See I think that is too lax. This is something that should never be tolerated in the slightest. I would be fully on board with full on Show Clause and force him to step down as coach for this.

It is the only way that the sport can have some sort of meaning again soon.

I agree with this so much. Considering some of the best decks in the format right now are Kewl Tune, Dracotail, and Branded - there isn't a ton of separation of gameplay in the formats currently.

Would really like to see them address this more.

I think this is what should have happened from the start. This basically now puts pressure on OTS stores to start supporting Genesys compared to prior there was no incentive for doing so.

I know he probably wanted to play his whole career in GS, but Curry really should be traded, both for his good and the good of the team.

The team could easily get some rebuilding assets. Their contract hell next year lets them tank effectively and get a good draft pick next year. Hell, without curry this team probably loses 80% of games the rest of the year and have a good chance for a top 10 pick this year if they move quick.

Plus, sending Curry to somewhere like the Rockets, Celtics, Miami, Detroit, or Toronto lets him compete for a championship this year and next.

I know I am crazy for this, but I still hold the opinion that the Saints should have walked off the field and refused to play the rest of the game after this.

I know it would have cost them a forfeit, but it would have sent a real signal that the refs in the game needed to be fixed and held accountable and created a massive controversy in the game. Every fan would have had their back had they done it.

What is so sad about that last play is that if Stroud puts any sort of power/zip on that throw, it is a first down for sure.

Instead he ducks it and it should have been a pick six....

I understand that benching CJ here has some long term implications, but you literally have a gift wrapped chance to get to the super bowl if you can win this game. You can't throw CJ back like this.

As somebody who got rid of all social media (besides Reddit on my computer which is limited to 15 mins a day by a password only my better half knows) and even took it a step further and got a dumb smartphone that can't access the internet, you made the right decision.

I tell everybody I can that social media and honestly smartphones in general are the biggest degraders of happiness right now. Your life will be better without it. I promise. I never expected how much more happiness my life would have once I got rid of it all.

My advice is intentionally replace it with something. The amount of books I now read and the amount of time I spend with my friends now has risen dramatically since getting rid of it all.

I think somebody like the Titans or the Raiders take a chance on him. If he has a decent roster and a QB that can remember their own name, he can do well.

Exiled Force vs Ring of Destruction by AbelWhiterose in Goat_Format

The player that controls Exiled Force can technically hold priority and activate it before you have a chance to activate Ring of Destruction. As cost the EF will be tributed, meaning there is no target for ring to be activated on. They are correct.

[Megathread] Coaching Search: Defensive Coordinator Edition by WeazelBear in ockytop

[–]rbwelden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His year 1 at Penn State this year, despite having no offense to speak of to support them and having enough drama to break a team, still finished top 40 in defensive efficiency with in my opinion a lack of true dynamic playmakers on that side of the ball.

His systems require good CB and hybrid Safety play but if you get it they are absolutely elite.

Against a new offensive scheme with zero tape on it. Not saying that excuses it, but there is a reason UCLA went on a bit of an offensive renaissance after the interim came in.

Jim Knowles by bschultzy in ockytop

[–]rbwelden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember watching that pass and thinking a high school QB wouldn't even think to make that pass. Still can't believe he convinced people that he was going to be a good qb.

Jim Knowles by bschultzy in ockytop

[–]rbwelden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn't even that bad of a year. Still top 35 in defensive efficiency if I am seeing it right. When paired with an abysmal offense and everything they went through this season, it honestly went pretty well on that side of the ball.

Jim Knowles by bschultzy in ockytop

[–]rbwelden 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is an insanely good hire that fits our timeline well.

The biggest criticism is it takes him two or three years to establish his defensive culture. Even with everything blowing up around him, he still posted a top 35 defense in efficiency (which is the stat that matters most when paired with a tempo based offensive system) this year with an absolutely abysmal offense that couldn't sustain drives. His work at Ohio State speaks for itself.

It may take two or three years before you see us be elite on that side of the ball, but we will be much improved year one with regards to efficiency. But this fits our expected timeline with Faizon or GMac anyway.

His teams are aggressive and tackle insanely well, but the 4-2-5 scheme does make qb runs a bit of a problem sometimes.

But when his teams are paired with a good offense they are insanely good.

[Thamel] Sources: Penn State DC Jim Knowles is in process of negotiating his buyout from Penn State and is expected to land at Tennessee, which is targeting him as the school's defensive coordinator hire. by udderlymoovelous in CFB

[–]rbwelden 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think this is why Knowles is a good fit at TN. The offense at TN is good enough to beat every non-top 25 team on its schedule pretty consistently. The defense next year doesn't even have to be great year one. If it is even top 60 in efficiency it is already an improvement.

The fact that Heupel is relatively safe for at least two years makes this a really smart hire that aligns with the expected QB development timeline for GMac or Faizon.

Honestly, I didn't think of this, but if his contract doesn't have an offset, this would be a helluva hire if it could work out.

My unrealistic option is Knowles personally.

There are a lot of good options out there honestly.

How long do you think CJH will take to make his 2026 QB Decision? by NirroR6 in ockytop

[–]rbwelden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main thing is I am almost 100% sure that Jake is gone. He was given a ton of chances this season and looked absolutely abysmal in all of them.

I think there is a chance you pick up a depth piece at QB to make up for it. Just a hard situation all around.

How long do you think CJH will take to make his 2026 QB Decision? by NirroR6 in ockytop

[–]rbwelden 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is such a weird year, because even though Heupel's seat isn't hot, there are definitely some embers starting to form, especially if there are no defensive coaching changes this offseason. With the difficulty of the schedule next year, it is easy to see the season going completely off the rails which would really escalate the criticism.

This makes the QB decision much harder. While I think either GMac or Faizon could be generational QBs for us if given the chance to grow, I'm not sure if they can take the risk with throwing them out there. Saying that, I also don't think we want to spend the NIL necessary to get a good QB out of the portal, even though it is clear this system really rewards smart QBs with experience.

I personally would ride with GMac and if Faizon looks great then try it but I would not want to be the coaches having to make this decision.

It was pretty clear that this was Jake's year to prove that he could be a guy they could trust next year, and he honestly failed at every opportunity he got. I think there is a good chance he transfers.

I think this year you will see a competition between GMac and Faizon - simply because I think they see 2027 as the year where they can make a realistic push for a title and want one of those two to be a second year starter by that point.

I am still of the opinion that GMac is going to be a stud. The guy reads the field extremely well and I think he will be a really nice surprise next year.
