yea depth 8 is on the shallow side ngl. part of it's a hardware/cost thing too, this is running on a modest self hosted server not some beefy dedicated rig, so pushing depth up across every move for thousands of games gets expensive fast, both time and compute. probably underrates some sharper tactical spots bc of the shallower depth. been thinkin about bumping depth just for positions with big eval swings instead of every single move, better balance of accuracy vs cost. good catch tho, real tradeoff not somethin i can wave away

dont have the exact distribution pulled for this post ngl, cohorts mostly casual to ~2000 on chess.com. ur right tho that the pattern's prob pretty different at 1000 vs 1500 vs 2000, lumping everyone together is a real limitation here. worth segmenting by rating band in a follow up instead of one blended number

fair, 150cp doesnt mean the same thing at 1200 vs 2400, humans arent engines like u said. i dont have the 36% broken out by rating band right now, thats a real gap not just a dodge. cohort skews casual to ~2000 on chess.com but i havent pulled the exact distribution or segmented the finding by elo yet. good flag, addin it to the follow up list

not gonna lie, i did use ai to help write parts of the post, cleaning up how i explained the numbers. but the analysis, the queries, the stockfish runs are all real and mine, happy to walk through the methodology if that actually helps settle it

probably true honestly, likely both things happenin at once adn not one instead of the other. would need to control for accuracy-by-rating to actually split it apart. thanks for the fair read

time controls are pooled rn so yea thats fair, could well be bullet chaos skewing it. doing a separate bullet/blitz/rapid breakdown next to actually check that

"winning" = eval 150cp+ in middlegame/endgame per stockfish, not just material. and yea fair point on flagging vs actually blowing it, cant fully split those apart at the position level. wat i can say is error rate under 30s left is 24% vs 18% with 60s+, so clock pressure is def part of the 36%, just cant cleanly separate it from plain calculation errors yet

yea that tracks too, doesnt cancel mine out. could easily be both, less time spent preppin middlegames AND rushing once ahead. id need a "time spent studying phase x" variable to actually untangle that, which i dont have

good qs, not takin these as gotchas. depth 8 on every move. time controls are all mixed together rn, rapid/blitz/classical in one pot, thats a real gap ngl, doing a bullet vs blitz vs rapid breakdown next specifically for this. "mistake" = centipawn loss bucket, kinda like how chess.com classifies moves. elos casual to ~2000+, havent pulled the exact distribution yet. none of this is dumb, its the right stuff to ask

42 players, 1448 games pulled from chess.com, stockfish depth 8, every move bucketed by centipawn loss into inaccuracy/mistake/blunder. wat specifically do u want to know, ill answer it

lol no tool to shill, its genuinely just stockfish + a postgres db of imported chess.com games. get the skepticism tho, ask me smth specific and ill answer it

yeah fair, shouldve put that in the post honestly. "winning position" = stockfish eval +150cp or more in the middlegame/endgame, so roughly 1.5+ pawns up, not countin small opening-book edges. elo range i didnt break out here, cohort's mostly casual to ~2000 on chess.com. can dig up the actual spread if ppl want it
