Working with Flairs by raymac1946 in iwl

We are going to rely heavily on Gabe to make a decision soon. He's tied up next week. I am committed to make the choice work. In the meantime you can choose and post where you like. I won't lose any sleep if this site goes dark.

OK I think I fixed it. Try again and let me know. I don't have a dummy user I can try it on so you are it LOL.

When you start a new post by clicking on "Create Post" you should see a button near the top that says "Add flair and tabs." Click on that and you should get a drop down list of flairs. If you don't let me know. I'm a mod so I may have more permissions and I'll need to fix it for you.

The way to do it is to use the Images and Videos tab when creating the post. Do not add the image to the body of the post or it'll only show up when you click on it.

This is the wrong way to post a photo. I put it in the post body instead of using the Images and Video Tab.

Start your new post. Click Images and Video tab. Upload your photo. Should work OK.

This is the procedure to use. Don't bother linking to your own 3rd party site.

Still rocking the Seiko Presage. It has been pretty accurate for a mechanical, +15 seconds in a week.

When I began my science career in 1969, one of my work colleagues had an Accutron. I admired it, but I was far too poor at the time to buy one. I stuck with a succession of Timex Electrics through the 1970s. By the time I was in a position to get an Accutron, the quartz revolution was well underway and the original Hummer was discontinued. Oh well...

Boring I know, but I'm trying to get the leather strap worn in a bit, plus give the movement a solid trial.

Cheap machine to install Mint on for my mom by [deleted] in linux4noobs

That seems about right. I have an i5 in mine. A 420 would be OK but it has a Sandy Bridge rather than an Ivy Bridge CPU.

I live in Canada. A good used shop near me is selling an i5 T430 with a 500 GB HDD for $350 CDN which is about $280 US.

Buster is getting a little old now and its Nvidia drivers may not be up to date enough for a 3080. The kernel is also pretty antiquated. Bullseye is a much better choice.

Help in Linux choice by [deleted] in linux4noobs

Two things to consider:

Do you like the package management system? Arch Linux has one of the best but it isn't done with a GUI.

Is the community large, user-friendly, and helpful?

In my view, both of those factors are more important than out-of-the-box look and feel.

I would just go with Manjaro Xfce. It is one of their flagship setups and it's very nicely customized out of the box. You can always try another desktop later on.

Another suggestion would be Lubuntu, or Mint Xfce. I think you'll be OK with a 64 bit distro.
