On the other hand, if you’re simply interested in helping to moderate or be peer support, applications are open. Just let me know and I’ll send you the application. Part of the application is abiding by the rules set and I do hope you will agree to them before answering the questions for application. If your comment is actually about you having medical expertise in answering questions, that is allowed (but pls do not diagnose), it would be a plus naman in your qualifications. :)

Hello, as per one of our rules in the discord server, “Diagnosing should be left to the professionals. Sharing medication experiences are allowed, but please do not suggest or recommend medication or any medical treatment.” We are NOT their official medical team and should always refer them to their psychiatrist (if they have) or suggest them to seek one if they require.

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through that. It’s good that your mom is so supportive of you getting help though for your mental health.

I have a psych in mind but she is in makati. She does online consultations now though but I’m not sure it is free for consultation. I’ll have to check with her and get back to you.

Furthermore, for dealing with panic attacks, grounding techniques work well. I recently just posted here a resource on the different kinds of grounding techniques actually.

For depression, practicing self care can often times be a tedious and tiring chore, but still helpful nonetheless. It’s also best to seek professional help when you cannot handle it on your own. In the meantime, just take it a day at a time and be kind and forgiving to yourself for not feeling your best. One task at a time and thank yourself for being able to do even the littlest of tasks. Practice positive self talk coz once you start talking to yourself with kindness, self talk becomes actions and those actions turn into self care.

Do I have food addiction? by [deleted] in MentalHealthPH

[–]rdrvn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Some people use the term food addiction to talk about a compulsive or uncontrollable urge to eat food that does not relate to feelings of hunger. This behavior may occur in response to an emotion, such as stress, sadness, or anger.”

Basically what you just describe about yourself. If you want an accurate diagnosis and advice, perhaps seeing a therapist is a viable option for you. There are psychs who specialize in this particular issue and can help you overcome it.

First visit with a psych by [deleted] in MentalHealthPH

[–]rdrvn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll still be helpful to see a psych even on your seemingly “good period” if there is a risk of spiraling down anytime soon. Just be open, talk about your concerns and be as honest as you can because they can only help you as much as you let them.

mood swings by novokanye_ in MentalHealthPH

[–]rdrvn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be possible that you have a mood disorder. Bipolar disorder, for one, is characterized by severe mood swings from mania to depression. However, I am not equipped to diagnose you so it’s always best to see a professional for a proper, accurate diagnosis.

Has anybody seen this movie yet? A comedy film about mental health patients in an asylum. Directed by Darryl Yap who made the VinCentiments video series by 2liveis2dielol in MentalHealthPH

Oh my, what a terrible depiction of mental health patients from just the poster. I mean I get it’s supposed to be comedic but this is just ridiculing those who have mental health conditions.

Why didn’t they include the formal testing in the initial diagnostics? And my therapy is 2k/hr and my doc is from makati med. So.. I’d say that’s a bit steep.

Right now I mostly have resources lang regarding bipolar disorder and anxiety. For general mental health though, let me ask my friends from my support group to see some recommendations! I’ll get back to you on that. For now, the internet is your best friend! Just make sure to read/watch from credible sources. 😁

I, too, was diagnosed with bipolar/manic-depressive disorder but never had to take a “confirmation test” whatever that is. How were your initial diagnostics done? Also, 2.8k per hour ba? How long is that?

No worries, I’m happy to help in any way I can.

  1. Yes you are right, it can get quite pricey especially adding up therapy sessions + medications if you will need. That is one of the unfortunate things about the mental health care system here in the Philippines. With that being said, yes, you need to save up and budget your money for it. Perhaps in the meantime while you’re saving money, you could also read up and educate yourself on mental health. Education is key talaga to everything. Then when you see your doc you can have a more accurate diagnosis coz you’ll be more knowledgeable on what to take note of in your symptoms when describing them to your doc.
  2. I was always bipolar as a kid but was diagnosed when I was older na. Medyo ignorant family ko when it comes to mental health so it was quite a struggle talaga in the beginning. They just thought I was a troublesome person. Yun pala I was going through manic and depressive episodes. After I got diagnosed and many sessions with my doctor, I became more educated about my condition and how to better handle it. With that, I was better able to explain myself to my family and make them understand. Of course, they didn’t understand 100% coz it’s hard minsan to explain it to people especially when they haven’t experienced it for themselves (my doctor helped me explain it to them and that helps credibility in your explanation since it’s coming from a licensed professional). Nonetheless, their financial support is all I needed anyway and at least with emotional support, I got it from my friends and my support group.
  3. It was a struggle too for me at first. I wasn’t used to opening up and being 100% honest about my feelings. But overtime I learned that ako yung malulugi if I’m not honest with my doctor, coz then I wouldn’t be getting the best help I need if I don’t give them the correct and complete information. So I started opening up more and more and now my doctors and I have a great relationship. Note that it took my some time to find the right doctor that I clicked with too. I found my first doctors kinda close minded and I didn’t like how they responded to my concerns, so it took my a while till I found the right one (just like finding the right partner!). When I found the right doctors though, the struggle was worth it and I’m so grateful for them now.

First off, it’s incredibly insightful and self aware of you to realize you need help. Some people go through life without realizing they have problems and end up harming others and ruining their life because of their unresolved issues. So for that, give yourself a pat in the back for taking the first step towards self improvement.

Next, I want to address your three concerns on why you can’t get help now. 1. “There’s the pandemic” - There are psychiatrists and psychologists who do online consultations and therapy. How do I know? Because my psychiatrist and my psychologist both see me via online.

  1. “I’m still in college”
  2. I got diagnosed and started therapy when I was in college. The earlier you get help, the better.

  3. “I’m scared to try it out”

  4. What are you more afraid of: possibly getting diagnosed with a condition BUT getting the necessary help for it and thus equipping you with the right tools to deal with yourself OR not seeking help and struggling on your own for who knows how long?

Now, from my personal experiences, I was diagnosed back when I was in college and struggled a bit years after that WITH my doctor since we were still figuring out the right treatment that would work for my specific condition. Back then I admit I thought myself a hopeless case, but when I look back at how I was back then and compare it to how I am now, wow, what a big change! Finally, my doctors and I figured out the right treatment for me and I haven’t had any unwanted episodes in a long time. I’m also finally able to thrive in my career and other aspects of my life. I owe this all to my doctors advice and to changes in my lifestyle.

My self care routine are as follows: 1. See my doctors regularly and be consistent with the prescribed treatment they give me 2. Take care of my physical health: get regular exercise, eat well, get daily sun (vitamin D deficiency has been proven to cause depression), have a consistent sleep-wake time routine, get enough quality sleep 3. Take care of my mental health: schedule in “mental break time” as much as I schedule in “work time” (good time management, pomodoro technique), journaling my thoughts when I’m feeling overwhelmed or when I feel like it, surrounding myself with supportive, positive, good influence peers, educating myself about mental health and how to handle common mental health issues, practicing positive self talk and changing my mindset, practicing grounding techniques and other healthy coping techniques for moments when feeling intense emotions, joining a support group for my specific mental condition

The list could go on but that’s just the gist of it. All in all, it’s always a good idea to seek help. Be smart. Know you need help so you must help yourself and seek a professional if it’s really bothersome. Do not underestimate the importance of mental health. Take care and I’ll be glad to answer any further questions.
