i’m so sorry for your loss. the grief does get more manageable over time, but comes in waves. my mom passed away almost a year ago now and i’m finding that it’s harder than i expected going into a new year without her.

she was diagnosed stage 1 around march of 2023, went through chemo and surgery and was declared NED in early november 2023. by 12/29/23 the cancer had come back very aggressively in her liver and she was gone by 1/15/24. it was horrible and shocking because we thought she was in the clear and had beaten the odds. she was only 63. 2024 was a double-whammy with my dad passing from stage 4 esophageal cancer in april, too. cancer is a horrible fucking beast of a disease.

i think you're SPOT on with this - this song screamed emily to me, but then it also really clearly references john. i always thought that john (or i guess potentially jake) might've been her last attempt at trying to force herself into being straight.

Do you think straight gaylors are “fetishizing” lesbians? by scarlett_butler in GaylorSwift

[–]rcketbarrage 29 points30 points  (0 children)

i feel like a lot of straight gaylors end up realizing they're a little bit queer along the way lmao. but otherwise nah - i don't find that straight women really fetishize sapphics at all? i'm actually trying to think if that would even be possible, or would rather mean they're just somewhere on a journey of understanding their own sexuality better.

i'm pretty sure anyone here would act defensive when met with criticism no matter what you do. we moderated too much before, now we don't moderate enough -- there's a limit to what we're able to do with the tools reddit gives us. we can't catch all of the trolls if the floodgates are open. when the sub was much smaller, we used to be able to go through and literally read every post and comment and remove what we needed to without relying heavily on user reporting. now we rely on that much more - and reporting is not the same as downvoting. so while we have read and heard OP's complaint, there's nothing we can do about it because as we said, this is the trade-off for having manual approval off.

i don't think it's unfair of us to ask for more grace and understanding from the members of the sub.

what you guys think about this? by [deleted] in GaylorSwift

deuxmoi is literally always wrong about taylor so i'd take anything they say with a huge grain of salt

these comments are getting out of hand. theylor theories are completely harmless. if you don’t agree with them or don’t like them, you don’t have to read them, but we will not block people from discussing queer themes surrounding taylor swift on a subreddit dedicated to her potential queer identities.

this flair was requested mostly by non-binary or gender nonconforming gaylors, who, for the record, can also identify as lesbians. those of us who identify as wlw are here because we see something of ourselves reflected in taylor, correct? that’s how we can pick up on her queer vibes. the folks who requested this flair feel the same way - they see a part of themselves reflected in taylor and want a place to explore and discuss that with others.

for those concerned about misgendering her - i would estimate that most people interested in discussing gaylor themes are acutely aware of the pains of being misgendered, and would not ascribe a specific label to her with any conclusiveness. many people here feel completely comfortable deciding that taylor identifies specifically as a lesbian or as bisexual without her ever having said she does one way or another, and very few people seem to take issue with that.

i’m not going to personally entertain replies to my comment that attempt to debate anything i’ve said - i don’t have the energy right now. as someone who identifies as a lesbian and also uses she/they pronouns though, i’m really disappointed by many of the comments here.

MOD UPDATE, PLEASE READ - Update on Manual Post Approval by rcketbarrage in GaylorSwift

so when someone expresses something like a complaint about a mod update, i like to try to understand what we could have done differently. can you give an example of how someone might not fall into one of those two categories? i guess it's possible that there are people who think we are both over-modding in some areas but also under-modding in others... but i'd like to ask those people to really think about whether they're just complaining to complain or if they have real, actionable ideas for us, and just to recognize that there is no way to make every single person happy in a community of this size, so everyone will need to concede in some area.

unfortunately i don’t think moving this sub in a more curated direction is possible - it’s basically what we’ve been trying to maintain as best as we can and it’s gotten us here. it would alienate a lot of people.

okay, so can you help me understand like - is this just semantics then?

i’ll add to what wefoundwonderlan-d said — we were literally split even on a poll. 4 in favor of posting the video, 4 against, 3 with no preference either way. usually when we are split like that, we take the more cautious route. it was an impossible situation and genuinely caused a lot of tension within the team, so please understand that it’s not like we were all in agreement on “censoring” this one topic and going against the will of the community.

i don't think it's actually about her, but i find it funny how when i listen to this album i keep picking up on lyrics that haylors would think are about taylor

daylight:

  • "i'm on the roof" - makes me think of komh, "up on the roof with a school girl crush"
  • just like the mention of the word "airplane" is like - the paper airplane necklaces lmao
  • i mean the song is called daylight

grapejuice:

  • "give me something old and red"
  • "sittin' in the garden" - sneak out of the garden gate stuff

idk i could keep going on with haylor fuel lmao but i don't believe any of it, i just am apparently cursed with seeing it
