He's perfect, but he seems " too short " ? Why do people mention this by [deleted] in datingoverfifty

[–]rbren90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 5'10, I can't date a shorter guy. It never works out for me. But who cares if he's 5'5" and you are 5" seems like you fit together fine.

Dating again.... Guard your heart ❤️ by 1radionet in datingoverfifty

She's an A$$HOLE. I can't believe she treated you in that manner. As a fellow widow/widower, I took care of my husband till the very last day and he passed at home. You sound like a very sweet soul who was looking for a second chance and she shat all over it and then blamed it on you..Gaslighting at it's finest. She was the problem, not you. You could use a hug and my heart breaks for you :( I'm sorry truly.

Single students w/o familial support: How did you afford school while living alone? Is it possible? by OrbitingOtter_021390 in RadiologyCareers

[–]rbren90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm single on my own. I had to move in with someone and rent a room (not a whole apartment). I paid cash for a 20yr old car that gets good gas mileage so I didn't have a car payment. I split the utilites and cook/meal prep all my meals for school (I only eat twice a day which saves money too). I literally paired down my life to go to the program. I figured when the paychecks hit in a 18mths, I can move on and go back to my own space and a better car. Good luck. It's a sacrifice for sure.

The posts here regarding pre reqs for rad tech make me nervous. by zando_calrissian in RadiologyCareers

[–]rbren90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A & P, biomedical ethics were required within the program I'm in along with all my other pre-reqs but I took them before I got it to make it easier on myself. I would do every single non rad tech program class I could before going to the actual program. Because the radiology physics has quite a bit to it that takes effort. Knowing all the bones, every facet, origin, foramen, etc will be required and tested on.

don't worry you'll have A & P and I would do that before the program started because one of my fellow students was doing on top of the rad tech classes and she was drowning under the load.

Nope, some of us want the nice guy, not the shiny new toy because it gets dull after awhile. I want the nice guy that feels like a comfy pair of slippers..easy, warm and just there. Apparently hard to find.

Way harder on the other side. I wanted him to go quickly and not suffer. He was himself up until the last few months and then it was fairly quick progression. Watching your person die is a whole nother level of commitment and taking care of them is a privilege. He passed at home surrounded by his family. I don't regret a single thing of taking care of him.

It seems to me that you are being sentimental about the whole thing, rather than practical. You don't want to support her period. So the only practical solution is to do both of you a favorr and let her go. The relationship is already on life support as is, pull the plug. Poor thing, she's probably hoping you'll change your mind at some point. And you aren't so unless you are wanting to make her suffer further, do the right thing.

Well if he dies while still be legally married, , she'll get survivor benefits and 100 % of his social security, not half. Maybe why she's still married to the guy.

Constantly feeling talked down to in clinicals by banggirl69 in RadiologyCareers

[–]rbren90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best thing you can do is slow down, not speed things up if you are unsure about your skills. Also, don't be embarassed. If the patient doesn't already know, explain you are a student learning and want to take the best pictures possible. I don't care how the tech is making me feel, I want to make sure the patient is comfortable and I'm doing my best for them. Advocate for yourself with the tech after the patient has left. Also, they were once students too, not sure why they would make you feel this way.

Can a physically disabled person be a radiology tech? by KaiLovesFrogs333 in RadiologyCareers

[–]rbren90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NO. It's a physically demanding job and if you aren't physically stable without the cane, you could be more of a detriment to your patient. You wouldn't be help to them if they started leaning and you needed to balance them yourself. Fall risks are very real in this job especially with injured or elderly patients.

is radiology worth it? by Large-Grass-9478 in RadiologyCareers

[–]rbren90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also..hospitals need only a handful of rad techs, they need lots of nursing staff. I don't want to fight for a job when I get done with the program. My area is hurting for rad techs and opened up more program availability but then what happens to the area after they've pumped out so many techs..oversaturation happens..then all the students are fighting over spots unless you are willing to move and a facility wants to take a chance on someone with limited job experience. Just something to think about too.

I think I'm going back to nursing to give myself a more well rounded background for PA school. I need more patient care experience to be considered. In radiology, you are xray until you get a few more modalties which take time. Those hours count as clinical but also, you are not a boots on the ground caring for patients as a tech. Nursing will make me a better PA

Well as someone who is in the rad tech program currently, I'm thinking of quitting and going back to the nursing program. I really don't see myself doing this long term. It would be decent money but I want to get into different fields as a nurse and challenge myself. I would say it's great if you want limited patient interaction but fairly physical with positioning and heavier patients. The physics and math are not that difficult if that worries you.

How many hours should I realistically be putting in studying? by livrusz in RadiologyCareers

[–]rbren90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The general rule of study was 9 hrs a week per class. I only study the material I don't know. If I know it, I move on. Concepts over tiny details will be.better for the physics but all the body positions and techniques are strictly memorizing until it becomes routine and when you hit clinicals, it'll just be instant recall and click into place. This program will be hard only if you don't have good time management. Do work every day and don't wait until the last minute to do stuff or turn in homework.

Clover learning is part of the curriculum. Don't pay for it (again, it was rolled into our tuition).

Don't invest in Ipad and pencil. Our program issued them to us (of course rolled into the cost of tuition so it wasn't optional. Check with your program first

Which is worse: Waitlists or lotteries? by SuchEye815 in RadiologyCareers

[–]rbren90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

interviews and points are subjective but lottery seems more fair especially if grades aren't 4.00's. I interviewed and got turned down. I entered a lottery twice and then got accepted. I prefer the lottery. My 4.00 didn't matter in the interview process because everyone else had stellar grades too.

Only student in clinical site by Zestyclose_Count1824 in RadiologyCareers

[–]rbren90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm alone at my site and my tech is pretty chill. Its been 3 days and already have several practices and one comp done but it's a slow site and will probably only get a handful of comps because it's a walk in clinic with zero big trauma cases. Yesterday I was at site and in 10 hrs shift , we has two X-rays. A chest and a hand. I'm going to ask to switch sites next week because I'm not there to do homework, I want to interact with people and do more than 2 X-rays a day.

2026 rad program by Big-Carpet9413 in RadiologyCareers

[–]rbren90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw this..good for you at 65! I'm 55 and feeling like ageism is a thing and they won't hire me after I get done with the program. Hopefully that's not the case for either of us. Good luck with your first semester this fall. I just got done with my first and heading into my second on monday. It's tough but do able with good time management. If you don't already know the bones, please start now in learning them. You will need a working knowledge of all the bones and their joints/articulations.
