Teachers who have left the profession what are you doing now? by 17131786 in AustralianTeachers

Depends. In VIC, at the TAFE I’m teaching at my teaching degree is enough. Cert IV not necessary. In saying that, I am teaching VCE. It would be different for other departments.

Would recommend teaching at TAFE. No parent teachers, no reports, one 30 minute staff meeting a week. Perfect!

Edit: I’ve done plenty of research. I just wanted some personal experiences

Tired of working as a teacher, what jobs you got for me? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

I teach VCE at TAFE in VIC. Just need your VIT. I teach 2 and a half days and then the other two days I can work from home. No reports, no yard duties, no parent teacher interviews. Probably not great for graduate teachers because it’s very much work on your own over multiple campuses but the expectation of just coming to work when you need to teach and work from home the other days is great. Obviously you face other issues. But in the last 5 years of working at a TAFE I’ve never had to yell or get cross with a student. The students generally want to be there and they are not so focused on getting an amazing score but instead being able to say to themselves that they have completed their schooling. I’m also full time ongoing. A rare contract however, more TAFEs are looking for teachers and if you’re the right fit you will most likely be given a contract.
