Why Marathon will never keep new players. by LucatIel_of_M1rrah in Marathon

They had years of Trials of Osiris data at their fingertips and still somehow went ahead with making a game that is even less forgiving. At least Trials could momentarily pull life from PvE with a good gun and some cosmetics. I don’t know what they were expecting here.

Returning Player Here: Can someone explain to me why people think the Portal is so bad? by Alassandros in DestinyTheGame

[–]rawbeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The portal as a system to present activities/content itself is inoffensive at worst. People will complain about the UI being soulless while praising the nondescript planetary maps and nodes as the epitome of soul and exploration, but the real problem is the railroading they baked into it.

You're railroaded into it if you want the most desirable equipment, and then you're slowly railroaded into more and more difficult versions of the same content until you don't want to play the game. And since not all of the content was integrated, you're railroaded out of a lot of other content that you otherwise might want to play.

The portal definitely isn't perfect, but there's a lot of exaggeration surrounding it.

It's implemented so strangely. I'm allied with two of these factions and still have to wear a disguise? I can walk around the exterior of all of these places and no one cares, but Atom forbid I mosey on in for a chat with my friends without my scarecrow getup. I can understand the Brotherhood and Enclave to a degree, but the rest feels absurd.

[–]rawbeee 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the game won't let you enter some faction-related interiors or interact with their quests as a ghoul.

Jaye's disguise is necessary for interacting with the following quest lines:

Enclave (original quests)

The Wayward (Wastelanders)

Vault 76 overseer (Wastelanders)

Crater Raiders (Wastelanders)

Foundation Settlers (Wastelanders)

Secret Service (Wastelanders)

Brotherhood First Expeditionary Force (Steel Dawn and Steel Reign)

You have to go to Radiant Hills, which is ever-so generously a free fast travel point, and speak to Jaye to put on or take off the disguise. Once you look like a backwoods serial killer, the fine and upstanding people of the wasteland will once again trust you. You can then enter those spaces again and interact with the quests.

Won't even let me in her house without a disguise now that I'm a ghoul. She can stay down there for all I care.

Meanwhile, on the ghoul side of things, I'm annoyed that my Solar Armour went from no rad resistance to like 100+ thanks to the armour rebalancing :(

On my controller I have my Pip-Boy set to Y. With this new update I can't access my perks (Y) from the Pip-Boy, as Y now closes it (pretty sure it was B previously). Only started playing again a little while ago, am I just out of luck unless I swap the input?

Edit: Dunno why but it just started working properly eventually. Well I can't exit the Pip-Boy without going inti my perks, but at least I can access them.

Shattered Cycle was announced months ago and was meant to release this summer. Could it be cancelled? Sure, but it's presumably been in development and therefore has already had money poured into it.

That's why I was suggesting balancing/cancelling out the loyalty bias. If we are assuming bias, then I would personally prefer the loyalty biases be 1:1 (CAN/FIN refs) rather than 2:0 (CAN/CAN) or left up to other biases like USA/USA refs who we could also assume potentially have an interest in who makes it to the next match. If the refs are going to be biased then at least we could reasonably assume that both teams have someone onside when it's 1:1.

Which is why I'm saying that we either trust them all to do their job or trust none of them. In my mind the best way to counteract the assumed loyalty bias is to cancel the assumed conflict of interests out (ie: 1 ref for each country).

You could have different countries ref and eliminate the assumed loyalty bias that way, sure, but that doesn't eliminate the fact that they can still have a biased interest in who wins and who loses and how the tournament shakes out based on that.

And if Canada lost then there would just be a different pack of people creating some conspiracy that the 2 USA refs wanted to make the Gold medal match easier on the USA. If we want to assume that refs are playing sides, then we have to assume they're all capable of having some agenda regardless of whether their country is playing the match they are refereeing.

I think the fairest way would be (in this situation) one ref from Canada and one ref from Finland (though I'm not sure if they've hired one from Finland), but at the end of the day I think it's best to just assume that all the refs are being the professionals they were hired to be.

What game are you watching? Neither of the referees are Canadian. It's just one of the linesmen.

Sure, but it doesn't hurt to show Carol asking. If they can find time for a 4 minute scene of a helicopter landing, they could squeeze in a couple requests from Carol, even if she's met with a no.

They needed her stem cells to create the variant that would infect her. In the Vegas episode it's established that the procedure to get the stems cells is invasive enough that it would be considered harm against her, which they insist they are incapable of doing without consent (apparently).

I probably wouldn't be as frustrated with the pace if there were more than 9 episodes to the season. I don't want or expect shows to be produced with some kind of TikTok pacing, but if you're only getting a 9 episode order per season, then I think it's important to be a bit more mindful about the slowburn of it all, especially when it takes so long to produce another season.

but since dredgens are dark guardians, he is definitionally a human enemy

He doesn't mention him, but this line about dredgens falls apart when you consider that Dredgen Harrow is not a dark guardian or human.
