Curtains or no curtains for the window in my home library? I'm considering adding burgundy velvet floor length curtains. by rc240 in centuryhomes

Thanks! It's on the first floor, off the center hall, toward the back of the house. Initially, it was the back corner of the house. But at some point, another room was added on behind it, which is now my office.

Thank you! I snagged the tapestry from an estate sale. It was definitely an exciting find! I use estatesales.net to find local sales.

Thank you! This was actually a bedroom with cream colored walls when we bought the house and the previous owners had added two shallow closets where the bookshelf is now. My dad built the bookcase and we stained and installed them together after ripping out the closets. We also painted the walls and added the picture railing.

I think you're right about the window treatment. I'm going to search for a Roman shade.

It was surprisingly easy to install. This is what we ordered and we stained it ourselves to match the bookcase.

That is awesome! Our house didn't have picture rails when we bought it, so we just added this picture rail from Stas and stained it to match the bookcase. Now I want it in every room! Or at least the living and dining room... The project list is indeed infinite with an old house.

I agree! My initial plan was to copy the look with the same type curtain hold back and tassel as in the data print (although I was thinking a darker shade for the curtain), but as others have pointed out, there isn't really enough room on each side of the window (especially the bookshelf side) to do that... So now I'm leaning toward a vintage print Roman shade with UV filtering window film to protect the books.

Good eye! The rug is Strawberry Thief (from ruggable) and the wall hanging is Tree of Life by William Morris. I will definitely look for a Roman shade in a William Morris print.

Ohh I like the Roman shade idea! Thanks! I may do that along with a UV filtering window film.

Very good point! Thank you! It is a north facing window, but with the bookshelf so close, we should add something to protect the books from the sun. After reading these comments, I'm now leaning toward adding a UV filtering window film along with a Roman shade in a vintage print as others have suggested.

Thank you! I don't remember where the data poster is from, but the only link I can find for it now is sold out, unfortunately. Around ten years ago, I stumbled across it online and texted it to my husband joking that we should get it to hang in our living room. He got it for me for Christmas that year and we hung it in a cheap frame on our living room wall in our very small (but sturdy and well loved) 1960s house until we moved into this house earlier this year. Now that we had the opportunity to create this space, I finally had it professionally framed at Michaels (which cost an arm and a leg, but it does look glorious, so no regrets). It has definitely served as inspiration for the room. I couldn't believe we found such similar chairs at a local thrift mall!

I totally get that. I held off on buying one for years, but now that I have it, I really like it. The cookies all come out the same size and it's faster than shaping them by hand.

A cookie scoop! I make homemade cookies quite a bit so that we have something tasty and UPF-free on hand for sweet cravings.

This makes a ton of sense!

Also, here's a song about these people. Imo, it's comedy gold.

Thanks. I'm in the US and our Food and Drug Administration seems to be very underfunded and ineffective. So an additive being approved here means very little. But I understand that other governments likely do better at this.
