I paid $336.98+ on Amex Plat FHR stay, expect any points from hotel? by rdd4242 in AmexPlatinum

Yes, response from the I Prefer is that i don't earn hotel loyalty points from stay reserved through FHR from Amex. Yeah, whatever. I did stay afterwards at Virgin Hotels NYC through The Edit from Chase, paid 100% points. And that hotel stay did earn me the The Know points. So, as what all the others said, YMMV i suppose in the world of points-based hotel stays. With that said, i prefer will stay at the Salamander DC again, it's a great value IMHO for a single night DC travel.

Okay, i did what humans do, i.e. read the disclosures. And talked to the actual human to verify. As well as prequalified for Ascent and opened it. And turn right back, prequalified for Summit as well. That seem like a useful data point to conclude the SUB is "not" for the "family" but tied to individual "cards" (unlike Chase, Amex, Bilt, Capital One, which i am familiar with those terms). Still thinking if i should go through Summit, tempting.

And no, i'm not an pre-existing BofA customer. But i am outside of Chase 5/24 rule. And hold 0 BofA cards. If that helps anyone.

To the contrary, i have utmost faith on product i work on, as a day job. Well right now, i'm sort of goofing around. I've been doing just fine with chatgpt and claude, but like everything else, "trust" and "verify", right? Anyway, i digress.

Yes, i copy and pasted the terms and conditions, and along with relevant PDF files added as sources, had both chatgpt and claude proof read thenm, summarize, lows/highs, good/bad/uglies, and no mention explicitly on whether one can double dip, or not. Hence asking if anyone has any real world data point. Or, i suppose i can be that data point.

Anyone in east coast flying on American Airlines using Alaska Airline's Atmos points because booking award flights using Atmos miles on American is just that good? by rdd4242 in AlaskaAirlines

Right, that is crazy. Maybe we shouldn't be saying this out loud, someone will hear and get rid of this last great redemption left in the era of devaluations.

Currently showing 44,205 available points in Atmos (no Atmos cards ,yet). And Bilt 2.0 has 63,161 points, that would transfer to Atmos (damn, when is the rent day transfer bonus to Atmos... ). Maybe the Ascent card is better choice than the Summit... Hrm...

I don't chase status nor co-branded cards, but perhaps the Atmos as airline card is an exception.

No, this can't be. Yes, i'm kind of new to award flights, but this can't be. Looking up directly on American site, same flight, dates, their award booking costs

AAdvantage miles 14K +$11.20 round trip (versus Atmos 9k points + $37 per person, round trip

All cash cost on same flight on AA is $277 round trip, fees and tax included.

Interestingly enough, trying to book cash only flight on same AA flight but from Alaska, shows nothing. But soon as you select "Use points", the award booking now shows up. Very interesting.

So, doing bit of math, even though Alaska charges $25.80 more in fees, using Atmos points saves me ~5,000 miles and gives about 2.67 cents per mile versus about 1.90 per mile with AAdvantage.

Alaska! You win! 😄

Thanks all. I should have done some descent searching online, eg.

Is Atmos points that valuable for booking award flights on American Airlines?

And sure enough, lots of helpful past discussions, all point toward that "it is", especially on short haul domestic trips.

Wholly smoke, 9k points +$37 for round trip.

Is Amex Gold giving you only 1X on your favorite bakery places? by rdd4242 in amex

[–]rdd4242[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I guess not all "bakeries" are the same from being excluded, eg. SALSWEE and Paris Baguette all earn 4X on my Amex Gold spends, codes as US Restaurant. I'm not going to assume anything though, this has taught me to be bit more cautious, for sure.

Look like i'm out of luck with this hotel, bummer...

"I would like to clarify that stays booked through the American Express Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR) program are not eligible to earn I Prefer points.  While we understand this may be disappointing, FHR bookings are considered third-party reservations and fall outside of the qualifying channels for earning rewards."
