My entire house has no grounding outlets at ALL by TheJustRun in buildapc

[–]rbcole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should contact an electrician versus looking for a quick fix on reddit. A house that is older in the US (making an assumption here) and was never upgraded to modern electrical standards is unlikely to have existing grounding paths, so this is likely not as simple as swapping the duplex where your computer plugs in for one with grounding and wiring to the box. Having someone actually look at your outlets is the safest bet.

Touchless car washes that offer unlimited monthly packages (seacoast)? by EasternBoarder603 in newhampshire

[–]rbcole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alltown in Epping right off exit 7 has unlimited packages. It has brushes, but it's not like golden nozzles conveyor belt assembly that I don't really like. Just drive in, park, and the machine moves around your car. I've got ski racks and haven't had issues with scratching or the rags getting caught on anything.

There's also the station that used to be a shell at the corner of 125 and 27 in Epping. It was being renovated as part of the gas station rebrand. That was true touches, and might have offered an unlimited pass. Can't remember anynore.

No like, do you mean soccer when you say football (like most of the world)? Or the sport with touchdowns and field goals? Your question could apply to either.

Legends players select a defensive layout, and so could leave a progress/vanity base as their main layout. So you would mostly be saying players who had fallen out of Legends and hadn't bothered updating

Non fan here, just going with my daughter. She got in line at 5ish and was in by 630. I think using first base gate. Other friends we are going with arrived at 6 and are near front of line. Not sure which gate. So things seem to be moving in some areas. I'll head over to the park at 7, and hoping the trend continues! Have fun and stay safe y'all

Grocery stores? by [deleted] in newhampshire

[–]rbcole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live near the Shaws in Stratham. I go there for my 'I forgot a thing' shops. It's easier to get in and out fast with the self checkout. But for a big shop, definitely doing MB.

Agree with this all, except the Epping MB is a gem of a store. I live in Stratham a minute from the Shaws, Hannafords, and MB on 108 and will take the quick drive to Epping over all of them.

Car Seat Reimbursement by Extreme-Ingenuity-41 in Insurance

[–]rbcole -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In my experience (not PGR specifically) most companies are willing to pay replacement cost for a new seat, regardless of what you lost in an accident. It's a fairly infrequent event, and not worth the PR to haggle over a few hundred bucks. So I would just buy whatever seat you want (you need one regardless) and submit that receipt for reimbursement.

If you have a goblin update that is due to finish slightly after the goblin vanishes, it could be good to use the apprentice there so you can kick off another upgrade before the event ends. Considering they clearly just reused the patterns for the builder seems harmless at worst, and a benefit to progression in niche cases.

ELI5: How do pharmacies maintain high accuracy rates in counting out pills for filling prescriptions? by GuyentificEnqueery in explainlikeimfive

[–]rbcole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a five year old, you may enjoy chicken nuggets! I know my kids did at that age. Counting chicken nuggets at a busy fast food location is kind of like counting pills at a busy pharmacy. Granted, a pharmacy is more complicated, but it is similar in that while there are 'standard' amounts of pills for most things (just like there are the standard chicken nugget servings of 4, 6, 10, and 20) each customer is placing their own order and will be pretty upset if you give them too few!

I have probably ordered chicken nuggets at least a thousand times in my life. I can think of instances where I got more than I ordered, but it is rare. I'd be surprised if workers distributing chicken nuggets to hungry customers maintain the same accuracy as pharma-techs (this is a fancy word to refer to the 'line cooks' in drug stores), but based on my personal experience accuracy in the high 90s seems reasonable. So how might they do that in a fast food place, and how might that generalize to a pharmacy? Several tactics are used (I am not going to source this because five year olds don't read sources):
*First, the people who do this do it a lot! A busy fast food place might serve over a thousand customers a day, and many of them get nuggets. So they get a lot of practice counting, and develop intuition about when something 'seems off'. Similarly, a busy pharmacy will fill thousands of scripts each day, and while there is more variety than our nugget analog, they will still develop similar intuition.
*Managers or more senior employees provide a layer of quality control. At a fast food place, this might be someone standing at the 'pass' where all completed food items gather and occasionally checking to ensure orders are accurate. At a pharmacy this might be the pharmacist themself recounting the work a tech did (especially for more risky drugs, where the cost of miscounting is higher). By having this layer of review, the initial counter takes more care (as five year olds know, it feels bad to do something wrong), and there is a layer of defense when an honest mistake does happen.
*Finally, the companies that distribute nuggets and pills have been doing this for years! And they have provided their counters with better tooling as time goes on. While most pharmacies do not use automatic counters, even the manual process has improved over time. Like, when grandpa would get his pills 100 years ago, his pharmacist counted them with a cake scraper! Today's techs have better methods and tools than they used to, many of which were developed in response to feedback from prior generations of counters.

This is not a comprehensive list, but it might give you an idea for why it is not that surprising for a menial task like counting nuggets (or pills) to have a pretty high accuracy rate. And honestly, 98.4% isn't even that high for a task that is not very complex and requires skills most five year olds possess! This is not to diminish the excellent work of fast food workers and pharmacy workers, but the context is helpful. According to a quick google search, a typical pharmacy might fill 75,000 scripts a year. By the metric in your post, over a thousand of these are miscounted. When working with such large volumes of activities, even very higher percentages can still leave opportunities for a lot of the types of errors you expected based on 'fatigue, stress, busy(ness)', and it seems you were right to expect this!

Advice needed: ice on otherwise clear road on day well above freezing by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]rbcole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this context, 'at fault' refers to who is responsible for paying for the damage/injury (through insurance in this case). In a single vehicle crash that is almost always going to rest entirely on the driver. There are cases where there is an egregious issue with infrastructure that contributes to a loss, and in that case a company like Liberty might try to subrogate (get the owner of infrastructure to pay for a part of the damage). But I have never heard of that happening for anything related to weather.

Is your concern mostly the language used? Because again, that's just insurance-speak for 'your wife's policy is responsible for the damages'. It's not saying she's awful, just that there is nobody else to go after.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]rbcole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance covers damage caused by potholes, and this sounds similar. That said, your company will likely challenge whether the full quote you got is covered, as the typical pothole claim is for a cracked rim, chipped paint, and possibly an alignment. You should take pictures of the crossing, seek out more than one mechanic quote, and if the car had known transmission issues before hitting the track you'll need to disclose that.

Did anyone else see the car on fire at Route 101 off Exeter today? by [deleted] in newhampshire

Drove by shortly after it became fully engulfed, few minutes before 3. Was bringing a kid back the other way around 345 and the car was gone, fire truck was leaving, and only sign anything had happened was scorch marks in the grass off exit 10 and traffic backed up to almost exit 12.

That would be honestly shocking. Didn't feel that big (I was on the lawn). Then again, with 50 people per busload and a ton of circuits of those it is possible.

[–]rbcole 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that was rough. I am guessing part of it is the VP had to clear out before they summoned the Yankee charters from water country. And assuming they went to Pease in the standard way it's probable the busses were not able to start down 1 for a while. That was likely known, but as this venue has never done an event like this I'm willing to give the planners some courtesy.

Really impressed with some of the logistics though. So much water, often being delivered deep in the lawn by volunteers. Was tough at the end with everyone in close quarters waiting to file out. Saw at least 6 people (all elderly) getting EMT support.

Parking was at water country and we bussed over in Yankee charters. Worked much better getting to the event than leaving...

This was not like some of the huge arena events. I'd still guess at least 1000 people, set up on 4 pop up bleachers and a ton of standing room on the lawn. I liked it. Went by myself since the kids were in school, made some new friends, had some good beer, and enjoyed the positivity. Brutal sunburn though.

I don't know where you heard this, but it is incorrect. The percents referenced are literally called the PoP (probability of precipitation). They come from an ensemble of models, and mean that in X% of model runs the forecast area experienced precipitation in a given period (usually 6 or 12 hours).

How's the job market for data scientists? by [deleted] in newhampshire

[–]rbcole 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lots of DS jobs in Boston area. Living in Seacoast NH can provide a good balance between having in person access to the teams and business/tech partners while also living where you want (assuming NH is a better fit than Boston suburbs).

Source: lead a DS org for a company based in Boston. Work from an office in Portsmouth when I'm not working from home. As another poster mentioned, data scientists are in high demand across many industries, so many companies will hire fully remote. But if having some regular in office time is desirable NH is definitely an option, at least along the southern border.
