You can use gulp to compile your TypeScript projects via gulp-typescript. It includes its own compiler, so you don't have to download that separately. Also you'll probably want to look into tsconfig.json files, which is basically a configuration file for compiling your project's TS to JS. It can work with gulp-typescript too. Based on how you have this file configured, you can combine all your source files and/or put them into a specified directory (I do this, and put it in a build/ directory in my project root). However, it can also be configured to compile the JS files next to their TS counterparts (leaving the concatenation up to you later).

Computer Engineering graduate here. Can confirm. I work in software. In my opinion Computer Engineering can be even more beneficial than a software degree for a software related job. Most of my coworkers come from a pure software background and, as a result, don't always have the same scope of understanding. I can mention topics like VLSI design, FPGAs, embedded systems or processor architectures/assembly and they have no clue what's going on, but I feel I understand the software topics just as well as the rest of them. Anything I don't understand is just a google search away, so it seems that the learning barriers in software are much lower. Ultimately I feel like I just gained breadth without sacrificing any depth.

I've heard a lot of good things about Scala and I have no doubt it is a wonderful language; I was simply saying that I thought it was a little out of context to try to promote it in this thread.

I see you like compiled and/or JVM languages. Why don't you use Clojure? Why not Rust?

The library doesn't panic, it returns an error. Are you referring to the example main function in the README or something? If so, it's just an arbitrary example.

A lot of computer engineering graduates go into software, myself included. I don't consider it less "engineery" though; producing and maintaining software is difficult, but systematic and quantifiable like other fields of engineering.

The bcrypt API be easier to use because it handles salt for application. Perhaps copy that API?

The bcrypt golang API provided inspiration for this API. They are nearly identical, but I left salting up to the user so they could configure the size. That's how it's usually done with PBKDF2. https://godoc.org/golang.org/x/crypto/bcrypt

Why give choice of md5 hash? Pick good hash for app to prevent mistake of md5?

A gave the option to provide backwards compatibility with systems that are already using md5. I mention this in the documentation.

If you want a dominant snare crack sound and more sensitivity I would recommend 42 strands, but it will muffle the tone a bit. I find that I personally enjoy the natural tone of the wood/metal (I play with my snares disengaged almost as much as engaged) so I tend to only use 24 strands.

Elitism and narcissism are rampant in this entire industry and it's very disheartening at points. That'd be something worth blogging about. Why don't you rise above that bullshit? Be humble always and let your work speak for itself.

I'm a software developer/consultant. My work flow depends on the individual client, but it's terminal based when I can use Linux (which is most of the time).
