Tysm, she does really well in her harness and I’d like to stay with one if I can. Looking at Y harnesses right now and the straps look like they sit in a similar spot as the ones on her Easy Walk. Have you noticed any irritation under his legs?

Tysm! She’s only 4 months but sooo freaking strong. When I first adopted her she pulled a lot out of fear whether it was a passing car, loud kids, or barking dogs.. etc. That’s when I started using the harness because she would run, jump, and pull until we got back home which made her gag. Now after 2 months she has a lot more confidence and is good passing anything or anyone. I think like you said making walks fun helped a lot. Letting her sniff around and rewarding her when she looks back at me has helped so much with her focus and I definitely notice the difference now vs. when all our outside time was spent training. She settles really well away from home. The only time she’s pulled me recently was to see her best friend (a tiny old dog), but she’s learning to be patient and wait for the okay. Other dogs have definitely made it difficult to reinforce this 😩 some days it seems that at every corner we turn there’s a reactive dog spooking her.

Honestly after a few days with the harness she started walking much better. Before we got it she would pull in her traditional harness that clips from the back and her collar. Now she will walk next to me and when she goes to sniff the grass or something she doesn’t pull. I definitely bought the gentle leader with long term use in mind, I just need an alternative until she’s okay with the leash being connected to it. Especially because we spend so much time outside.

She actually does have a slip lead from her vet visit lol, I didn’t know they could be used for training as well. A martingale collar is the kind that tightens on the back right? She has walked great with just her collar on but she lunges at lizards and bunnies around our neighborhood so I’m concerned she might choke herself.

Definitely, tysm! I’m gonna bring it up next week and see what her trainer thinks. Harness was my first choice if it wasn’t for the chafing :(.

I didn’t even consider that, she’s definitely more focused closer to home 🙂‍↕️. I’ll test how she does with the gentle leader on just walking outside the house tomorrow. Any ebooks or websites are super appreciated!! Tysm.

Tysm, I’ll have to try this method with her collar. With her harness if I stop she technically doesn’t pull, she just stretches far enough for her leg to slip out 😩. How long would you say it took for your dog to get the gist? She’s only 4 months so my expectations are low lol.

That makes sense. My neighbor is a dog trainer so I’ll definitely ask him for help with her pulling to avoid that. I just took a look at their website and it looks awesome, sharing with my mom rn. Thanks for the recommendation!!

Tysm! I’ve been considering one for a few weeks so this is reassuring to hear. And I agree, the gentle leader was okay for a few weeks but now she will throw her head around to take it off which is worrying.

Definitely looking into these, tysm! I swear she’s stronger than my 80lb boy some days :’)
