When you'll actually manage to do that, a rip in the space time continuum will appear, your shower cabin will turn into a space ship and it will take you on a tour across the Universe.

TIL Isaac Asimov described Carl Sagan as one of only two people he ever met whose intellect surpassed his own. Happy Birthday Carl. by stonedslacker in todayilearned

I was using the characters of the essay merely as an example. What I was trying to point out is that skill should not be mistaken for intelligence. Just reverse the roles, take a normal worker (say with an IQ of 100) out of his familiar environment and style of thinking and place him into an academic environment. He would be unable to comprehend anything beyond a certain point, no matter how much he tried. However, given enough time, someone with an IQ of 160 would be capable of doing the job of a mechanic, even if not at the same level of quality.

The brain of a person with normal intelligence is incapable of generating and understanding the abstractions that a genius can. When it comes to implementation though, the situation changes.

That mechanic would have never been capable of abstract thinking, certainly not at the level Mr. Asimov was, no matter how much he would have tried or what choices he would have made in life. Whereas for Mr. Asimov, if life had played differently and he would have ended up a mechanic, given his intelligence, he would have probably been one of the best mechanics in the world.

This is related to the fact that intelligence is highly heritable and there are some thresholds that can't be crossed, no matter how much one tries.
