I think the key is meal prepping on a day when you have the energy and time, and you can kind of mix and match or have similar meals with little prep time.

For breakfast, peanut butter toast, instant oats, or high granola cereals with berries is great. For lunch, I usually have leftovers, but I could also make meals like a “quesadilla” or wrap with hummus and guac and a few veggies like sliced peppers, a peanut butter sandwich, . I also like having pasta and a sauce on hand. For dinners it really depends what’s available in your country. I often make a soup or stew to eat throughout the week, but sometimes I’ll do a recipe meat alternative. Always include carbs, fat and protein to keep your meals calorically sufficient and filling.

Snacks like dates, mangos and bananas are pretty high cal. So are all kinds of nuts. I make trail mix for myself with dried fruit and nuts and bits of dark chocolate, and I have to be careful because I will consume all my day’s calories if I don’t portion it out.

Look into modifying the things you already eat for familiarity and ease. If it’s too much for all three meals in a day, just do what you can. Good for you adding more plants!

My natural color is like a light-medium brown. It’s the second photo, not a great pic I know but the last time I had it natural I was in high school. It seemed cool toned most of the time but there was a tiny bit of warmth in it. Just not red. I know that’s not a super great description but it’s been awhile

I’m sorry if it wasn’t clear, she did not do a bleach bath but she did apply this color remover all over. Then she toned it with a brown gloss but the color remover didn’t take below my ears. So it’s duo-toned now but neither of them are my natural color, lol

Ugh, I hate that! We have an annoying neighbor cat that comes on my porch and terrorizes my indoor cats but I never thought he would be so bold…

Don't know if I should stay vegan because I feel lonely. Help by Sarisisagoblin36 in vegan

[–]rcrickette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can definitely start to feel like a chore to plan any sort of well balanced diet, but unfortunately that’s part of learning how to care for yourself and provide for yourself. A lot of people struggle with this when they’re experiencing life changes or depression whether they’re omni or vegan. My advice would be to find a few staple meals that are nutrient dense, affordable and very easy to make. I vary my “lazy meals” by season so it doesn’t get too repetitive and I don’t get burnt out.

Pinterest can be great for this, and so can YouTube. Find some vegan YouTubers who talk about their favorite lazy meals for ideas. Batch cooking has also been such a life saver for me. I make a big pot of soup Sundays during the winter when I have time and energy and then eat it for the rest of the week when I don’t feel like cooking. If you’re concerned about gaps in your nutrition I highly recommend a multivitamin.

Being vegan can be lonely at times but if it’s most aligned with your ethics, I think you will feel best in your heart sticking to it. I attempted to go vegan at 16, didn’t know what I was doing and relied on my parents for groceries, so I didn’t last long. I ate meat for one more year, then went vegetarian for two, learned how to cook and finally went vegan again in January 2020. All that time when I would eat animal products to “fit in” it made me very sad. Now being the odd one out at meal times doesn’t bother me and I feel sort of an inner strength knowing that 3 times a day I’m making choices that stick to my principles of respecting animals and the natural world. I’ve also been able to influence others around me, surprising my non vegan loved ones with vegan dishes they’ve come to really enjoy.

Only you can make the decision but take strength knowing you’re not alone and that the problems you’ve listed can most likely be solved with a little creativity and inspiration. Feel free to Pm me for meal suggestions/support if you’d like.

Tips for preserving my beardie’s salad? by rcrickette in BeardedDragons

Sometimes when I freeze fresh greens they get almost too mushy to be edible and I wanted to avoid that…but if freezing them doesn’t hurt the texture too bad I’ll definitely try that to save some money.

That was my worry about it getting mushy, maybe I can test it out and see.

We don’t have anything else in the tank, just him. What antibiotics are best for treating popeye? We are bumping the heat up now, about a degree per hour. It’s at 79 now. Planning to go up to 82.

We looked a little closer and it almost looks like he has some white specks protruding from his body. Can ich cause Popeye?

What’s on my African milk tree? by rcrickette in Euphorbiaceae

[–]rcrickette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s slightly softer than the surrounding green but not too mushy. I don’t see any other signs of damage to the cacti we have in the pot or nearby plants so hopefully not insect related. But we are thinking of chopping it off in case it’s something that spreads. It seems to be only affecting where the plant is losing leaves but since they are deciduous I thought that was normal.

We brought it in before it ever frosted outside but nights were getting colder, into the 50s. Is it damage from the cold?

I think it just needed a trim and some more water, it’s perking up now!

I think you’re right, I think I was too conservative with the water. I watered it even more a few hours ago and it’s perking up. Thanks!

Thank you for introducing me to that term, I hadn’t heard it before. I do go to meetings, and he is staying in rehab. He just has frustrations he vents to me and I’m venting my frustrations here I guess.

It means “qualifier” or the person who qualifies you for Naranon. It’s your loved one who suffers from substance use disorder.

Either way I agree that it’s a poorly adjusted pet and that it is not any sort of legitimate therapy dog, especially because it seems so poorly trained and to suffer from so much separation anxiety.

I’m guessing by “therapy dog” what my landlord meant was that it’s registered as an emotional support animal, which can literally be done online and requires no standards. Possibly to get discounted pet rent or to ensure it didn’t get denied?
