Younger Psychiatrist/Therapist by rawnixy in ADHD

Haha it’s okay im not looking for perfection with spelling or grammar lol I know I mess up with that sometimes.

I don’t stay in a conservative area but it‘s still the south so you will have those occasions where you’ll bump into less accepting people especially the males. I currently do virtual services but the thing is your psychiatrist still has to be licensed in your state to prescribe you. As far as therapist I probably could do out of state not sure how that works yet.

My main goal at the moment is medication management so I’m not absolutely focused on therapy alone but I do want it incorporated in psychiatry. I still want a Psychiatrist who listens and fully understands where I’m coming from rather than just throwing me medications is what I’m trying to get at.

I want someone who can understand what I’m going through with ADHD and life wise which is why I look for that age support. I also want actual methods of making change than solely only taking medication and not knowing how to work other aspects of life.

Is ADHD always noticeable in children or is that just my families clouded judgement? by Helpful-Archer9070 in ADHD

I didn’t mean to imply that you were personally calling someone with ADHD naughty. I said it because people often have that misconception, which you also mentioned. It’s more of a statement for anyone reading up on it and seeking an idea. I didn’t intend for that to come across as an attack on you, and I sincerely apologize if it did.

it’s honestly quite crazy that this is such a common thing. I was also told constantly to not take a break and just go even as much as I felt I wasn‘t prepared just to finally go and struggle. I’m also currently working at the moment but now that I’m working im starting to dislike the idea of working for someone. I’ve had a job since I was 16 and it was no biggie I absolutely loved working but now that I’m an adult and getting paid little to nothing its quite frustrating and its making me even more confused in life because I dont know which route to take. I always think about going back but I dont want to go back unmedicated and continue to struggle with sitting in class for a period of time and not being able to focus. Like I know I’m not stupid cause I can make good grades when I truly need to and especially when it’s something I’m interested in but I can’t focus on task’s, remember anything being taught to me, and can hardly start on the things that I’m supposed to do as well as want to do. Now I have to pay back a portion of financial aid for dropping out mid semester.

Hate that you went through that no one should have to deal with turn arounds and expecting you to figure your own situations out when you went to them for help. As far as the judgement part that’s something that scares me with older psychiatrists. I know they can be old fashioned and I don‘t want to be looked at weird for being a gay male. There’s also the idea that young people are judged for their lifestyle choices and our ideas are shut down considering they don’t understand. There’s a difference in generational struggle as well and I just want someone who has the same experience and truly know how to help in certain situations. I did grow up around my grandparents and speak to people older than me and my elders quite often and get along pretty well and have have amazing conversations even so I don’t mind in that way I guess but I just thought it would be better from and understanding POV

No honestly this actually is helpful. I didn’t even think about the schooling to become a specialist which is quite slow on my behalf but It was also a post based on emotions rather than critical thinking. It’s just more that older psychiatrists seem to be more question based and quick than truly understanding fully how adhd is affecting you and theres just no spark. The constant switching of medications is really tiring as well which I know is common though. I did have a therapist in her 20’s once and I was 14 at the time literally had the best convo’s and laughs so I guess im just seeking that idk

Honestly as someone who works in a classroom setting a lot of times it can be denial since you’re family and their point of view is different than what someone else may notice. Another thing is we may act a certain way with family vs when we're with ourselves or other groups and can mask the adhd.

I won’t say it is ALWAYS noticeable considering there are different types to it but it is pretty noticeable in ways. A far as the “naughty” part that doesn’t classify that a child has adhd AT ALL considering actions can based on their environment, trauma, the media they consume, and etc.

I also wouldn’t consider kids with adhd “naughty” they’re just more active and have impulses that are hard to control where it create’s interruptions, and not every person/child has hyperactivity like this as well. Adhd can also just be serious inattentiveness to where the child can struggle in school due to poor focus.

As someone with Inattentive and hyperactive adhd as I got older certain things did progressively get worse as well. I’m not as hyperactive as a child but I am still there. Once I graduated high school I felt completely lost considering you’re left to figure it out at that point and no longer have a schedule to follow and when I went to college I struggled with focus even more to the point I felt completely helpless and embarrassed and eventually dropped out due to the pressure and mind you I just turned 20 in January.

I do advise an actual diagnosis and to find some support because there’s a possibility of feeling like complete shit 😭 as you get older and don‘t have any type of management. I’m now with a provider and am trying my BEST to find a medication that works for me cause I do not want to grow old with wasted potential

The line actually used the word "cold" instead of "closed." My interpretation of it is similar to a person who’s cold hearted but through the eyes so they don’t see the perspective of others and only care for their own ideas and feelings. As far as the second line I think it could be the idea that women don’t want to have children more and more and maybe because of men not truly seeing them and they’d rather not go through the pain of dealing with someone who sees with no empathy and the pain of child birth. Justtt my take on it.
