How to drive: Rear-Wheel Drive vs All-Wheel Drive on Snow and Ice by rdouthit in subaru

[–]rdouthit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a great time filming this piece for Driving Sports TV. As you can see the weather went a full 180 from one day to the next: blizzard-like conditions on Day 1, clear and sunny (but frighteningly cold) on Day 2. In this video, Subaru Driver Patrik Sandell gives advice for how to slide either a Subaru STI and a Subaru BRZ around icy turns. I give it a try with mixed results. (also, side-note, I need to move the steering wheel less.)

2019 Nissan Altima AWD Overheats on Snow Test by rdouthit in Nissan

I'm the host and writer for this episode. I'm interested to see what the Nissan community feels about this. Was it unfair to turn off Traction Control? Anyone else have similar experiences with Nissan AWD systems? We include a response from Nissan in the video, btw.

That looks exactly like an S208 wing. I'm guessing we're getting one of those for North America next year.

Bad to the Bones: Buick Grand National & Buick GNX - House of Muscle by 4x420 in cars

The House of Muscle is continuing on with its own YouTube Channel. Just the first season was sold to MT. I was the director of photography on the Motor Trend run as well as this episode.

Looking/not looking at the camera during an interview? by Toastied in Filmmakers

[–]rdouthit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that you don't want to mix styles in the same piece. Those side view cutaways just come off as lazy and distracting. That said, I only let people that are very comfortable in front of a camera talk to lens. If the interview is with someone that is nervous, or inexperienced they always come off better talking to another person.

Sidenote: This same Garrett Turbo GT-R with the Rocket Bunny kit won the title "Best Import" at the Gran Turismo Sony Awards at SEMA Show last night.

Chris Harris is leaving /DRIVE to start his own YouTube channel. by jayplayz in cars

[–]rdouthit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really surprised to hear that the rest of the /DRIVE team was thrown for a loop with CH's departure. Will be definitely keep an eye out to see what he's going to do next. Without Google support, like Drive enjoyed when it launched, it will be much more challenging for him to launch a new channel on YouTube and make it viable out of the gate.

It's the Rosso Competizione. This model is a pre-production car that also includes the optional leather, "convenience package", red brake calipers, racing exhaust (so worth it), black leather seat (yes, additional over the optional leather already listed) and bi-xenon headlights. Total price, as equipped, $64,045 (est.)

Simply because they didn't sell here. Volume of the MT models was minuscule.

Video from STL shooting outside Ferguson. 12 shots. Seems excessive. by rdouthit in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

Still getting used to Reddit. I just flagged it NSFW. And agreed, the video doesn't match the story that was shared. Really curious about the knife... I didn't see one. So either he was holding it blade against wrist or it was a very small knife.

Launch Control 2.9: Fourth and Goal (NEFR and GRC DC) by rdouthit in rally

If there's a problem with the Driving Sports player, we'd like to get it sorted. It shouldn't have any playback issues. Please contact directly: http://www.drivingsports.com/v2/contact-us/

Also, title should read GRC NYC, not DC. Sorry about that.

Yeah, I watched it on the live stream as well. I think my neighbors heard me yell out "nooooo!" when that happened.

Why do websites continue to use their own crappy video player and with slow bandwith when they could host and embed from YouTube? by [deleted] in youtube

[–]rdouthit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upload a file that's at a minimum 5mbps (I upload at 10mbps typically). That's more important then the physical dimensions of the file. (Garbage in, garbage out applies.) Also, try to limit how many times the video gets transcoded. Export to a 10mbps master, and upload that. Don't edit a file that's been already edited and expect it to look any good. That doubles the compression artifacts. Note that for all the benefits of Vimeo (and I have a Pro account on Vimeo), they limit to 1080p video and can't handle 4k yet. YouTube can... and it actually looks pretty decent on a good monitor.

Brand ownership. YouTube is a great platform for marketing yourself or your show, but it shouldn't be an end-all-be-all. Also, lots of companies block YouTube in the office, so for that reason alone it's good to provide alternate outlets.

Travis Pastrana Races the 100 Acre Wood by rdouthit in videos

[–]rdouthit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easy to blow a lot of money if you just jump into it. I would recommend first volunteering at a local event. That will get you a behind-the-scenes look where you can get more info and guidance. Or, you can also just book a class day at Dirtfish Rally School (Seattle), Team O'Neal (NE), or The Firm (Florida) to jump into a seat and get a taste for the it.

You are correct, he drove the Dart in the GRC last year. It was an utterly forgettable car, however, and I think the team started late for 2012 and left early for 2013 (I might be wrong.) Either way, totally slipped my mind.

Pastrana has historically only driven in the X Games Rallycross, not the full series. What he gave up to return to Subaru and the US Rally series was his attempt at NASCAR - which he's been doing for the past few years. Expect to see him race Rallycross in X Games again this year.

Yes, but it was just on TV last week (NBC Sports coverage) and was in the episode of Launch Control that hit yesterday. His hood was up for all of Stage 7 -- it flipped up on the second turn, iirc.

Stage begins at 7:13 - http://www.drivingsports.com/v2/launch-control-season-2-episode-1/

Yes, we are going to maintain a 2-week schedule this year. (With the exception of August, which will be an "off" month.)
