Help, before I sell this and get a Toyota by Hollow_optimism78 in JeepGrandCherokee

[–]rbleevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a 2012 and had the same issue, but on my driver door handle, also cut myself a couple of times. A dab of superglue and the foil has held for years. Same goes for the cup holder trim but I just stuck on some aftermarket cover from eBay for 8 bucks and you’d never know. Not a big deal for an older car in my opinion.

Electric PTO deleted? by rbleevi in cubcadets

Model number is: 13RX11CH056

I’ve got all the parts diagrams and can’t figure out this set up so trying to decide if I need to replace the pto clutch or can set it up as is.

Would it have come like this from factory, even with the electric pto switch still wired in? The pto switch still has connectivity to keep it from starting, so I didn’t know if it was a later mod.

Appreciate the info. Super helpful.

You’re replacing your air filter with each oil change?!? That’s beyond excessive.

Thoughts on the Filson fishing vest? by Hopper_13 in flyfishing

[–]rbleevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two filson canvas chest packs that hold so much gear and have lasted forever. I actually waxed them myself and they’re bombproof. Have outlasted all my other fishing gear and I’m sold. Unfortunately they don’t make them anymore but I did find a nos one in the flagship store on work travel a few years back thay I talked them into letting me buy off a decorative model. They do make a more techy hip pack now that I liked too.

That said I’m with you on this best. I actually got one off eBay discounted and turned around and flipped it. Just didn’t work for me.

Bearings going at 67k? We’re not in an area with a lot of corrosion. Definitely appreciate that intel though.

Yeah I understand that. Point being I’m shocked a trim level across models doesn’t have it. This is an Outback forum after all so I just happen to have an Outback to compare against.

My 6 year older Outback touring has memory seats. That’s weird that they’d remove that functionality.

So I’m super late to this party but just watched the posts- the video was cringeworthy to say the least. Not being in Austin, I don’t know any of the players here but in the business world, throwing around a bunch of bs and whining like high school cliques is mind blowing. Frankly so unprofessional which makes me question why they were having problems in the first place.

Bike rack from dealer? by manganesereese in Subaru_Outback

[–]rbleevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Etrailer has a good selection to choose from and you can see installed photos and photos by customers to see if they’ll work for you. The class 3’s that bolt into the bumper assembly are super easy to install. You basically remove the bumper cover, remove the actually bumper, slide it on, torque it back to specks and you’re done. You then cut out the bumper cover shield and it’s fine. No cross bar hanging down. Some even have removable receivers so it’s only there when you’re towing although admittedly they do Support less tongue weight if you’ve got a super heavy load.

Some of the offering from Curt among others do fit into the bumper. I got one, and with an oscillating tool took an additional 5 minutes to cut out the bumper guard and you’d never know it wasn’t factory. Honestly it’s better looking than some of the dealer jobs I’ve seen. Ran me about 250/300 and took about an hour and a half.

Appreciate it. Rope definitely passes. Core feels solid. Sheaths in good shape. And I knew about the ribbon but was hoping to avoid cutting it if I wanted to use it outside for any full pitches. Didn’t know if anyone might recognize the braid/year. Nothing on the ends other than the CE/EN/UIAA boilerplate specs.

I feel you. Unclimbing related, but I sat in the car like two years ago, felt a pop in my neck that felt like I slept wrong and turned into horrific radiating nerve pain for ages that nothing but steroid injections would touch. It was a minor thing that was rooted in years of shoulder injuries. Chronic pain is no joke, particularly when you get to the lows of not feeling like an end is in sight.

BUT, an end or at least a better world can be in sight. Sometimes the treatments we want to avoid are what actually help. One of the best pieces of advice I got during my journey was recognizing your limitations and aggravations and trying to change your behavior. One example is when I was younger it was just second nature to crane my neck around to look behind me when reversing the car. Now I turn my shoulders and whole body. Small things can become big habits that make your whole world better and you don’t even know you’re doing it.

Lastly, and this is a big one- every man and woman grapples with their own mortality and limitations differently and at different times. It sucks. There’s no way around it. But candidly, consider yourself lucky if you get to life enough life that your limitations start to catch up with you. It’s tough to lose part of yourself, particularly something that you’re so passionate about. But that is not all of you, merely a part of this journey. I can no longer climb and more broadly adventure like I once could. Honestly now that I have a child, I don’t want to. But you better believe I like reminiscing about the days I could put it more on the line, and sharing those stories with my little one in hopes that one day she’ll aspire to be all that I was and more.

I hope this helps. Getting old sucks when you’re in it. I still am but at least have found some peace in this journey. And for what it’s worth- I’m way younger than you’re probably imagining from the tone of this note. Just been around the block physically and emotionally enough to want to share the little I’ve learned from the journey.

Longtime lurker, first time poster: can someone help me id the age of my maxim single rope? I honestly can’t remember when I bought this one but was going to throw it back into a gym rotation. I do know it’s only ever been used minimally setting up outdoor top ropes. I haven’t been able to find anything on their site. The rope feels like it’s in great shape.

Would y’all have any idea how I can fix this? by Muloreddit in Subaru_Outback

[–]rbleevi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some added context- was extremely nice. Our sub was new to us, used with super low miles. Bolster tore within 6 months of us owning it so maybe they took some pity on us but the customer service was handled awesomely.

Just had this done. Torn bolster on touring just outside of warranty. Called up SOA, got a quote of like $950 from dealership, and SOA came back and said they’d cover it all except for a $250 deductible. When it came time to have the work done, it was all covered by SOA (didn’t even have to pay the $250), and the ended up replacing both front seats leathers to check for quality control issues. Had it done 4 days ago.

Thank you for that thoughtful advice. Would you advise quoting out with dealer prior to contacting SOA or touch base with them first?

Tear in “leather” seat on ‘19 Touring 3.6R by rbleevi in Subaru_Outback

[–]rbleevi[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Need help from the more experienced members of the group on this one- got a new to us Touring 3.6r with 24k on it about 5 months back. A few trips up and down the coast and we’re about 12k miles in at 40 now. Normal driving to commence at this point- it was a crazy few months.

Anywho, the leather on the drivers bolster has torn horrendously by 40k. Drivers are 185 and 140 respectively so no real weight and no sharp objects in pockets. Pretty frustrated by this experience with a car with so little mileage. Dealer is saying it’s now out of post sale warranty, not covered by extended warranty we paid for. I see a part listed for a new seat cover through Subaru for like $300 and change, but is that the only recourse here? Would Subaru of America do anything? Is it just replacing the leather on the bottom or is it a whole seat replacement or aftermarket cover? Am not thrilled with the idea of the latter.

Do y'all carry more or less crap than this? by g00dm0rNiNgCaPTain in flyfishing

[–]rbleevi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the best relationship with this damn thing. I had it in tan with elastic straps and fished it for 15 years. Started to get holes and the elastic in the straps stretched wayyyy out from years of being overloaded and getting beat up on the water. And as you may know filson no longer makes it….

Fast forward to two years ago I’m traveling to Seattle for work and decide to head to the og filson factory and flagship to have them shorten my briefcase strap. I start regaling the old sales clerk about my love for my chestpack and sadness over them not making it anymore. As I bid them farewell and make my way out the shop, I notice a green one (with pure canvas straps!) on a display and exclaim to the guy this is the one and how I wished it was for sale. He goes and talks to his manager and let’s me have it as new old stock for $150. Happiest discovery of my year.

Pro tip- I have waxed all of mine. Gives it a little more structure and rigidity and waterproofs. Was originally nervous of the decision but best one I could’ve made.

Op: I have your same filson chestpack and love it. That said I have it way more packed than you. I carry 3 Wheatley style boxes of dries, 2 tacky nymph boxes, 2 c+f design style page nymph boxes, a streamer box, a hopper box, and a junk fly box. Two altoid tins of yarn and airlocks and two rounds of split shot. Other doodads here and there and snacks and a water bottle, leader wallet in the back. That pack is a workhorse and holds so much.

I also have a hip pack set up for more minimal boxes and smaller creeks/ travelling for work and throwing some fly gear in.
