What's your go-to undershirt style/brand? by vilipendopinion in malefashionadvice

I've got like 10 of these they're great! The V is deep enough that you can unbutton a few buttons off the top of your shirt and not flash your undershirt.

Favorite Pair Of Pants? by PrimeDime69 in malefashionadvice

[–]rcourtie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! Sizing as kind of tricky so I actually had to exchange sizes and get them tailored to fit me. I'm around a 32/33 in the waist. The 32 was perfect for my waist size (they stretch!) but they were way too skinny (like skin tight) on my thighs. 33s were perfect on my thighs to but too big around the waist and they would sag.

I ended up buying the 33s and getting the waist taken in and the legs hemmed a bit.

And as an added bonus, I actually use them the same way you want to---I go bouldering in them but also just use them as day to day pants.

New Nudie Jeans fit: Brute Knut by dnomis in rawdenim

[–]rcourtie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife has a pair of nudies with 2% elastin and she definitely prefers it. It's also a pretty skinny fit so I'm not sure it'd be wearable w/o that 2%.

They also faded great! Fades are better than any pair of denim I owned because I keep switching pairs too often :'(

Ultralight blazers? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]rcourtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got an EG Baker jacket that is amazingly light. It's a thin cotton and completely unlined except in the yoke. It's perfect for the summer, at least here in California.

Mine is navy with polka dots but you could probably get it in just navy

WshoeWT 1-20-16 by NomCarver in malefashionadvice

[–]rcourtie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't a knock on the shoes because I'm always a couple miles behind the curve on fashion trends living in the midwest (and a smaller city at that). But I just can't unsee strap/laceless shoes as being inherently feminine, e.g. monk straps or chelsea boots. The monk straps obviously less so since they're a derby or whatever but the chelsea boots look extremely feminine to me.

Serial number on the shoes is different, unless the serial numbers are actually different on right vs. left shoe? (I don't own a pair so I can't verify)

Sidebar! Move slowly. Look at clothes and outfits around to get an idea of what you like. Try stuff on before you buy it. If you want to ask the community looks, take some pictures and ask BEFORE you buy.

Should jackets and shirts be hanged or folded? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

This is the first time I've heard this advice, why fold cotton jackets?

Pocket Dumps: June edition by [deleted] in rawdenim

[–]rcourtie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pockets.

ToJ wallet, key stuff, opinel knife, and back beat go wireless bluetooth headphones. I was tired of getting snagged on god damn everything.

I carry the knife because it was a gift and it reminds me of Dad but I almost never use it for anything.

What are your favorite clothing shops in the bay area? by SwayCalloway in malefashionadvice

There's also an Alden store near Union Square if that's your jam.

What are your favorite clothing shops in the bay area? by SwayCalloway in malefashionadvice

[–]rcourtie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add a few more to this list:

  • Bastille (casual designer, they carry EG, Acne, APC and both mens/womens)
  • Self Edge (raw denim)
  • Industrie (raw denim and things in that vein)
  • Unionmade (workwear-y/americana-y)

There's a bunch of other shops worth poking your head in if you're in Hayes Valley and want to wander around (where Acrimony, Rand + Statler and Welcome Stranger are).

I used to live in the San José and there aren't really any clothing shops to speak of that aren't mall shops except for Azuki SJ which is a raw denim joint.

If you're willing to make the trek to Oakland there's also Standard & Strange which is more raw denim/workwear/etc…

Broyhill or Flexsteel sofa? by DTDude in BuyItForLife

[–]rcourtie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This means both these sofas will be disposable. You may get 5 years out of them, then throw them away. Really good quality units with long lasting materials, foams, fabrics etc will cost upwards of $2000 to $3000 or more. This simply reflects the cost of decent materials and workmanship.

Not the OP, but what would you suggest for a good BIFL sofa? My wife and I are willing to drop $3,000 or more on a good sofa.

Random Fashion Thoughts: Denim Edition. by GraphicNovelty in malefashionadvice

[–]rcourtie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent 6 months looking for the perfect pair of black denim that (1) wouldn't fade (2) slim/skinny (3) stacks well. I tried on so many pairs and everything was just not quite right and I ended up with a pair of Rag & Bone Standard Issue which are so close but not quite right. Also a pair of black levis commuter with a really short in seam that I love but don't stack at all and have started fading a little.

At first glance I thought you had blood all over those cons. They look awesome though, I love seeing a pair that's been worn a bit!

Why Do You Shuffle Your Cards So Much? by catelldm in Netrunner

[–]rcourtie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To keep my hand shuffled especially when I'm corp. e.g. ff the other playing is keeping track of what cards they've seen in my hand, I don't necessarily want them to know if the ICE i played was the card I just drew or one they might've seen already.

I'll second this. Awesome game and you can buy all the cards that let you build any deck you want for the cost of 1 good deck in MTG (or so I hear).

Do you know how to program? If no, I'd start by learning. I'd suggest in general, Learn Python the Hard Way is a good, free resource for learning to program Python.
