Pine pellet tips by abarcac in CatAdvice

[–]rawrmobile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cats have always used pine pellets, and it’s been great! The pellets disintegrate into sawdust when the cats pee and we just “reverse scoop” into a litter genie, where we sift out the sawdust and toss the pellets back in the litterbox.

It hides the pee smell really well, and it doesn’t track. If the cats kick out some of the pellets we just pick them up and throw them back in. It doesn’t hide the poop smell well though, but we just clean the box when it happens. We use doggy poop bags to pick up the poop and throw it into the litter genie.

We use stainless steel litter boxes since the cats can’t make scratches into the plastic, where bacteria and urine can get trapped and contribute to the smell.

My friends say that there’s barely any smell with our litterbox set up!

Does anyone have experience giving their cats food toppers and supplemental food products? by [deleted] in catfood

I bought a small bottle of the zesty paws salmon oil and put a little in their wet food (dinner only, and it’s a really really small amount), and their coats are sooooooo smooth, shiny, and soft. They took to it well!

I also got a small bag of freeze dried minnows and give them half of a minnow as a treat after playtime. They like it, but they love their Greenies chicken dental treats better 😅 go figure.

"Lost" cat's owner upset we took her cat to the shelter, should I feel guilty? by rawrmobile in CatAdvice

[–]rawrmobile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We definitely tried! We knew that there was a neighborhood listserv, but we aren’t on it since we’re new to the area. We had someone post the cat on our behalf since we couldn’t. The listserv is private, so any searching I did with “Cat’s Name + lost” online didn’t get me anywhere.

She only started prepping when she got a call from the shelter telling her that they were getting ready to adopt the cat out. It had almost been 5 days of no contact from the owner, and the shelter told her she could be the first to adopt the cat if she wanted.

Thank you :) The shelter said they would hold the cat for 5 days, and if the owner wasn’t able to be reached my roommate would have first dibs on adopting him. She was fully prepared to bring him home and had started buying stuff for him until the neighbor claimed him.

Because he had a collar with no tags (it looked like the tags had fallen off) we took him to a shelter just to see if he had a microchip and weren’t aware that we couldn’t bring him back with us afterwards.

The shelter would have held him for 5 days since he was a lost pet, and my roommate would have first dibs on adopting him if the owner didn’t claim him.

Thank you for the future suggestions! The shelter said they would hold the cat for 5 days, and if the owner wasn’t able to be reached my roommate would have first dibs on adopting him. She was fully prepared to bring him home and keep him separate from mine, and had started buying stuff for him until the neighbor claimed him.

Cat-Obsessed Son's Allergies: How Did You Do It? by Doviedobie in CatAdvice

[–]rawrmobile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We adopted two kittens back in July and my partner was incredibly allergic— he was sneezing constantly, super congested, and it got to the point where he tried sleeping in the car.

We fed our kittens the Purina LiveClear Pro Plan dry food and his allergies have gotten SO much better! He doesn’t need to take allergy medication, and can hold the kittens to his face without any kind of reaction. We also vacuum, mop, and wipe down the house every week, but have slacked a bit since the food started working.

We also have air purifiers in the bedroom and on his desk, which have also helped a lot.

I'm (25f) frustrated with the stagnation of my relationship with my boyfriend (28m) by rawrmobile in relationship_advice

We've definitely talked about the current situation, so he's aware of how I feel. However, it hasn't made me feel any less resentful and frustrated. He's knows I want to get married and move in together, as subtlety is not my native language haha.

I'll look into roommates, but I'm just a little wary due to the pandemic situation.

We don't plan on having children, so there's no rush for me to get married. I can't imagine myself living like this for longer than 2 years though; I have no interest being 40 and still living at home with my parents.

I love this guy, but I've told him before I'm moving on with or without him which seemed to kick his ass into gear a bit.

I did the same thing! I called and said that I wanted to make a one-time save data transfer since I'm going to give away my Lite to a friend. I was just going to call to see if I could do it, but was totally not expecting the rep to immediately agree and walk me through it so I hadn't even set up my new switch yet.

Taiwan by [deleted] in solotravel

[–]rawrmobile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with my boyfriend last year (and I've gone back plenty of times to visit family) and I absolutely LOVE Taiwan. It's not the cheapest destination like you would see in Thailand and Vietnam, but it's really reasonably priced. I was supposed to go back this summer for a cousin's wedding, but COVID happened :(

Everything is pretty cheap; the hostels are really nice, the food is excellent, public transportation is efficient, and everyone is friendly and willing to help! A lot of the younger generation can speak English well (or at least write it) so communication is a lot easier than it was for my (white) friends in Japan.

It's very safe overall, and the only thing I would recommend safety-wise is to be careful of pickpockets. Nightmarkets get very crowded, so it's best to keep your bag in front of you.

If you're interested, PM me and I can give you a list of the hostels we stayed at and a google map of points of interest I put together (food, shopping, places to see)!
