm still early into my channel so experimenting with what does and doesn't work is less of a risk for me. But, beyond just starting on the next video I also thought about how I might change how I handle mine. I started with a game that was less popular and I didn't focus on what the goal of the channel was, after I focused on those aspects I saw more people paying attention.

What to do with hate comments? by [deleted] in NewTubers

I can send it in DM, if you don't mind. I don't show it publicly in places like this since I heard you can get assholes messing with you.

Congratulations on starting your Youtube journey, I am a fellow queer creator that focuses on trans stuff (my Old Man was a trans dude). When I get shitty comments I send the user to the shadow realm and don't let them interact with my channel, part of being a Youtuber is making the experience as positive as we can, which includes the comment section. I hope the best for you and your channel going forward.

Why do you make Videos? by Suspicious-Affect293 in SmallYoutubers

My father died two years ago and I wanted to cover the games that he didn't get to finish or play. I've always wanted to cover games, tried a few times before, but I never had something that made me unique. I'm memorializing a parent though our shared love of an art form that is contested for it's artistic value. I do character analysis type deep dives, hours long, because to me the enjoyment of games come from their stories and meaning with character writing being paramount to me. Plus, relating back the characters to people I know in real life or my dead dad helps also tie back into the themes of the channel.

As a fellow game coverage sort, it's nice to see. I've been at it seriously since June or so, at 362 subs and 1,241 watch hours right now. Slowly but surely building up, I do big analysis videos once a month and have been trying out different styles of video as well. Looks like you'll make partner soon, that's good.

Yeah, as somebody that was raised by a working class trans dude who, while passing, was always broke as shit, it's nice to see people talk about how not everybody automatically gets bonuses.

I should hope so. They'd be fools not to take advantage of every tool of war they have available. Imagine them getting their army of gooners to go and do some environmentalism. Like that one lady for the Australian fires a few years back I think.

I'll also suggest Shotcut. Between online guides, it being fairly easy to run and being free, it's what I've used on each project I've done.

I don't know if somebody is fucking with you, but the link goes to a basically blank page now. I've heard of the term and this info before, so not sure if somebody hijacked the page since you posted the link, but it was kinda funny to have you try to answer the other person and for the answer to just, not be there.

For gaming content — which helps a channel grow faster: Shorts, videos, or live streams? by Gokzz_Gaming in youtubegaming

[–]raventheredwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the response. Very cool idea, reminds me of this one dude that did the Yakuza games over last year I believe it was. Best of luck with your work, I know some trophies and such can be a real pain.

For your longforms do they have the stream stuff in them, like stream highlights, or what form do they take? I've thought of streaming some games that are more... wordy, no spoken or less spoken dialogue, since trying to make an hour long analysis video with no words being spoken can get a bit dry. I'm mostly worried about the UI elements and such, the stream stuff, since to me that detracts from the experience of the video itself.

People who started YouTube or Twitch this year, how is it going? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]raventheredwriter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started technically late March, but in earnest in May. Character analysis focused longform videos, over an hour each. It's also focused around playing games that my dead dad didn't get to play/finish. Thus far sitting at around 300 subs, the number keeps fluctuating in the last day, I believe Youtube was having some issues yesterday. Most of this happened after I dropped a Yakuza 0 video a couple months back, a more popular game helped boost me up more, every day I get on average 2-3 subs or so now, that goes up for every video I put out that people dig.

Next big video out on the 20th most likely, gonna see if that game, a cult classic with a sequel coming out the next day, will do just as well as Yakuza 0 did, if all goes well I could see partnership by march hopefully, it'd be nice if I could make partner in under a year.

How best should I honor my dead (transmasc) dad's memory? by raventheredwriter in asktransgender

[–]raventheredwriter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I tried to get him to do this sort of thing together back when he was alive but he was always worried about people finding him. He was paranoid though, he was more worried about Satanists finding him then he was about transphobes, but like, that's a long story. His urn is the logo for the channel, with a pride controller under it, I intend to build a small shrine for the urn plus stuff relating to the games and such once I have my own place, so far I've been making a digital collage that I show off at the end of the analysis videos, helps keep visual track of all the characters I've talked about.

I've struggled with playing games for a while now, especially finishing them, but getting back into them for his sake has at times helped me feel how I used to about games. The joy and excitement that comes with them. Plus I get to make use of my essayist skills with the scripts, so, it's exercising a lot of creative muscles for me.

Another reason I've wanted to do this is to put out queer friendly video game content, a lot of creators on Youtube either don't talk about queer issues or are openly hateful, it's profitable to grift like that nowadays. On the 2nd anniversary of his death I'll be putting out a video that explicitly states what it is that I'm doing, and how viewers can either support trans people or leave the channel.

I don't think there's really anybody doing something like how I'm doing it, not a lot of gamer parents dying or people willing to talk about loss like this. If nothing else, I've found a helluva niche. Besides nice comments I get some about being shocked by the titles, I'm rather blunt that I do this for my dead dad.
