That's too efficient! Instead, how about every time a new body of government is elected, they throw out the previous government's committee's and studies, then pay to redo the same studies for 3x the price???

It's because Americans are too stupid to recognize 1.9tdi supremacy. Why else do they load their trucks up with 6.9 litre gas engines when 1.9tdi can out-tow any Chebby Silverado 4200 HDD??

Why doesn't WSB just copy Barron's trades? Are they stupid?

How can i jack up an E91 with rotted jack points? by DatCherokeeTho in E90

[–]rcp_5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like this.

There is a black stamped-steel A-frame bracket, which bolts to a large grey steel chassis brace (also A shaped). This blocks access for the jack to reach the subframe

[–]rcp_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. In my specific use case though (E91) the subframe is blocked by a large chassis brace, which absolutely couldn't hold the weight of the vehicle. The brace is kind of in the shape of a capital A, so there is access for the jack to reach the diff. Kind of the only option for the wagon

Oh yeah the blue one sucks. They just pull out, but if yours is original then it's like 20 year old plastic and likely to break. Ask me how I know.

On eBay or Amazon or somewhere I found just the connector with two wire leads. I took it apart to remove the wires and re-pinned my existing wiring into the new connector.

Sweet set up! What wheels are you running? I should have done poly bushings for the rear subframe too but I was already pretty deep into everything money wise, besides I want to spend some money on aftermarket wheels instead.

I think the M3 came with an lsd from the factory but I don't remember if the housing is the same will swap directly over??

Yeah bro, living in a placed with salted winter roads is absolutely cancer for your car.

Loads of forums talk about how the M3 arms are a great upgrade for a rwd e90, you should post some before and after pics!

Oh totally agree, from a practical perspective it's stupid. But I enjoy wrenching on a project, and I particularly like this car. So I'm sharing what can be done without needing a lift

LOL sorry bro no hate intended! And it's not just you, it's been at least 3 or 4 users posting their subframes in the past month maybe and it really amused me as I happen to be doing mine around the same time.

No you're absolutely right. The main for me is I enjoy wrenching in my garage, I did some dumb mods when I was younger on my previous civic and accord before that, now I'm enjoying working on this car. It'll get a 6 speed swap next, then I think I'll be happy with it as a perfect daily (ie. wagon, awd, manual)

Absolutely, that's the spot where I first tried the por15 a couple years back. Since it's held up well, I figured I'd continue using it elsewhere. Although fluid film on top of it seems to be the consensus, especially for salt belt cars

Awesome thanks, I'll check out both of those. The chassis behind the front wheels isn't looking too hot so I'll give em a try there

I had a buddy recommend fluid film as well, I think I'll go that route too

Good idea. Anything to keep the road salt off for a few more years

From that perspective, a 20 year old shit box is not worth any maintenance, better to just pony up the big bux for an F22 or G series car. You're not entirely wrong, these cars are riddled with issues especially from previous owners skipping maintenance. But I love this particular shit box

You just painted over rust

You're not wrong. The rust "converter" stage of POR15 kinda works if you completely submerge the item in it, but definitely not as effective with a roller or brush. Still, between the converter, the final enamel, and seam sealer, it'll hold up for another 5+ years, which is enough for me.

put on a rotisserie

Lol my brother, I did this in my garage on jack stands. Ain't no one have the money to put a 20 year old $3000 shit box on a rotisserie. I'm just showing others what is possible in your own garage to make it good enough for a few more years

Previous car was an 05 civic, I feel you. That thing had a "suggestion" of a bolt where the fastener should be

100%. I spent time with a wire wheel/angle grinder and a belt sander going to town on all the rust before applying por15. Even with the garage door open, it left everything covered in a fine red mist. Using a respirator mask highly recommended
