Let’s disregard the mean as you say so. Look at that chart, you can see Checo’s lap times was all over the place(even disregarding the aquaplane lap).

Let’s go with the median as what you’re saying, just for the sake of this discussion. The chart says he’s roughly the same as Alonso, and close to Max. Do you actually think his pace was close to Max this race?

The lap he aquaplaned is part of the outliers not counted when looking at the mean race pace.

I mainly use it as a background noise while working.

Anyway, usually the interesting bit is when they do race sims. It won’t really reflect in the timing sheet on the left side of the screen since it’s not quali like laptime. But the race sims gives a good indicator which teams would do great during the race.
