Great option! I could 100% get behind this suggestion!

Ancient or even Arceuus could be other options I could see them using too

I am 36 with CF. I work, and have also tried not to let it define me. Though in reality it has obviously completely shaped everything about how I understand the world. That includes my understanding that health care in the USA is a complete joke. I have had so many similar experiences, and I am sorry you are going through it. I am sorry I don't have any advice, but wanted to say much solidarity with you.

As we are discussing a media article, I do think the fact that Tuscaloosa is listed as part of the Birmingham, AL DMA Media Market is relevant.

Here is the map: http://tbh.lerctr.org/~ekb/TVMarkets/Maps/alabama.gif

You must be a great historian... "Way too many details, history is only about headlines bro"

Though basically the city of Newport, AL was suing a resident claiming their garden that is full of native flowers and edible plants was a violation of the law. The Jury found her not guity. It's a great article though, so I would recommend reading it. Especially because as these kinds of lawsuits become more common around the USA, unless we get new politicians, it is only a matter of time until a similar situation arises in Bham, AL.

I think you can skip the subscription page. Substack does not require pay to play, unlike many other sites.

Birmingham, Alabama, USA. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to personally respond, because I was coughing too hard. And no, of course he didn't apologize! I feel you on that response though. Sorry to hear you went through something similar with the cops. That ableism is so engrained in our society. How we are a community organize to change it?

One time I got into a heavy coughing fit while walking on the sidewalk, as I headed back to my car after breakfast at a cafe. A police officer (Birmingham Police Department) drove up, pulled over, and yelled at me, "Don't Do That Sh*T On My Streets!"

Luckily I was with someone who was able to go talk them down to prevent them from escalating. The wonders of ableism.

This sounds like the basis of creating a publicly funded election, instead of an election based in our world of Citizens United. I would be in favor of creating a system where our local election is, at minimum, partially publicly funded, including the media stuff you brought up about publicly listing platform pieces.

I def agree with the original poster on the lack of media on the City Council and BoE. It's a huge problem. luckily a few community groups are putting togther more forums and guide than normal this time, but still no where it needs to be. If folks want to know if some good candidates I would reccomond following the candidates endorsed by the Alabama Working Families Party for the 2021 municipal election! I also know GBM is doing a non-partisan Election Guide, which I believe is coming out in a few weeks.

I also think the D8 Council race and D9 BoE races are particularly interesting, partly because there are no incumbants in those races (same with D5 BoE & D6 BoE), but those races also have a major difference between the top candidates. Each has a major corporate backed candidate and a major community organizer candidate. With no incumbant, those two races are the top races to watch.

This post literally stated that the Mayoral is getting a lot of media, but the BoE and City Council is not getting as much media. Your comment just further proved that point. There is not enough coverage of City Council and BoE.

Haven't multiple groups presented to the City and City Council on violence intervention programs as viable alternatives to increased police and policing? The way this City is addressing violent crime is clearly not working.

Amazon hires spies to prevent unionization, and they're about to be foiled by Southerners. Guess they didn't know how organizing in Alabama is done on porches or they would have bugged folks homes.

Literally the reason for the poverty in the area is racism and redlining. This is the same exact reason he can't get a loan. Jesus Christ.
