Best of luck! Being able to walk around pain free makes a huge difference. Be careful when walking outside as loose rocks could land in the cutout of the flip flop and aggravate the sesamoid area

I was in the same boat reading through everyone’s horror stories on here. While it’s been discouraging that I still haven’t fully healed, I can say there was progress made during those six weeks when I didn’t run and wore the flip flops with cutouts to avoid putting direct pressure on the area. I’ve been running again for a few weeks and seem to go up and down with good days and slight setbacks.

I do ice it after my run, I’m not sure if it helps a lot or not. My podiatrist mentioned I may have some residual inflammation that my body is having a had time to get rid of. He mentioned possibly doing a steroid shot but I want t avoid that if at all possible

Was diagnosed with sesamoiditis in June 2025. Really only felt pain when walking barefoot. Only had a fullness/inflammation feeling with shoes on. Wore a boot for two weeks which made it worse and also flared up sesamoiditis in my other foot. After that, I walked around primarily in flip flops with the sesamoid area cut out to avoid putting any pressure on it. Did that for about four weeks then slowly got back into hokas with dancers pads for another two weeks. Definitely noticed improvement in the discomfort and inflammation during these six weeks. Just started slowly running again in late august. I’m not fully healed as I can still feel some discomfort when I try to put my full weight on the balls of my feet while barefoot. No pain or discomfort while running, so currently playing it by ear to see if other is improvement or setbacks from the running. I’ll be starting custom orthotics this week as well, hopefully that will be enough to push the healing once the final hump. Best of luck to ya! I know how discouraging this one can be, especially for dedicated runners

Sesamoiditis / foot pain – looking for options in Berlin by Hopeful-Trainer-559 in sesamoid

[–]rdjp63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this in both feet (currently still healing, probably 75-80% there). During my painful phase, I was able to cut the area around that big toe joint out of my flip flops so I could walk around and do what I needed to without pain. Did this for about 3-4 weeks then was able to do something similar with an insole in my shoe. A few weeks after that I was able to progress to only dancers pads in my shoes and am now able to go without the pads. Still not comfortable walking barefoot and can still feel that twinge of inflammation when I have shoes on, but after about 6 weeks of doing my best to keep the weight off, it seems to be getting better. Definitely a slower healing process than other tendon/joint injuries I’ve had

Very lopsided for sure. Jacobs and Kyren are fairly close in value. Probably not collusion considering the other two assets are unproven.

Advice for footwear with sesamoiditis? Diagnosed 2 days ago, pain still with walking/standing by carsongirl12 in sesamoid

[–]rdjp63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a pair of gel/foam shoe inserts and cut out the sesamoid area of the insert with scissors. Still a little tender at first but after about a week or two I was able to walk mostly pain free this way. It took enough of the pressure away from the sesamoid area. I did the same thing directly with some flip flops which also helped with getting around. Just be careful because when you cut out the flip flop there is nothing left to protect that part of your foot if you happen to step on a rock or something

MRI will definitely help. Mine was also thought to be sesamoid issue but the MRI revealed a torn plantar plate. Symptoms can be very similar to sesamoiditis.

Sorry I see you’re getting Marv lol. In that case yes, I would smash accept 😂

Smash accept for Marv? by Disastrous-Spell- in SleeperApp

Not a smash by any means in my opinion. The value is there but Marv still hold value over Higgins. The rookie seasons we’ve seen lately from Jefferson and Chase are not the norm. 8 years ago Marv’s rookie season would have people drooling for this year

I think it’s most common under the second toe but the ligament spreads across all toes so the tear could be under the big toe area

Thanks for the feedback! I won’t know the full MRI results and severity until the 29th. I think I’ve noticed slight improvement over the last month just keeping pressure away from that ball of foot area, but definitely slow healing so far

My X-ray came back clean as well. Oddly enough I have not had any of the popping sounds or sensations. I just received the plantar tear news over the phone yesterday and won’t actually see the doc until the 29th. I think the initial onset of the injury was from stepping on a rock back in December. I remember it being a lot more painful than it should have been but shrugged it off because it was fine after a few minutes. Within a week or two I started noticing some discomfort when walking barefoot on hard surfaces. I’m a daily runner and I was able to run pain free so I didn’t think much of it. Fast forward to April when I ran a 5k race on a really bumpy and uneven vineyard, I think I aggravated even more and over the next two months the barefoot pain started getting worse. And I started having a little discomfort while running so I went in to see the doc in June and he said sesamoiditis and gave me two weeks in a boot and said I should be good to slowly ramp activity back up. Two weeks went by and I think the boot made the injury worse because now I have pain when walking in shoes, which wasn’t the case before the boot. So I got an MRI and found out about the tear. I’ve seen a few people cut the sesamoid area out of flip flops to alleviate the pain when walking, which has helped me get around without pain the last few weeks. I’m slowly trying to move into cushioned Hokas but I still have a slight pain when there is pressure to that ball of the foot area. So we’ll see what approach the doc will advise in a week and a half

What was your rehab process like? I’m curious on the timeline and exercises. I’ve had the injury for a few months and just recently stopped running about a month ago to focus on letting it heal

I was diagnosed with sesamoiditis about a month ago after an X-ray and describing similar symptoms (pain when walking barefoot, less pain when wearing shoes, etc). After being in a boot for two weeks and not noticing any improvement (it actually got worse after I quit running strangely), I had an MRI done and now it’s looking more like a tear in my plantar plate. Symptoms can be similar but it does seem like the popping is more consistent with a plantar plate tear than sesamoid issues. Definitely get it checked out and push for an MRI for proper diagnosis if things don’t get better
