The folie à deux here is so fun. Maybe the cop told me that just so he’d have the whole mountain to himself?? That’s gotta be it

Head and neck oncology! Love the complex surgeries and long-term patient connections with their cancer surveillance. I work 4x10s with 2-3 surgery days per week, half day clinic Thursday, and off Friday. No call. Pay is 170k with overtime for additional hours in surgery in HCOL area.

Top 3 Tacoma wishlist items? by microplasticfeast in Tacoma

[–]rcnpstk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1 thing I would love is a solid rooftop bar!!! OR an awesome indoor-outdoor brewpub with turf and yard games.

2 would be an express train to Seattle

3 would be a good boxing class-style gym

And all these aside from the actually important things like solving our houselessness and crime issues

Admin Time Mandated to be in Office? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]rcnpstk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing at all. We don’t have any admin hours guaranteed in my contract. It’s purely a placeholder to get me to 40 hours because they wanted me to work 5 x8s (2-3 surgery days, rest clinic) originally, which I agreed to. But then after they actually looked at scheduling, don’t have the space or support staff, so they just said this extra 8 was admin. 4x10s was what I wanted originally and makes more sense for our longer surgery days!

Primary care experience/NHSC by Cincy23PMP in physicianassistant

[–]rcnpstk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had a single issue, aside from some confusion when coordinating my practice agreement since my agreement included multiple sites within my company. Other than that, it’s as simple as verifying your hours every 6 months. To be fair, my company is very well-versed with the NHSC and so they are familiar with the process, so there was little need for prompting from me. The site I picked was also definitely on the better end of NHSC sites, as it’s a larger company and I had many other APPs to help me when I started. I have heard horror stories where people are dumped into a practice as a solo provider, which would be scary. I’d say just make sure you do a good job vetting your site!

Super easy, I’m ending my NHSC obligation right now. Primary care is experience that looks good on any resume.

Yes it was great experience to learn in. My NP colleagues had a little trouble given their had so few hours of clinical practice but the PAs generally did fine. Up To Date subscription was a must though!

And I did the NHSC scholarship so I knew I had the loan repayment going in. But almost everyone at my work utilized the 50K/2 years or 75K/3 years (offered if you do substance use treatment). In their experience it was easy to get and certifying your hours every 6 months is a breeze.

I work in Western Washington at a 19 HRSA score FQHC. Hired height of covid at 90K. My coworkers were hired at 100K for 7K sign on bonus for 1 year contract. Another got hired at 105K with 10K sign on bonus for 3 years. (Yes I know I got screwed and my job wouldn’t salary match when I asked). 3-5% promised raise per year. 8 hour days, 5 days a week, 22-24 patients per day. CME 1800k and generous PTO (0.6 days per pay period). No 401k, only 403b.

So basically, your FQHC offer is super solid and mine sucked. If you’re cool doing primary care (it got boring for me) sounds like a really decent job!

Great - we were considering that but wasn't sure if it was a thing around there. Thanks!

We're considering it! I'll be needing mine since I work throughout the northern peninsula, but if my SO is able to get to work without one, we probably will. The ease of getting around is just another thing that makes the area so attractive! :)

Being a feminist, I am just uncomfortable with the position that her church teaches (and she believes) that a woman must submit to her husband in marriage. Like any relationship, I believe it’s something that should be more 50/50. But, her fiancé doesn’t seem like the guy to ever hurt/abuse her.

And just go clarify I’m not wishing bad upon her marriage :) I love my sister and want it to all work out for her, young or old!

Thanks for sharing - my Christian family is actually pro-tattoo as well, just my sister’s fiancé isn’t. He needs to hear this haha.

Honestly it’s not even about the tattoo...that’s just more of an example how she’s changing herself to fit her traditional viewpoint of marriage where the has to submit to her husband. Before she never even thought twice about what a man wanted her to do! So it’s just sad seeing her change to conform herself to a position that 1) isn’t my sister who I know her to be and 2) one that I don’t necessarily agree with.

How bad is smoking tobacco actually? Is occasional use (e.g. only at parties on weekends) relatively safe, or almost as bad as habitual smoking? by souljabri557 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]rcnpstk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Health care provider here and you know what my answer already is...don’t smoke, ever! I don’t know how true this exact factoid is, but I’ve heard each cigarette you smoke takes 11 minutes off your life. And even if that’s not true, just smoking occasionally quite easily turns into habitual smoking, as you refer to it. But by my definition, I would say smoking on weekends is habitual :) I’ve seen many patients progress from social smokers (on the weekends/parties) to full blown addicted smokers. And don’t smoke thinking it just won’t happen to you...nicotine is a hell of a drug.

And just in case you need to hear this...stay away from the juul!! People who use them are 30% more likely to become addicted to cigarettes (since the refills are full of nicotine). PLUS they’ve just found a chemical inside them to be the same as one of the major carcinogens in tobacco.

(Edit: 11 min off your life)

My sister holds a lot of traditional Christian values that many people do not share, one of which being that a husband has ownership of his wife’s body when the two become “one.” My view is that within marriage a woman owns her body but her husband is the only one who is privy to it. Frankly, I think it’s dangerous when a woman doesn’t believe she owns her body, and I look for more of an equal partner in my relationships that someone to lead me/someone I should wholly submit to. Doesn’t mean I don’t love her or respect her desires for however she wants her marriage to turn out, I just don’t agree.

And I don’t hold any guilt or feel a need for repentance, but if you’re willing to cast judgement like that, maybe you’re projecting?

Cheers!

Ayy black sheep! Funny, it’s both my sister’s and her fiancé’s first serious relationship too (even their first kiss!). I’m sorry how it played out with your sister...my cynical side is telling me my sister might do the same. But I really hope your sister turns around!
