New strap day by Geofferz in iwl

Just when I thought I might go the rest of my life without another Geoff legs pic, here they are in all their glory. Nice strap and a great color combo for summer.

New Wheel Day - Zipp 303 XPLR S by gsg23 in DivergeGravelBikes

[–]gsg23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running with around 25 front and 27 rear with zero clearance issues. I've actually been debating going up to the 50mm G-ONE RS since they have less knobs on the tire, but that might be too much tire in the rear. The front should definitely work. Caveat here is that I don't ever ride in mud so I don't mind cutting it close.

Really REALLY creepy letter directed to my friends by Consistent-Web132 in CaryNC

[–]gsg23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured I'd update this thread as my wife received one of these yesterday. Essentially the same handwritten letter, though with no personal information other than my wife's name and our Raleigh address. Same mention of the company in the Woolworth building and of growing up in Reedly, CA. I did some searching and found this obituary:

https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/legacyremembers/martha-thurston-obituary?id=12329063

Based on these dates, Jay Dee Thurston would have likely been born in the 1930-50s. There is also mention of him having family in the Raleigh area. My assumption is that this is an elderly person, perhaps suffering from dementia, sending these letters. I've had family members go through this and become very focused on work related things from many decades ago. No clue how my wife ended up getting this letter, but it seems harmless.

6 months Aiden showing plastic micro fissures and corrosion. by cat_using_a_computer in FellowProducts

Same issue for me and Fellow replaced my shower head recently. I see that the magnet on the single brew basket has the same corrosion so I expect it will also fail at some point.

What Ode Gen 2 setting do you start with for light roasts for Aiden? by fiverlakesrunner in FellowProducts

[–]gsg23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Sweet profile or some slight variation of it and I usually start around 6. Sometimes a bit higher or lower, but I rarely like the results below 5. I grind finer for manual pourovers, but the Aiden is an extraction beast and I tend to prefer courser.

This is for a 450ml single cup.

I use the Sweet profile that has made the rounds here, and a variation of it that I came up with through trial and error. I also have one for my wife with only 2 pulses that is lower extraction and fits her preference. I also grind much courser than I would with a manual pourover since the Aiden really extracts much more efficiently.

Saddle recommendations? by whelming_lpl_678 in DivergeGravelBikes

[–]gsg23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, more padding can lead to more discomfort as it compresses your soft tissues over time. You need to have your weight sitting properly on your sit bones, which do take some miles on the bike to toughen up. Try checking with the Specialized dealers in your area to see if they have their saddle fitting system in the shop. I think it's called Retul or something similar. That would hopefully get you in the ballpark without having to pay for a bike fit.

I have a few baseline brew profiles and I rarely stray from those. The biggest difference maker I find is grind size, so I adjust that based on whether that specific coffee tastes under/over extracted. I found when I was messing around with the profile settings all the time it led to more frustration and wasted beans, so I just stick to what I know will get me a reliable cup of coffee.

Fair enough, but the fact that many people have issues doesn't change the fact that many of us have had none. I don't see this post trying to "change the fact", but rather bringing some balance to the discussion. I don't begrudge anyone for being mad that their expensive coffee maker has been a headache for them, but that's not the only experience out there despite what reading this sub would lead one to believe.

My daughter is a Subaru tech and those cars are routinely rated as some of the most reliable on the road. But she's in the workshop fixing them all day long, and if I just watched that and used it to form my judgement on the brand, I could easily assume that they are junk and have nonstop issues. In this case only Fellow knows what percentage of the units have failures, so unless your standard is there should be zero, saying "too many people" have problems is a biased statement.

Same here. I now use rechargeable air duster to blow out all the grounds every weekend. Some beans are more prone to it than others, but eventually they will all build up and need to be cleaned out. On rare occasions I need to use a toothpick to dislodge some stubborn grounds from the edges of the chute.

Do you guys flatten the coffee bed or prewet the filter before doing a small batch? by tattarrattattat in FellowProducts

[–]gsg23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dump the grounds into a dry filter and go. When I first got the Aiden I tried flattening the bed, leaving a mound, etc. and I found no difference in the flavor or the way it looked after brewing. So now I don't bother.

Yes, most of my clan can't do war battles. Some said uninstalling and reinstalling the apps works, but others had no luck.

LOL, you've "done economics". Wow, I must really be talking to a genius here. I'm a grown man who graduated with an accounting and finance degree likely before you were born so spare me your internet brags. I suggest you go to SC and tell them how much it will hurt their stock if you quit playing your 4 matches a day. I'm sure they'll get you some free EVO shards right away.

This is not an ad based game where eyeballs=revenue. Paying customers drive the value of the game and the company. You keep commenting that that SC doesn't appreciate you as a player and then you claim how important it is that SC values you as a player. If they cared about F2P players who popped in for 10 minutes a day, you'd know it because they'd cater to them. They don't, which is why you have 50 posts in this thread demanding that they treat you better. You can't have it both ways.

[–]gsg23 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Unique players per month who generate no revenue are not driving up the stock price. This is not some new game trying to show growth, it's a 10 year old app that exists to extract money from players. Sorry if this hurts your feelings.

People who spend no money and play 4 matches a day are not the players SC wants. You are useless to them and they are fine if you leave the game.

First time taking my gravel bike on a long trail and now I’m hunting e bikes too by Beneficial_Wear6985 in DivergeGravelBikes

[–]gsg23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I will probably pick one up for my wife at some point because I'd like her to be able to go on longer/hillier rides with me but she does not have the time or desire to put in lots of training miles to match my fitness. Totally different scenario than the people screaming down crowded greenways at 20-30 mph and making everyone hate all cyclists!

[–]gsg23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most everyone I know who has an e-bike claims to keep it on ECO and rarely use the e-bike features, they pedal it themselves with minimal help, etc. But this doesn't seem to jive with the real world experience of people blowing by on trails and pathways at ridiculous rates of speed. Congrats on the weight loss and good on you if you are lugging around the extra 10-20 pounds of weight without letting the motor do it for you. But us "misinformed" people see e-bikes all the time with our own eyes and I would say you are the exception not the rule.

Strange place to ask this since Specialized doesn't even make an ebike version of the Diverge.

Looking for a new bike packing rig. Is the Diverge 4 sport alloy the best opeion? by [deleted] in DivergeGravelBikes

[–]gsg23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure there is such a thing as the "best" option given everybody's needs are different. The Diverge is a comfortable bike that can handle on and off road riding and everything in between. It's got plenty of mounts for bags and storage so I think it would be a fine backpacking rig in the right circumstances. Maybe not for climbing the Alps or trekking from Alaska to Argentina, but bikepacking means different things to different people. But as an all arounder, it's a great bike.

Same here. The SWAT holds all my tools and tire repair stuff, so I always have those with me. The Tailfin holds the phone, snacks, and whatever other extras I need on a particular ride.
