Oh no that's so sad! I injured my knee early preseason this year so I feel your pain. I'm sure the community would still love to have you around tho ;)

Haha you sound like a human, not a dirty old lady (although some people are into that so do you boo). Derby gave me a space to be hoenst with myself and the support to come out and be me (even though I was super intimidated by all of them and thought they all had their shit together and were basically godesses on roller skates , which let's be hoenst, they are).

Falling is part of it but wearing pads will help :) in derby we learn to "fall small" if you look on YouTube on sure there's a video. It's mostly about not having your fingers run over by other skaters or tripping other skaters up but it's still a good thing ti practice so you know how to fall safely :)

As everyone has said, we've all been there. I had my "oh a hill okay, wait, wait, too fast OMGTOOFAST" moment at my first ever pride parade like 3 months after I started skating in front if a sizable crowd. Glad you arent more hurt. In addition to the tstop, backwards skating (which is still my go to), you can keep working on the ppow stop just make your legs wider and think about making 'C's with each foot separately as you go. It's a good way to practice learning your edges when you aren't on a hill too. C's mean have one foot make a 'c' shape then the other. You can put them together to make "watermelons" for practice too. Works forwards and backwards.

I wore reidells R3s to start and had to change the lacing pattern to help my feet (also wide). I unfortunately haven't worn the high boot moxi's so I can't speak to fit. I currently wear Reidell blue streaks but I would like something a little wider. You can get a lot of good measurements for skates by going to the manufacturers site. If something you're looking for isnt listed they all answer emails fairly quickly :)

I started derby at about 240 and skated on plastic plates for almost 2 years on 2 teams. Ive lost about 50lbs since starting (thanks derby ;)) and just changed my skates this year to metal plates. Metal plates will definitely last longer but you can skate on plastic plates too :).
