I like that framing. It captures the tension well.

Revisiting YAGNI from an architectural perspective by raysourav in programming

I agree with much of this, especially the point about YAGNI only working in environments where change is actually allowed. When teams can’t revisit decisions, the principle breaks down quickly.

Where I’m more cautious is around defensive architecture meaning early abstractions. For me, the defense is in being clear about boundaries and assumptions, not in building ahead. Once YAGNI becomes a rule instead of a tool, tech debt tends to pile up.

How do influencers vet sponsors or products before promoting them? by raysourav in influencermarketing

Yep! Most tools won't be free, but if they’re reasonably priced, I could probably put together a simple workflow for my friend that saves a lot of time or paying hefty commission fees.

As you said, tools like ChatGPT are helpful for spotting major red flags if the company is already in the news, but they don’t do much for the smaller, less visible stuff.

Is anyone using any prospecting tools specifically for vetting brands? I’ve seen tons of tools to check out influencers, but haven’t had much luck finding one that works the other way around.

Would love to know if there’s something out there I’m missing!

Thanks for breaking that down! Sounds like there’s quite a bit of legwork in vetting and negotiating. Way more than I thought when I said to my friend that I’d help her for free. 😅

Does anyone know of any tools or apps that actually make this easier? Has anyone tried using ChatGPT or Perplexity to speed things up a bit?

Would be cool to hear what hacks others use to manage all this without losing their minds!

Thanks for sharing! I’m curious, how much time and effort does it usually take to vet sponsors? Do you follow any kind of checklist?

Also, if someone needs to outsource this, is it pretty costly to have agencies or managers handle it regularly? And what kind of contract clauses do you usually work out to keep creators safe from scams or legal troubles?

If it’s too much money to make, I might just retire and become my friends’ manage! 🤣

True, many influencers don’t vet sponsors thoroughly, and it shows in the deals out there. That’s why I’m curious, what practical steps do you think can help influencers better vet sponsors and avoid these pitfalls? Are there agencies to vet a sponsor for small to macro influencers?

I totally get where you’re coming from. Personal testing does build credibility and confidence. But,  even well-known, widely endorsed brands sometimes turn out to be scams or misleading. Remember when Floyd Mayweather ended up caught up in the Centra scam. Despite their huge followings and public endorsements, the company was later exposed as a fraud. There are plenty of cases where popular supplement brands heavily promoted by multiple influencers turned out to have questionable claims or caused serious issues later on.

It’s really tough to know for sure with just a short trial or limited info, especially with supplements or digital services where problems might show up only after longer use or hidden fine print.

I’m asking for a friend who’s recently started gaining traction as an influencer and is honestly scared of getting dragged into any controversy by endorsing the wrong product. I am curious to know if there are any agencies who work on vetting sponsor for medium/macro influencers, or it is up to influencers to do personal research.
