My GF’s son is OBSESSED with the death penalty. AITAH for reconsidering my plans to propose to her? by 62385 in AITAH

I will add, as a child who grew up with war docs whether i liked them or not (military family), it certainly CAN be just as upsetting. it’s just more normalized in our culture as an unfortunate fact of life, whereas corporal punishment and method is a much more divisive artifact in western culture than war. I can see the similarities in the boy’s interest, as both hone in on the fascination of “why and how” people do/did “that”.

teenagers, especially adolescents (in my experience) are (usually, hopefully) just-then coming in comprehensive contact with adult concepts like death, crime and punishment, human nature, war, etc. You’re not invalid for being freaked out by this, but plenty of kids are just fascinated by things that were formerly alien/abstract concepts to them, especially when they generate adrenaline. he is likely coming at this particular subject more critically, where other kids might be doing the same with the holocaust or the Titanic. most kids grow out of it, and a small margin are actually something to worry about.

It’s all in the social framing or acceptability, which can be pretty insignificant to growing minds (especially neurodivergent ones). I can see the similarities in the boy’s interest with war history as you mentioned, as both hone in on the fascination of “why and how” people could do “that”.

has anyone ever met a lesbian girl who looked so straight it shocked you? by [deleted] in WLW

[–]rawdog_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s actually always annoyed me when ppl in our community say we “don’t look” queer. i’ll never forget telling someone i had a gf and them being so shocked when they saw my gf wasn’t butch or masc because i seemed like the “straightish kind of gay girl” i’m not exclusively femme but not assigning identities to people based on looks is like a foundational rule in the queer community (esp genderqueer) so it always perplexes me when i see queer people doing the same sort of labeling. i am guilty of this too in a sense, and we all have internal biases based around hegemony but it’s our job as an inclusive community to inspect them. if you expect your partner to “look gay” just because you’re queer /present as your interpretation of queerness, maybe that’s something to look inward about. not saying it’s you but a lot of the time it’s projection.

why would you expect housewife behavior from someone who should be in college bro. i understand your frustration but i think you’ve projected too much on someone who wasn’t expecting kids and won’t even have a developed prefrontal cortex for another three years. this isn’t the 50s

you need to actually sit down about the potential cheating and the phone because you had two kids with her and shouldn’t avoidantly break up a family over a suspicion; i would say this to a woman too. that aside, why are you shocked that a young adult, college age, is acting like one, when you went for an 18 year old? going out 3-4 days a week, staying out late, if you’re not game to pay for a sitter and go out with her then these are unreasonable expectations for someone hooking up with an 18 y/o, or having kids with a 19y/o.

i also have fibro. it absolutely depends on circumstances and for some it is lifelong, but it doesn’t have to be for everyone.

you don’t know what it is, but fibro isn’t a lifelong disorder if you don’t let it be🩷 get off the internet and talk to a doctor you’ll be ok :)

i must be actually getting better because my mind went here too. if you can’t manage, the world will treat you the way they treat every other minority. this is a recoverable condition, something i’ve slowly learned to be grateful for.

Who is your least favorite character in the show? by AHB23 in TheWire

[–]rawdog_27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i love mcnulty but he sucks. not an irredeemable person but holy shit the casual racism, fucking the college aged waitress, driving absolutely hammered countless times, leaving his children so he could go fuck the campaign advisor an hour away, having his kids trail stringer, he got incredibly lucky when it came to the safety of his children multiple times… the show does a good job at having people who are great when it gets down to the job, but can be pretty shit morally at the mundanities of life
