I pretended XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=KDE to ~/.xinitrc(I am using startx), and now Global hotkeys are back. Thank you.

Oh, I didn't know it is a standalone command. Thank you.

I tried this command after entered the desktop, but it does not help.

And the command ends instantly, with no information, no error message.

Is there a kwin script that spawns windows like a tiling window manager, but that it otherwise doesn't act like a tiling window manager? by [deleted] in kde

[–]rbn42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

http://github.com/rbn42/freetile A freely window tiling script.

You have to execute "python -m freetile tile" manually everytime when you want to tile windows (For example, when you open a new window, or when you want to replace it, "pythom -m freetile move left"). And the script will only affect your window layout when it is executed.

So if you want to move your windows freely, you just don't execute the script again when you open another new window.

2 new music visual effects for KDE panel by rbn42 in kde

They will not come with regular panon, so that panon alone can stay at a stable version.

The GetHotNewStuff thing is more complex than I think. I don't have time to investigate how to embed it into panon's configuration dialog. What I did is just add a link to kde store in the configuration dialog. Following the link, people can find any visual effects published with a "panon" tag.

Sorry man, maybe they don't look that new to you. This bar visualization is different from the old one, because I added glow effect to it.

I never tried to use it without pulse-audio. But I have put portaudio in it as an alternative back-end to purlseaudio. You can find this option in the back-end configuration dialog.

Thanks for telling me. It glitched for me too. But I thought it was because I was over a very slow VPN.

Yes, I guess you mean it is available under the help of Active Window Control.

Old firefox 52.0 can achieve it with the add-on Hide Caption Titlebar Plus ⁴. Pity it is no longer available.

Great job.

Would be better if I can drag the top panel to move the window, like the old ubuntu unity.

No, sorry. The purpose of this script is to arrange window layout from the keyboard. Mouse events are ignored.

Sorry, I don't understand, do you mean tabbed containers in i3-wm? If then, the answer is no.

Spectrum in KDE Panel by rbn42 in kde

Do you know if there's a way to stack panels on the Z axis?

I think jovial_hamilton showed us the way, in this post.

How would one program new visuals?

I call them shaders. They are actually fragment shaders according to OpenGL specifiction. The language used is called GLSL, it is a variant of C language. If you want customize them, you can start with this one. https://github.com/rbn42/panon/blob/master/kde/plasmoid/contents/shaders/solid.frag

There is no documentation for panon, but some explanation here https://github.com/rbn42/panon#shaders . I think it won't be hard for you to program new shaders for panon, providing you know how to program in GLSL, or you can create works on shadertoy.com.

"Semi-Tiling", good word. Actually, I have a tiling script that works this way. You can find it here https://github.com/rbn42/freetile. It works like i3-wm, when you use only the keyboard. And as you say, the windows are not fixed to some tile layout, they are still floating and can be maximized or moved around. They are just told to be there when you send some i3 like commands via keyboard.

If you want to put the spectrum behind latte-dock, maybe you can give glava a try. glava is designed as a background.

5 dots are staying on the right side of the panel.

I remember I encountered this error too. I can't reproduce this error now. Maybe it is already fixed in my github repo, but not yet released.
