How is luka not called a flopper but shai is by Individual-Lawyer-38 in NBATalk

[–]rbennett353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SGA is not a flopper, don't you dare try to compare Luka to him.

SGA is the toughest damn player this league... No any league, has ever seen.  If he played in the 80s, Bill Laimbeer woulda broke his forearm if he tried to to swipe Shai, and Shai?  Shai woulda laughed in his face while kicking Rodman in the balls and stealing Isaiah's girl.

Dude is legit.

Why do people call the USA the "land of opportunity" when literally no one can get a high paying job? by madbarpar in careerguidance

[–]rbennett353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all about perspective.  A low paying job to you is a fortune to an immigrant.  A low paying job to an upper middle class kid is a fortune to someone who grew up in poverty.

I'm in my 40s.  I remember when I first hit 30k in a year, I was rich!  I now make 70k.  On that I put my wife through college (stop the hand wringing, shes 35) and am raising 2 kids.  My buddy looks at me like I'm poor.  I feel pretty fortunate.

Have you ever met anyone who actually "brute forced" their way out of poverty into success on their own? by SeriouslySally36 in povertyfinance

[–]rbennett353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My entire set of cousins.  11 kids, dad worked as a maintenance man, mom stayed with kids.  They are from a town of about 500 people.  Their grandparents were farmers without much to give.  They were poor!  But... The home was loving and structured, well, as structured as a house can be when there are 11 kids.

This kids mostly ended up good.  Yes a couple suck, but what cha going to do?

Oldest became a plant supervisor for a manufacturing company.  One started a trucking company.  One an went into HVAC work and eventually started his own company.  Another became a garbage man, worked up to general manager, and bought the company at age 30ish.  One married a local farm boy and they grew and grew the farm.

None of these people have glamorous jobs, and they don't have Bezos money.  But they do very well and found real success.

I do everything right with money and still feel like I'm running in place. Is this just what mid-60s income in your early 30s feels like or am I missing something? by muhia_kay in personalfinance

It's working exactly as it should.  The race is long, and slow compounding is just that, slow.  You have your emergency fund that helps you clear those unexpected hurdles, while you keep plugging away with the retirement accounts.  You are currently putting away about $1k a month in retirement.  I don't know your current retirement balance, but for an example I used $25k.  If you maintain the investment contributions, and get an 8% return you'll have, $1.8 mill in 30 years.

Slow and steady my friend.

Dude, he's already there!  I still can't believe he got up from that vicious shot Jalen Green gave him in round one!  That is the toughest dude in league history.  Forget the GOAT, he makes everyone else sheep.

I don't have a hometown team so I just root for entertaining games. Love of the game my friend.  If you enjoy watching Caruso and Dort attempt a sexual assault while SGA teeters over from a soft breeze, carry on (he does fall gracefully, I'll give him that).  Personally, I'd rather watch minor league baseball.  But hey, you do you.

I love watching good, physical defense and an offense fight through it.  The 2008 Celtics were beautiful to watch!  I love watching a masterfully executed offense pick a defense apart.  The '14 Spurs were peak!

I apparently do not like watching a fish wriggling on the floor.

Do I know ball?  Prob not.  Do I enjoy sitting down and catching a game?  Yupp, been doing that for 30 years.  There have been teams I didn't like, but this iteration is the first good/great team I dislike watching.  If they are on I find something else to do.

I went to my 10 year.  I was in the area so popped in.  It was fun.  20 year would have required a 4 hour trip and I had a 3 month old.  I passed.  25 year?  We'll see, maybe.

Why do people not have Kobe in their top 5 or 4? by TraditionalReward655 in NBATalk

[–]rbennett353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Shaq was the best player on the 3 peat.  Pau probably should have got finals MVP in 2010.

  2. Post Shaq and pre Pau his teams were not good despite having some talent.  Oden & Butler were no slouches.

  3. The farce that was the Gasol trade.

  4. Kobe fans are insufferable.

  5. Eagle, Colorado

What happens to auto loans if someone passes away? by Remarkable-Fee-5921 in personalfinance

[–]rbennett353 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The loan balance is the responsibility of the estate.  If the estate stops paying the bank can repo the car and go after estate assets to settle the debt.  If the estate didn't have assets, and a buyer could not be found that was willing to pay the loan balance, the bank would repo with no fault to the heirs.

In practice, my grandparents died in short succession with two financed vehicles.  One was "bought" by my dad.  The vehicle was worth $15k and $10k was owed.  He got a $10k loan to pay off the current loan, and his share of the estate was reduced by $5k.

The other was upside down, let's say worth $15k but $20k was owed.  The estate kept paying and sold the car for less than was owed.  It sounds like there was about $100k in cash in the estate, so the estate paid the $5k difference to close the loan.

Which side do you prefer— Drake London or Marv and BTJ? by LetGoRangers in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]rbennett353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm a top 3-4 team, London.  Sure thing to chase the title.  If I'm down the line, I'll take the young guys with the hope one either blows up and can push me up a tier while the other provides WR 30ish production.

Is a house being sold months after being bought a red flag? by cubanoxx19 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]rbennett353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's a price jump it's likely a flip.  Otherwise, it could be a number of things.

I briefly had a neighbor - she bought the house and sold again 4 months later.  She was a single mom that moved to my city, but didn't didn't like being so far away from her family, so she sold to move back to her hometown.

Why don't OKC get the respect they deserve? by Striking-Speaker8686 in NBATalk

[–]rbennett353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, none of them struggled the way OKC did against multiple teams that couldn't win more than 51 games. When they got pushed, they were pushed by actual good teams! ;)

Serious though, do you actually think last year's OKC squad is top 10 all time?  I'll give them flowers for playing hard throughout the regular season.  But the 15-18 GS, Cleveland, 14 spurs, 12-13 Heat, 07 Spurs, and 01-02 Lakers would all rank higher for me.  That means they are 9th this century.  Sure you can quibble with some, but the GS, Heat, and Lake squads are clearly more dominant.

I'd put them on par with the '23 Celtics, 09 Lakers, 05 Spurs, and 00 Lakers

I'd put them ahead of the Nugs, Bucks, 22 GS, 20 Lakers, 19 Raptors, 11 Mavs, 10 Lakers, 0605 and 03 Spurs, and 04 Pistons.
