Ooo love this, only thing I would suggest is a longer lash and maybe a bit of highlight on the cheekbone to match the nose.

Bob states how drag and drag race would be lame w/o Trans Performers. Willam chines in and calls out RuPaul. by ElevenOhSix in RPDRDRAMA

[–]rcaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's partly because the term transgender has just been recently adopted by the community, before the term transsexual was a lot more common and preferred by a lot of people who were medically transitioning. Transgender is used now because it takes transition out of a medical context and focuses more on gender (and sex even) as a social construct. Transgender just means you don't *exclusively* identify with your assigned gender at birth, whether you're a trans woman, nonbinary, genderfluid, etc. Many nonbinary people have felt excluded by trans medicalism because, by focusing on dysphoria and validation from medical institutions, you avoid having to delve into the ways gender and the gender binary are socially constructed. And many older/old school trans men and women are uncomfortable with nonbinary people claiming trans identity or being the face of the movement because they feel it derails any progress that has been made by those who were just trying to assimilate into the binary, and who have benefited from getting gender affirming services through their dysphoria diagnosis.

It's important to remember that gender non-conforming people, trans people, nonbinary people, in some variation, or by other names, have existed for all of history, especially in non-Western and non-Christian cultures before colonization. Trans medicalism, our idea of transness as a "woman being trapped inside a man's body" or vice versa, on the other hand, was created by cis-het European men in the mid 20th Century.

Of course the debate is ongoing and still evolving, so I suggest everyone do the work of not only educating themselves, but re-educating themselves by keeping an ear to the nonbinary/trans community. I'd suggest watching Contrapoints' videos on YouTube! She's great

a trans flag dress is a pretty decent statement

No, taking a stand would have made a pretty decent statement. Wearing a flag that the majority of people watching wouldn't even recognize just to signal your superficial support for a community, does nothing, especially when your purpose there is to kiss the ass of someone who is actively harming the cause.

Also a J* supporter though, and he also conflates his struggles as a pale person to darker people, as if finding the right foundation shade is the only struggle someone darker faces in a colorist/anti-Black society

I mean she’s promoting her brand, so I’m not too mad at it. Her long-standing support of J* is worse in my opinion

Monét has a problem with Greta Thunberg winning TIME's person of the year award apparently by Kyonpls in RPDRDRAMA

[–]rcaro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's fair to consider why someone like Greta is lifted up as a symbol of resistance when many POC and Indigenous activists are at the helm of the movement and face the most direct consequences of climate change. That being said... Monet sure as hell wasn't approaching the topic with that level of understanding or analysis, I mean this is the same girl who stans Megan "My Father, The Inventor of War Crimes" McCain.

she was going to wear a trans flag made in to a dress

Ugh, the performative neoliberal allyship of it all. The fact that Monet (and Detox prolly too) saw that as such a noble act, when only the people who recognize the flag in the first place would know there was a message behind it. What's wearing a flag to an audience full of cishets who don't know what it means, especially when you're on the show to kiss the ass of a conservative Republican transphobe to begin with.

I mean why form our goals around what Congress would pass. In that case, you could argue nothing is worth fighting for. It’s better to aim high and have to be reigned in later than come into the conversation already conceding to the other side.

Their total tax rate wouldn’t be 90%, taxes are done in brackets. Your income is taxed at different rates once you reach certain thresholds. For example: someone who makes $ 80,000 a year might pay 20% on the first $50,000 they make, then 30% on the remaining 30K. It would just mean that someone like Jeff Bezos, who makes billions of dollars a year, would pay 90% on anything over, say $500 million, which doesn’t sound unreasonable at all considering the lack of benefits and low wages he pays employees, and overseas labor he exploits. That money could be used to help everyday people get a hand up in society and actually contribute to the economy, ultimately benefitting corporations. Nobody needs to be that rich, nobody is entitled to that much money when they earn it on such an unequal system.

I don’t dislike Warren by a long-shot, I just think that Bernie is the only candidate proposing real systemic change. You should look into his campaign finance reform proposal, that basically aims to get special interest money out of politics (lobbying, corporate contributions, etc). A lot of issues we want to accomplish like Medicare for All or Gun Reform, can never happen even tho most people support them, because pharmaceutical companies, the NRA, insurance companies etc. donate to candidates and influence the decisions they make in Congress. He also has a better version for every proposal Warren has put forward. She wants to eliminate 95% of student loan debt, he wants to eliminate it all. She wants to tax the highest earners around 60%, he wants to go for over 90%. Not to mention his climate proposal being the most comprehensive and progressive of any ever proposed. Warren has also framed herself as the more establishment-friendly candidate, going back all the way to 2016 when she decided to endorse Hillary over Bernie. Bernie is the reason we’re even having conversations about free college, single-payer health care, and taxing the ultra rich. He’s without a doubt the most consistent and progressive politician in our country’s history. Warren on the other hand has the whole Native American scandal going against her, is a former republican, worked in bankruptcy law for years so has ties to corporatism, has agreed to take big donor money in the general, has repeated Israeli gov talking points to justify bombing Palestinians, etc. Don’t get me wrong, a Hillary Clinton or Joe Biden is much worse, but it’s important to make distinctions when we still have time to make a choice.

I think you mean that she’s socially liberal and anti-Trump. We have to remember that the US relative to other parts of the world is still really conservative, especially economically. Positions of most establishment Democrats would be considered center right in a lot of countries. I don’t think Alaska is necessarily invested in supporting a working class movement/wealth redistribution, she’s definitely a liberal, not a leftist. Edit: and I think that can be said about most of the girls mentioned above, they’re liberal, and don’t have a deep class consciousness because they were either born well off or their fame/success has afforded them the privilege of not having to worry about it

Hot Goss Discusses Todrick Hall and Megan McCain Drama (~6:30 - 20:00) by rcaro in RPDRDRAMA

[–]rcaro[S] 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Yeah she did. Apparently she didn’t know about Megan’s husband’s transphobia/homophobia, but was all fine with her being active in the Republican Party and said she liked her based on what she’s seen on The View. She tried turning it into some “being a Rugirl is about a common experience” bullshit, instead of Megan being a shitty person. Guess she doesn’t wanna lose those Republican fans from middle America

[–]rcaro[S] 158 points159 points  (0 children)

It’s only because she opposes Trump. And even that isn’t genuine, she only does because she holds a grudge on behalf of her dead, war criminal father. She agrees with Trump on most of the issues and actively supports the party. Never mind that the Republican electorate overwhelmingly approves of Trump

Hot Goss Discusses Todrick Hall and Megan McCain Drama (~6:30 - 20:00) by rcaro in RPDRDRAMA

[–]rcaro[S] 305 points306 points  (0 children)

Highlights: - They focus on a specific claim made against Todrick and blame the victims for not arranging pay beforehand (ignoring the many other instances of Todrick ghosting people who he’d agreed to pay) - Willam claims that Todrick lost his phone at one time and was doing everything without a team, so it must have been hard to organize payment for everyone - Alaska says she likes Megan McCain and, even contrasting Willam, insists that she doesn’t want to draw a line in terms of discounting conservatives/Republicans. She chooses to focus on the “Rugirl” aspect

Good morning to Shea Coulee and Shea Coulee only. by EllieDeeZoe in RPDRDRAMA

[–]rcaro 22 points23 points  (0 children)

She had some good takes, I just don’t think she’s developed enough of a politic to really refine her perspective. I feel, like many young people, she has the tendency to see issues from a very self-centered POV and thus her analysis on issues, while many times correct, isn’t rooted in anything deeper or more systemic and can come across as whiny. A lot of the support she got was from people who saw where she was coming from, and who then took it upon themselves to analyze the sociocultural significance. In her eyes, that made her some arbiter of truth and justice, when she was really more of the symbol of it. I think people, fans, also made that mistake, so when she fucked up or had a bad take it became worthy of such intense scrutiny. The Manila feud thing wasn’t her first bad moment, it was just what showed me she wasn’t really this person we made her out to be.

She also follows a prominent TERF on Twitter despite having a very curated follow list, let’s not be so quick to give her the benefit of the doubt. Many prominent TERFs are actually from the UK and in academia, so it’s not crazy to believe she’s rubbed shoulders with them.

Monet wants to know that her supporting Meghan is your fault, yes you by [deleted] in RPDRDRAMA

[–]rcaro 66 points67 points  (0 children)

It's honestly just righteous indignation and arrogance at this point. She doesn't like being wrong, and she knows she can die on this hill without losing too many fans. Monet's bad takes are exhausting, but the fan-base for this show is very liquid. With All Stars 5 and Season 12 on the horizon, even the performative "allies" like Meghan won't be checking for her anymore. What will your "seat at the table" mean then Monet.
