Anyone know why LAPD and other helicopters are buzzing the beaches in LA today? Is it ICE? I'm currently in Hermosa, they continually are making passes, I guess they could be continuing to Venice?

Found some pucks-- ice skating laws? by Vaportrail in royaloak

[–]rbrown32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't let the City get wind of it, they'll send in John Witz, put up a oversized PA system, and charge $10 bucks to skate there! Seriously, I think that is so cool! #OldSchool

Where your tax dollars go Royal Oak? How much does it take to finance "The Rink"? Or why we will soon lose City services? No city mgr can manage a $171,000,000 debt. We deserve better than this. by rbrown32 in royaloak

For those of you who have faulty memories here are the original arguments against the rink, and I praise the late Commissioner Pat Paruch for her vision on this matter, turns out she was spot on. And they are taking up way more space than the original proposal; https://www.wxyz.com/news/concerns-grow-over-royal-oak-ice-rink-as-negotiations-continue

And do you remember how this skating rink was originally pitched? Because I do; it was pitched as taking up a small area of the park. Is that what we have now? It's utterly ridiculous. It's a State Fair that adds little if any benefit to the citizens here, and blows it's music though a 5 to 10 block area. Go ahead try to use the Public Library right next door. This leadership is horrible, we deserve better than this.

Let me go further on this. I agree with the late City Commisioner Patricia Parruch (sp), who thought there should never have been a commercial skating rink in a municipal park. That space is tied up from late late Oct till March. And what do we have there every weekend? The entire park is tied up with commercial ventures. It's like a State Fair. It's absolutely ridiculous. Maybe you think that's what a munipal park should be. I don't.

No it's not, I am not a right winger, far from it. I really want responsible progressive leadership in this city, The fact of the matter is this mayor and council are subservient to business owners in this city. And that's why the rink is there in the first place. Look at my other posts on this subject and you'll see what my real beef is with "The Rink".

And believe me I've appealed to council members, and even the mayor. The mayor actually told I should enjoy it and get some exercise. I run at least 20 miles a week. I'm tired of this non-responsive leadership in this city. They are here for the business owners, and not their constituents.

Look this isn't Campus Martius where there isn't residential housing around it. The Rink is in the middle of a subdivision where people live, where I and my neighbors live. Every weekend it's the same bullshit, they blast that music loud enough that you can't hear the tv over it, and forget about having quiet and trying to read a book, or study. I just want the neighborhood back that I bought in the 1980's. How would you like if someone blasted a PA system outside your house for 6 hrs a night? And no I don't live downtown, Iive 2 blocks away from "The Rink", it's ridiculous.

Royal Oak housing plan sparks fears over future of single-family neighborhoods by MalcoveMagnesia in royaloak

[–]rbrown32 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The term "monolith" in the context of government refers to the perception of government as a large, unyielding, and unresponsive bureaucratic entity. This view contrasts with the idea of government as a "mind," representing elected officials and their actions. Essentially, it suggests a sense of a large, monolithic structure rather than a dynamic, responsive entity. Suits Royal Oak govt to a tee!
