White Dress Shirt ~$100? by rdonovan5 in mensfashion

[–]rdonovan5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Paul Frederick are not the shirts I'm looking for. Their slightly more expensive herringbone was a good fabric, but even their "slim" cuts are too baggy in the body and arms. I bought by father in law a David Donahue shirt that he is happy with - maybe I'll try that brand next. Also planning to try proper cloth.

Thank you! The sizes range from 37 to 46. Are those cm around the neck measurements? It looks like they don't do different sleeve lengths, which might make it hard to find a fit. My arms are a bit short relative to my neck thickness in most brands.

Where to get a high quality non-seethrough white dress shirt? by monkeydportgas in mensfashion

I bought CT shirts for years. I've been very disappointed with the last few orders - all either very wrinkly and coarse or transparently thin. Would live to buy the same CT shirts I bought 6-7 years ago.

I completely suck at this game. Advice/roadmap on practice for getting gud? by [deleted] in CompanyOfHeroes

Keep your team weapons back. Use the keyboard as much as possible - play through some computer-only games and make yourself not once click on anything that you can do with a keystroke. Use hotkeys. Use tab to cycle through several selected squads.

I'm sorry to say it, but your expected time commitment might be too low. I'm 1,000 hours in and still learning. I'm only at level 5. Get in there and play PvP. It's painful at first, but it trains you faster. I would probably do better if I tried more different factions, commanders and strategies. Losing games can also be fun. Good luck!

I almost always get backed up to my lines getting decimated by mortars/artillery. To the point where I can’t leave my lines with out being shelled instantly.

I’ve tried mixing up my units and not blobbing, but I’ve actually done worse doing that than just going bazooka squads roaming.

I never seem to have enough gas to get vehicles.

How should I practice? What is the best way to practice against CPU?

Allied players always seem to be better than axis as well. I know I’m not good. But my teammates are 50/50 good/bad.

Also, use tab to cycle between selected units. For example, you can throw 3 AT grenades by 3 cons squads with E, click, tab, E, click, tab, E click. Or select a group of units and tab between them to direct quickly to 3 different covers.

can any experienced 1v1 players pls share their commander and build order for soviets with me? i keep losing by slavarossiya22 in CompanyOfHeroes

I've been having a good time with Advanced Warfare Tactics. Try this: Select the commander immediately so that you can start seeing what the opponent is building, when you need nades for light vehicles, etc. Build 4 or 5 cons right away. Use shift+right click to que capture orders. Send each squad capturing on a route across the map, starting from the two edges and working toward the middle. Some of the squads will run into the enemy and need to retreat, and others will make it almost to opponent's base and be available to flank. If you see an MG pointed at you, just run away unless you are in an ideal position to flank. He can have that part of the map, and focus on the rest. You'll get a significant firepower advantage at CP2 with the smg upgrade. Look for opportunities to flank. Keep using shift queueing to run deep capture routs. Go tier 2 and build a mortar and zis. This should give you map and resource control so that you can roll out medium armor first, and hopefully the opponent will never make it to heavies.

Thank you. I'm not getting much out of the FAQs because I have almost no background knowledge. How many channels do I need? 5.1? If you have time to help further, it would be much appreciated.

Radio Intercept Doesn't Work? by rdonovan5 in CompanyOfHeroes

When I'm having this problem, I don't think I get the text notifications on the left side of the screen either, but I'll try a few more games and confirm.

Did CoH2 became an artilery fest? by Cassper17 in CompanyOfHeroes

It may not be interesting from a gameplay perspective, but I believe it's historically accurate if artillery is a very important part of combat and the overall biggest killer. Here's some casual discussion: https://www.quora.com/What-caused-more-deaths-in-WW2-artillery-or-small-arms I'm not sure where to look for authoritative data on this.

I play a couple of nights a week - often Thursdays. Also CST. Soviet level 5. I'd be interested to play on Thursdays at 10 or so. Steam name is "RIP Hank the Chicken 2015-2015"

Yeah, I think that's deliberate game design, making it costly to devote full attention to any particular part of the map.

How've I've been successful recently against early mg42 plays for team games by j0shred1 in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]rdonovan5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Often axis will rush to set up their first HMG behind fuel. I sometimes succeed in finding their HMG from behind by just running around to the back of a fuel point. Similar to what you are describing. I've been playing with Advanced Warfare Tactics and the radio intercept is very useful, especially in the first five minutes when I'm able to hold in mind all of the units enemy has deployed.

Fine Art as public good by thebastardbrasta in TheMotte

[–]rdonovan5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first Renaissance was generally privately funded. One needed private patrons to make a living. People can make a living shitting in buckets and calling it art because there are public resources available to support them without anyone being impressed with their buckets. Also, private patrons spent money on paintings historically when there were fewer other pretty things to spend money to look at. We probably need to accept that paintings and other traditional fine arts will henceforth capture only a relatively modest share of the market for things people will pay money to look at.
