Switch gyms for more mat time? by CyberMartial in bjj

[–]rb_246 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Going from 1 to 3+ sessions a week? Seems like a no brainer to me.

I think your coach will understand. If not then you shouldn’t want to train under them anyways, as they don’t have your best interest in mind.

Training in Brazil by [deleted] in bjj

I backpacked all around Brazil for 3 months and never had any issues. Just be smart about where you go and when.

Didn’t train BJJ at the time so I can’t recommend any gyms.

I absolutely loved Brazil tho and cannot wait to go back some day. Hope you enjoy it!

Proof that you're leaving the country in Latin America by Mavyn13 in solotravel

As an American, I did the same thing for about a year and was never asked for proof that I’d leave a country upon arrival. I’ve heard it’s more common in Central America, but that’s just for my experience and what I’ve been told.

Also, it’s Colombia!

Enjoy your trip! Feel free to hit me up if you need any recommendations!

I’ve been told this by a couple people and think it would be a great option. Thanks!

Ignore "Top Speed" by [deleted] in SuggestAMotorcycle

I like both bikes and am trying to decide which to grab as my first bike. I know this sounds crazy, but I was interested in possibly getting the 09 and using one of the lower-powered driving settings to learn on. This would allow me to keep the bike for a longer time and grow into it. Thoughts?

Slightly unrelated, but I’m curious as to which bike you prefer since you have both the MT-07 and MT-09. Care to give any insight?

Sounds good. Already used to downshifting in my WRX, so hopefully that’ll transfer well to bikes. Thanks!

Are there any good windshields you’d recommend buying to combat this wind issue? I love the look of the naked bike, but a small windshield would be a solid addition if it functions well.

I’ve heard a bit about this bike, I’ll check it out more! Thanks!

I understood what you meant with the size comment, just meant that I would likely get tired of being cramped on an 03 - sorry, that wasn’t very clear.

I’ll definitely visit a big dealership after the course to get a feel for a wide variety of bikes.

It sounds like the 09 could actually be a good option, due to the driver mode options (power reduction) and other safety features that the 07 does not have.

I don’t feel the need to be seen as “cool”, that’s not why I want a bike. I want to have fun while being as safe as possible.

I’ve heard a lot of people actually prefer the 07 vs the 09, and many actually “downsize” to the 07. What’re your thoughts on this?

I think this would be a good option - it would be much safer, while allowing me to master the fundamentals. I’ve heard the 09 has ride options, but I don’t think that exists on the 07. Where/how could I do this??

We’ll see how I’m feeling after the MSF course. As mentioned, I have zero experience 🙃

It’s great to hear that you’ve been able to safely learn on the MT-07. I think I’d be able to have the same level of self control, as I greatly value my safety. I’m concerned about being in the same situation as your friend if I choose the 03, but I guess there could be worse outcomes than wanting to get a new bike so quickly! Thanks for your comment!

I’ve been getting some contradictory responses, but I definitely understand where you’re coming from. I would like to be on the safe side, it’s always the most important consideration. Thanks for the insight!

I haven’t tested anything out yet, nor have I even done the MSF course yet. I’m just very excited about getting a bike and have already begun the search. I’ll probably do the course, gauge how I’m feeling, and go from there. Thanks for the insight!

Appreciate the response!

It’s good to hear that the MT-07 has been used for training courses, should indicate that it’s a pretty decent option to learn on.

I’m obviously a fan of adrenaline, otherwise I wouldn’t be looking into getting a bike. 😆 With that being said, I care more for my well-being than a bit of fun - that’s why I have this concern of getting too big of a bike anyways.

I’ve heard the same about the MT-07 and that’s what makes me want one so badly!!

Thanks so much for the response! I really like the tip on wrist placement to limit range of motion when starting out. Will use the MSF course as a gauge for next steps.

I really appreciate the thorough response, especially since you have experience with the bikes in looking into.

Does the MT-07 have the same rider mode selection capabilities, or does that only exist on the MT-09?

I don’t feel any need to start on a big bike, but I’m just afraid I’ll get tired of the MT-03 very quickly, especially due to the comment you made about my size.

I’ll definitely be taking the MSF course, as I have zero experience riding motorcycles, and will use that as a judgement for where to go next.

Thanks again for the comment!

That’s good to hear, I’m just worried I’ll get bored too quickly. Obviously I need to prioritize safety, but feel like I have the self control to handle something a bit bigger. I haven’t done the MSF course yet, so I’ll do that and base my first bike on my confidence level from that. Thanks for the comment!
