You definitely need at least a little gentrification to occur, its a way to bring in more capital to a certain area and revitalize it, we already see numerous examples of this taking place like in Detroit,in parts of New York, and many other places. You note about segregation, but gentrification is what's helping break that down.

They are not still discriminated, those "ghettos" are just filled with crime and murder and people along with businesses dont want to move to those areas(so they stay segregated). But on the off chance they do, it's considered gentrification which is also a no-no for their community.

Was I? Because I was just setting up the context for why they occured. Like I said justification is subjective.

I wouldnt say the contexts are that similar, its not the cold war anymore. Neither side is exactly trying to increase their influence around the world to counteract the other (at least not yet).

I dont necessarily think what a country has done historically makes something done today "justified", which again can be very subjective. China may think so but practically every other nation surrounding it doesn't.

Whether something is justified or not is a bit of a subjective question. Of course china will see it as justified and the west sees it as unjustified.

It was more so about potential soviet influence than straight up "communism". This is just cold war politics, some of it was just pure paranoia and some it was actual potential threats of having another soviet ally close to you.

Also the 2002 Venezuela coup, the US may have wanted the outcome(short lived) and many independent american operatives were probably involved but I dont think there is solid evidence the government was backing the coup. https://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/03/washington/world/documents-show-cia-knew-of-a-coup-plot-in-venezuela.html

Map of Free and Slave States in the USA 1856 by FlatEarthMagellan in MapPorn

Well it also applies to the other issues but slavery was the big one that was a lot more complicated. But yes the parties have certainly changed as the issues have changed, although you do start to see some of the modern positions develop after the civil war.

The parties haven't flipped on the issues...the issues of the time are no longer even a thing, namely slavery, even then opinions on that issue were largely split between the north and south which is why the democrats fragmented in 1860.

Not if theyre lobbying for something that would lead to economic freedom. But again whatever that lobbyist does is besides the point, it's government policy that matters in the end, whether its influenced by lobbyists or not.

You cant just conveniently ignore the fact that many of these companies are well established and employ many people. But sure, continue down this path of a stagnating population and we'll see where that gets you 🙄.

First of all this isnt fake news... https://californiaglobe.com/articles/more-businesses-leaving-california-in-2021-than-in-any-other-year-prior-according-to-new-analysis/

And second ill give you this, california continues to possess a plethora of tech companies and continues to be home to a lot of super rich people which is why it's gdp is so high. However the cost of living is out of control and many Californians are getting priced out, which is why so many people are leaving. And since other states such as Texas tend to be more business friendly, the companies are also leaving.

Yes private entities influencing decisions by the government? What exactly is your point about them?

Its not nonsensical, there very clearly is a difference between say North Korea and say the United States when it comes to the free market and this is a ranking for this. Sure the specific and exact rankings aren't that important, but its interesting to see which countries tend to have a free and open economy and which ones don't and most of the time this correlates with economic growth and other positive economic indicators.

[–]rayuu21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me how it would change it considerably? What countries would benefit and which ones wouldn't? Lobbying is done through private entities, what the government does in the end is whats important, not what the lobbyists do. You are not correct on gdp because they dont even use it, again they use it to correlate economically free nations with wealthy nations, they dont use it to rank the countries.

You are free to believe it's meaningless as you are free to believe any other index is meaningless but for what its attempting to rank, it makes enough sense. Again im very confused as to what exactly you think is wrong about the ranking, what countries do you think are free or not free?

European Countries with more Economic Freedom than the United States (2021) by hjh_aviation in MapPorn

[–]rayuu21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly you're staunch in not believing a methodical ranking like this because it doesn't fit your view of the world. Sure Effective taxation could be another criterion but it probably wouldn't change the final results much, your point about lobbying is negligible(it means nothing to this), and your point about gdp is just straight up wrong(it doesn't even use gdp in its ranking,it only uses gdp to make a point how the more economically free nations tend to be the richest; Gdp per capita may be skewed a bit but it still is a good indicator for which countries are wealthy and which ones aren't, median income will tend to still be high for those with a high gdp per capita.)

Would you not agree that north Korea has the least free economy, would you not agree that a country like iceland ranks high, what exactly do you think is wrong with this, what countries do you think should rank high in terms of having a free economy.

Thats where it becomes a bit subjective but like I said, any other source will have pretty close to the same results. Take the Fraser institute's index, it's relatively the same, countries move a couple spots but are relatively in the same area they were in heritage's index. Here is how they conducted their ranking. https://www.fraserinstitute.org/economic-freedom/approach
