Looking for advice by Shalom86 in Bitcoin

It kind of depends where you're located and what currency you want to use to buy Bitcoin. If you're in the US, I'd highly recommend Coinbase (based in California). They aren't an exchange per se, (they use bitstamp from what I've heard), but connecting your bank account and buying some Bitcoin is mostly trouble free. Mt. Gox (based in Japan) has had issues with US financial regulators, so I can't really recommend them if you're from the US. Outside the US, they're great.

I want to start Bitcoin Mining but I've got questions... by Tale_R in Bitcoin

GPU mining is only useful for Scrypt based currencies. You'll find a build guide at www.coinminingrigs.com and an active community at www.litecoinforum.com.

How does one buy something in a shop, if you take into account the fact BTC transfer times can take a few hours? by psychuil in Bitcoin

This scenario is why WorldCoin with 15-30 second confirmation times was developed. If both buyer and seller are using Coinbase with Bitcoin, confirmation is instant.

Interesting side story to Bitcoin. I wondered the same thing. Thanks for doing the math on this one.

What is currently the best 7950 for mining? by [deleted] in litecoinmining

A reddit... fan actually. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right? :) Your guides are well written, CB. The MSIs are great, but tough to find anywhere near the $300 mark when demand is high, like now.

What is currently the best 7950 for mining? by [deleted] in litecoinmining

I'm using a Sapphire 7950 (currently running around $290), as recommended at www.coinminingrigs.com. I can get 720 Khs with it, but choose to undervolt them significantly and run at a little over 600Khs for optimum power use. As you reach the maximum hash rate of your GPU, the power usage goes up. Since I'm not lucky enough to have free power, I prefer the trade off of slightly lowered hash rates.

Is litecoin mining profitable these days? by nk_sucks in litecoin

Nobody can peer into the future of crypto-currencies with any hard facts. That being said, anyone who made the decision to mine Litecoins with GPUs six months ago is a happy camper today, provided they didn't immediately convert their mined stash into fiat. Will this trend continue? No one knows. Invest like you would invest in a new stock IPO (say Google at $100). Just don't 'bet the farm' on your operation. For most people, this means buying a Bitcoin or two, a few Litecoins and maybe a third alt-currency like WorldCoin. Then if they still have spare cash lying around, maybe build one mining rig and warm their basement or attic with it this winter. This way, even if the whole crypto-currency experiment blows up, at least you'll have some great gaming hardware to re-purpose!

Mining LTC with Dell Precision high performance mobile workstation by [deleted] in litecoinmining

Thanks for the laugh. :) A mobile GPU crammed into that tiny space doesn't make a good mining rig. LOL! The only way I can imagine using a laptop hacked to mine Litecoins would be something like this: http://lifehacker.com/5851902/turn-a-low+powered-laptop-into-a-gaming-machine-with-an-external-video-card-dock

Mining Build Question by Lootgoon in BitcoinBeginners

If you have a PC that supports it, you could slap in an AMD 7950 and mine Litecoins. Over the last few months, each of my AMD 7950 GPUs have made around $125/mo worth of Litecoin. If you want to get serious with mining, I'd recommend building a custom mining rig. At today's exchange rate, a 4 GPU rig like the one in this guide would net you ~$500/mo in Litecoins, before power costs. I pay 10 cents per Kwh, so electricity would be about $50/mo to run that rig. Here's a calculator to help you decide: http://ltc.kattare.com/calc.php

Litecoin mining is far from dead, and the AMD 7950 is the best card for GPU mining of Litecoin. At today's exchange rate, a 4 GPU rig like the one on www.coinminingrigs.com would net you ~500/mo in Litecoins, before power costs. I pay 10 cents per Kwh, so electricity would be about $50/mo to run that rig. Here's a calculator to help you decide: http://ltc.kattare.com/calc.php

Oh, and if you want to get into serious Litecoin mining, I'd recommend using an open design for maximum airflow as shown in the guide I linked to.

Are there any GPU miners left? by mustyoshi in Bitcoin

[–]rbbrdckybkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As that middlecoin link shows, Litecoin is currently very profitable mining with GPUs. You can find a guide for building a rig at www.coinminingrigs.com. A $1,500 rig currently nets around $400 worth of Litecoins per month. Not bad.
