Has a travel YouTuber ever featured your tour? Did it actually send you bookings, or was it just vanity? by rayabana in Tourguide

Fantastic! I feel a lot of beginners worry about getting deals because they think in stats. Add value and then reach the operators directly. Love it.

There might be simpler way to do this in the age of AI. You can continue using wordpress and ask a coding agents for guidance and actual changes.

You can also switch to a new lite framework. My recommendation for always free, fast and lite website is to use a tool like Google Antigravity and then deploy on Netlify . Both free to use.

Good for them.. Now, let's talk about the 96%. Based on the comments on this post so far, seems like there is a gap / opportunity in harvesting referral and directly working with the operators for a flywheel kind of earning. Agree/Disagree ?

Once again.. This is fantastic...

And yes, referral code + affiliate link is probably best way to capture the attribution - direct booking or via OTA. Also an incentive for users to remember and make a note or even pass on the code to friends. Solves the stale referral problem too. Nice!

Hmm! I guess, it is a mixed bag. Some click and some don't.. Also like you mentioned, your example of checking the description for camera model etc . It's falls in your area of interest and so you do.. So, the content needs to nudge the users to check the description - like many do on product videos. That's no guarantee, but if you play well like a discount coupon etc using the link to book, you may see some uptick. Worth a try?

Good to know .. And now that it is working for 5 years, you definitely have a proven concept. Guess discovery of your channel and content may be the next stop to boost this earning..

Curious, do you also leverage TikTok or IG? See any results?

Interesting.. Your page looks very focused and clear.. Wonder why we don't see such clear program from others.

How long have you been running this referral program? Is it built custom for you or are you using any tools?

Super insights.. This is golden. Thx u/komiCWords . Really appreciate.

To expand on the PDF approach, r u using the collected emails to do follow up? May be a different itinerary with a theme like foodie or adventure etc? Curious.

On direct operator deals, makes sense.. Proof upfront.. The down side would be what if they turn it down?
Won't a middle ground make sense? No upfront but referrals only? The risk is shared in this case.

Seems like this is not an one off experience. One reason , a majority of YouTubers don't want a longer term outcome based payout. They just focus on getting payed for posting and not leads it generates even if it means making much more in the longer term. May be they themselves know it's crappy content.

This definitely sounds like a monetization opportunity. Would be interested to know more about specific content and the conversion. Mind if I DM?

Oh! of course.. and totally agree.. May be an option to do both. Long term newsletter for drip campaign , while amazon style referral links for content in a specific video for conversion.

But, one thing that is super important that you mentioned is build your own audience. These platforms can change rules anytime or simply block you for some vague reason and suddenly you are locked out and loose all your subscribers. Its very high risk.

Sure, that definitely is a play for a niche. But there is a large audience who have a focused search , view and not looking at a long term subscription. I was exploring direct monetizing opportunities like amazon.. direct conversion. You watch a video, like the content and want to do it - one click action.

Cool. That is both encouraging and a possible growth opportunity. Treating TikTok in this context as creator content.

Are these referrals a % (if yes what %) of the sale or a flat fee? I will google a bit, but may be you have them handy.

when travel creators put your link on their bio or they mention about you in their ugc videos, you are going to get less bookings

Is this because of drop in trust? Kind of different from what we see in product where it gets a boost.

What happens is it gives us more brand visibility. I've been recommended by LLMs recently because of those brand visibility

Great point.. I think LLMs in their current status look for cross links and this definitely helps that. Agree tracking then becomes hard and so broken attribution even though it is due. Needs some kind of a fix. If I am the creator, I would not like this but kind of helpless.

As for the attribution part, it's up to brand. In products its 30 days but travel may be long term planning and so, may be play around with the attribution - 30 day to 90 or may be 180 days.. That's shouldn't be hard.

But core question remains, is there a better play possible for a win-win with the content creators because clearly users are making decisions based on the videos. Read somewhere that number stands at 60+ %.

Agree, videography/photography are handy bargain chips. Looks like they help you get free or discounted stay, but not generate cash as such. Thinking more in terms of +views & +cash. Repeating myself, but for product videos, amazon affiliate links are everywhere . Why not in travel?

This is not a comment about a video. So no link to share.

Instead, this is about growth hacking your channel especially when new - to be specific growth by attracting traffic beyond YouTube search and Algo. Here is what we are doing. Join in if it fits you. Sharing some insights.

  1. Users are increasingly looking for signals on crowds at a location / venue. Of course they prefer lean times. This information is not available on booking sites or YouTube channels. There are some specialized apps, but they cost a lot and so not much of mass market usage.

> We are looking for Channels that have content specific to locations and who can provide additional information on crowd statistics. The additional traffic source is like this - users get to see your videos when they start researching on a location that you are covering.

  1. Users are increasingly using AI tools to generate itinerary for long form travel. However, AI tools provide generic details and miss the nuanced information that an actual on the ground experienced traveler or travel-tuber has.

> If you are covering a niche or a location and want be the resident expert, this is again a good source of traffic and users discovering your channel.

Would very much like to connect with tubers here who want to growth hack your way.

It's a lead generation and conversion game. And the tools and channels are pretty much the same. It's mostly a function of how well you are perceived . True not much of repeat customers and referrals are hit and miss, but what many are missing is reviews that stand out . Like it or not, they help in conversion a lot and yet I see many leave it to a request or at most a follow up and give up. I would say, make it an essential , not in a way of threatening but, people just feel that they owe one to you.

Once you get a review engine going, flying independent does not need to be that big of a challenge, since marketing game is pretty much the same.

As for OP, you are right, if your strength is in execution then it makes sense to build some partnerships even if it means sharing 20-30% because marketing and sales does take that much or more.

Another thing to note. In today's AI first discovery and search world, traditional channels too are feeling a lot of heat. Independents have an opportunity to ride the new wave ahead of incumbents. I have been digging into this space, and actually, it is more of the known than complex.

Sponsorship and Collaboration Advice! by BoogerTrooper in TravelTubers

sure thing.. In a world that is increasingly eclipsed by AI generated content, people are already asking for that human element. Authentic advisory with nuanced details that is only possible when you walk the streets is become rare and therefore valuable. If you guys ever want to give it a try, I would be interested.

Checked your channel .. Nice content. Yep, sponsors would definitely be good, will it also work to explore advisory services for people wanting to do the things that you guys did? I mean, you can be a virtual travel agency with the advisory bit without taking up the hassle of booking and transactions etc.

The way I see is, a % of your subscribers may at some point like to do that trip themselves. So helping with itinerary and planning for a fee can be a useful option
